        The substrate removal rate in a biofilm was investigated by the measurement of substrate concentration in an inverse fluidized bed operated batchwisely. When the biofilm thickness was below 60㎛, the overall reaction rate was found as first order but it turned out to zero order at the thickness of above 60㎛. The reaction rate constant and the effective diffusivity could be calculated by using a mass balance and a diffusion model in the biofilm and a typical effective diffusivity of zero and first order reaction were calculated as 5.49×??㎠/s and 2.3×??㎠/s, respectively. In the region of zero order reaction, the effect of diffusion on the effectiveness factor increased with increasing biofilm thickness. Therefore in the zero order region, the diffusion step controlled the system while the reaction step controlled in the first order region.

        역 유동층에서 입자의 층 팽창에 관한 수학적 모델

        역 유동층에서 입자직경이 0.0965-0.219 ㎝이고 입자밀도가 0.2-0.705 g/㎤인, 물보다 가벼운 styrofoam 입자 14종류를 이용하여 층 팽창에 관한 실험을 행하여, 이를 Galileo number에 대한 terminal Reynolds number의 관계를 표현하는 2가지 종류의 model들에 적용시켰다. Expansion index, n의 경우, 실측한 결과와 2가지 model들에 의해 예측한 결과들은 유사하게 나타났고, ε=1일 때의 공탑액체속도, U_i와 terminal Reynolds number, Re_t 경우에서도 2가지 model의 결과들은 모두 실험결과에 비교적 근접하여, 층 팽창도 서로 거의 일치하였다. Model 1은 Re_t의 구분에 의해 개별적으로 사용되었으나, model 2는 Re_t의 제한없이 간결하게 적용가능하였다. Fourteen different styrofoams having diameter range from 0.0965 to 0.219 ㎝ and density range between 0.2 and 0.705 g/㎤ were used to investigate bed expansion characteristics in an inverse fluidized bed. Two models for predicting bed expansion were examined and compared with the experimental data. The expansion index, n, was little difference between the predicted values from the two models and the measured values. In the view of U_i, the predicted values of the two models were well agreed with the experimental data. Model 2 could be more concisely applied to predict the bed expansion without restriction of Re_t.

        역 유동층 생물막 반응기에서 수리학적 부하가 생물막 성상에 미치는 영향

        Stability of reactor and effect on biofilm characteristics were investigated by varying the hydraulic residence time in an inverse fluidized bed biofilm reactor(IFBBR). The SCOD removal efficiency was maintained above 90 % in the HRT range of 12hr to 2hr, but the TCOD removal efficiency was dropped down to 50 % because of biomass detachment from overgrown bioparticles. The reactor was stably operated up to the conditions of HRT of 2hr and F/M ratio of 4.5㎏COD/㎥/day, but above the range there was an abrupt increase of filamentous microorganisms. The optimum biofilm thickness and the biofilm dry density in this experiment were shown as 200 ㎛ and 0.08 g/㎤, respectively. The substrate removal rate of this system was found as 1st order because the biofilm was maintained slightly thin by the increased hydraulic loading rate.
