In automobile chassis system, the inflow of dust particle weakens durability of automobile's components increasing for wear and friction. Especially, the inflow of dust particle in rubber-seal makes noise and has a bad influence upon life-time of automobile's components. In this study friction and wear characteristics of rubber-seal for the inflow of dust patricle were investigated using the sliding wear tester. The test is a type of ball-on-disk ; ball is a steel, disk is a rubber-seal, and We use a SiO₂ particle, because SiO₂ particle is a main ingredient of dust.

The chassis system of the mobile components is weakened by the inflow of dust particles. The inflow of dust particle weakens the durability of automobile's components and also weakens the driving ability by increasing wear and friction. in the rubber-seal components among the chassis systems, the inflow of the dust particle increases the wear and friction. Therefore those make the noise and have a bad influence on the mobile system. In this study friction and wear characteristics of rubber-seal for the inflow of dust particles were investigated using the sliding wear tester. The tester is a type of ball-on-disk ; ball is a steel, disk is a rubber-seal. and We use a SiO₂ and Al₂O₃ particles, because SiO₂ particle is a main ingredient and Al₂O₃ particle is second ingredient of dust.
피스톤 스커트 표면의 트라이볼로지 거동에 미치는 표면형상과 코팅의 영향

To reduce the friction losses and the wear amounts in the piston assembly two methods were proposed. One is the modification of surface profile of the skirt part. The surface coating is another method to protect the sliding surfaces. To modify the profile of the skirt surfaces the surfaces were ground to have three different shapes of profiles. Also, several coatings, such as graphite, TiN, and MoS₂, and DLC, were used to protect the surfaces of the piston skirts. The specimens of the skirt and the cylinder bores were tested with the reciprocating wear tester. SAE 5W40 engine oil was used in boundary lubrication regime. Among several coatings the graphite and DLC coatings were very effective to reduce the friction forces. Especially, DLC film represented much better tribological performances than the others. The friction coefficient of the graphite coating was the lowest, but the graphite coating was not effective to protect the surfaces.

The most frequent trouble parts in automotive suspension system are seals and joints. Their fault is critical not in safe but in satisfaction of consumers. They are made of rubber or plastic material. The life of rubber and plastic parts is affected by not only loads but environmental conditions such as temperature, ozone, UV, contaminants and so on. In this study, the contaminants affecting wear of seal and joints was evaluated. From test in China, the contaminants absorbed in suspension system was collected. The chemical composition and particle size of them was analyzed and compared to test dust in KS standard in order to acquire the fundamental data for standardized environmental durability test of seals and joints.
