Synergistic Effect of Electrical Ablation and Nanoparticle in Cancer Treatment

Although thermal ablation techniques such as radiofrequency, laser, microwave, and high-intensity focused ultrasound commonly utilize for cancer treatment, those conventional ablation techniques can cause side effects, damage to surrounding tissues, blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels. Electrical ablation can treat a tumor with strong electric fields. The generated electronic field make nano-scale pores in the cell membrane, leading to the apoptotic cell death of cancer cells. The electrical ablation can also induce an anti-tumor immune response through immunogenic cell death (ICD) mechanism. Here, we demonstrate the synergistic effect of electrical ablation and nanoparticles in cancer treatment. The nanoparticle was designed for cancer immunotherapy under image-guidance. The core-shell structure nanoparticles were synthesized and surface-modified with adjuvants to the surface.
Fe(II)/Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub>을 이용한 하수슬러지 탈수능 개선

In order to investigate the degree of sewage sludge dewaterability using Fe(II)/Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub>, STTF, SCST, water content, TS, VS, TB-EPS as carbohydrate and Protein were measured. The dosage of Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> was varied from 0.4 to 0.7 mmol/gVS and molar ratio of Fe(II)/Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> was varied from 0.5 to 0.7 mol/mol. According to the increase of the dosage of Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> and Fe(II)/Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> molar ratio, STTF and SCST increased from 1.00 to 15.00 and 4.51, respectively. Water content decreased to 82.6%. TB-EPS as carbohydrate and protein decreasing rate also increased to 37.16% and 57.34%, respectively. Especially, Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> 0.6 mmol/gVS and Fe(II)/Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> 0.6 mol/mol condition, water content dercreased to 83.1%, STTF and SCST increased to 13.64 and 4.19 which showed the cost effective improvement of dewaterability. It is considered that SO<sub>4</sub><sup>-</sup> radical generated by Fe(II)/Na<sub>2</sub>S<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> degraded EPS and converted bound water to free water.
국가무형문화재 제60호 낙죽장도 제작 기법을 활용한 문화상품 개발 연구

Cultural products produced and consumed in various ways by traditional technology are highly valued even in this era when automated design is possible with artificial intelligence. Expectations are high for the extended cultural world to be shown by meeting with highly concentrated modern technology and a wide range of products, among the range of multi-faceted cultures. The National Intangible Cultural Property No.60 Nakjukjangdo is a field that has strong characteristics of traditional crafts, and has proposed the traditional beauty of it as a cultural product in collaboration with modern designer. From this, Nakjukjangdo contains values pursued by the Korean people, which shows that it is of great formative value and academic significance. In the Nakjukjangdo, the scholars of the Joseon Dynasty had their spirituality melted, and i collaborated with the modern designer sector to turn the symbolic elements and technical features into cultural products. However, we found something to be desired while conducting the cooperative case, and suggested a plan to improve it when on the basis of production techniques developing it into a design in the future. We hope that Nakjukjangdo will be loved by the public amid the improved environment and expanded cultural content. 전통기술에 의해 다양하게 생산되고 소비되는 문화상품은 인공지능으로 자동화설계가 가능한 현 시대에서도 그 가치에 대한 평가가 높다. 다방면으로 활용 가능한 문화의 범위 중 무형문화의 공예분야가 가진 무한한 가능성이 고도로 집약된 현대 기술과 광범위한 제품과 만나 보여줄 확장된 문화세계에 대한 기대가 크다. 국가무형문화재 제60호 낙죽장도는 전통공예의 특성이 강한 분야인데, 본고는 이것이 지닌 전통적인 미를 현대적 디자인과 접목하여 문화상품으로 제안해 보았다. 이를 통해 낙죽장도는 우리나라 민족이 추구하는 가치관이 담겨 있어 조형적 가치와 학술적 의미가 크다는 걸 알 수 있었다. 곧 낙죽장도에는 선비들의 정신세계가 녹아 있는데, 이러한 상징적 요소와 기술적 특징을 현대 디자이너와 협업하여 문화상품을 만들어 보았다. 다만 협업사례를 진행하면서 아쉬운 점이 발견되어 향후 디자인으로 개발할 때에는 제작 기법을 토대로 개선 방안을 제시해 보았다. 이러한 일련의 과정을 통해 전통 낙죽장도가 디자인적으로 확장된 문화콘텐츠로서 대중들에게 널리 사랑을 받을 수 있게 되길 바란다.
Synergistic Effect of Electrical Ablation with Functional Nanoparticles in Cancer Treatment

Recently developed electrical ablation (EA) is a tumor treatment technology that induces apoptotic cell death of cancer cells by giving pulsed electronic fields to desired areas without using thermal energy. Especially, the damaged cancer cells by the EA can generate damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) to induce anti-cancer immune responses. In this study, we developed a combination therapy of EA and functional nanoparticles conjugated with immune adjuvants for improved cancer treatment efficacy. The nanoparticles were synthesized with core-shell structure and characterization by using TEM and DLS analyses. Through in vitro and in vivo experiments, it is demonstrated that the synergistic effect of EA with the functional nanoparticles significantly increase anti-cancer immune responses. Taken all together, we conclude that the combination of EA with functional nanoparticles has strong potential for various incurable cancer treatments.
초음파/과산화칼슘(US/CaO2)을 이용한 하수슬러지 가용화

초음파/과산화칼슘 처리(US/CaO2)에 따른 하수슬러지의 가용화 정도를 확인하고자 과산화칼슘의 주입량 (0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 및 0.05 g CaO2/g VSS)에 따른 처리 효율을 비교하였다. 가용화의 주요 지표인 VSS 감량화율, 가용화율, SCOD/VSS, SCOD 증가속도 및 미생물의 세포벽이 파쇄되었는지 확인하기 위하여 LB-EPS와 TB-EPS를 측정하였다. 실험결과, US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS) 조건에서 가용화율은 50.7%로 US 처리(23.4%)보다 높은 효율을 나타내었으며, VSS 감량화율도 US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS) 조건에서 17.7%, US 조건에서는 7.1%로 가용화율과 유사한 경향을 나타내었다. 조사시간 10분부터 90분까지 SCOD의 증가속도는 US/CaO2(0.02 g CaO2/g VSS) 조건에서 0.0151 min-1으로 가장 빠른 속도를 나타내었다. TB-EPS는 US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS)조건에서 59.0%, US 조건에서 36.4% 감소하였다. TB-EPS는 초기 10분동안 빠르게 감소하였으며, 이후부터 상대적으로 완만하게 줄어드는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 과산화칼슘의 주입량에 따른 TB-EPS의 감소량은 큰 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. In order to investigate the degree of sewage sludge solubilizaion using ultrasonic(US) combined with calcium peroxide(CaO2), VSS reduction rate, solubilization rate, SCOD/VSS ratio, SCOD increasing rate, LB-EPS(Loosely-Bound EPS) and TB-EPS(Tightly-bound EPS) were measured. US was compared as a control. Solubilization rate increased by 23.4% under US and increased by 50.7% under US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS). and also, at the same conditions, VSS reduction rate increased by 7.1% and 17.7%, respectively. SCOD increasing rate from 10 to 90 minutes was 0.0151 min-1 under US/CaO2(0.02 g CaO2/g VSS). TB-EPS decreased by 36.4% under US and decreased by 59.0% under US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS). TB-EPS decreased during first 10 minutes and then decreased slowly until 90 minutes. There was no significant difference in TB-EPS decrease according to the dosage of calcium peroxide.
