        Constructed wetlands have been increasingly used as a low-energy 'green' technique since the mid-1990s, in the treatment of wastewater, driven by rising cost of fossil fuels and increasing concern about climate change. They are man-made systems or engineered wetland that are designed, built, and operated to emulate function of natural wetlands for human desires and needs. Among various applications of these wetlands, one area that is of significant importance is the removal of nitrogenous pollutants, to protect water environment and enable effective reclamation and reuse of wastewater. This report provides a current state of constructed wetland technology, focusing on CANON(completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite) process that existing types of wetlands, the mechanisms and kinetics of nitrogen removal, wetland design to system performance.

      • 환경측정 분석기관에서의 정도관리 품질시스템 구축 및 동향

        Quality management system(QMS) made by international standard organization(ISO) for the testing and analysis bodies is increasingly required when countries trade their goods according to global trade regulations. This paper mentioned how to build the quality management system on domestic environmental measurement institutions and international trends on global environmental market. A conformity assessment system corresponded with the global standard and regulations has sharply been on the rise in all industrial fields as well as the environmental markets. Accordingly we should construct an appropriate QMS operation to promote analysis precision and spreading to all industrial sectors in order to survive on rapidly changing the current tendency of the times. Through this way, we can have global competitiveness. Especially, the settlement of a systematic and scientific quality assurance system is the key subject from the environmental analytical bodies to every societal industrial institutions.

      • 마을하수처리시설의 현장가동효율 실증시험에 관한 연구

        This study was conducted to evaluate the actual proof test on the working efficiency of the sewage treatment facility accoding to processes in rural area by the applied process to select the process fitted to the area and get effective management about the facility. The removal efficiency of the six processes investigated the actual proof test on the working efficiency of the sewage treatment facility after the plant established by items was 71.4% SS, 59.3% COD, 30.2% T-N and 12.6% T-P respectively. So, the removal rate of SS was the highest and these efficiencies was remarkable lower than the noticed information by companies. The removal efficiency by absorbing biofilter process in the six participated processes on the actual proof test on the working efficiency of the facility was analyzed more excellent than the others. Most of the sewage treatment facilities has been high efficient during first one year after the facility established. But thereafter the efficiency taken a sudden turn for the worse. Therefore, the actual proof test on the working sewage treatment facility was very important procedure. The essential problems on the maintenance of the facility were brower stopping by interruption of electric power, much inflow of a detergents and unskilledoperators etc. Hence, it is considered that the systematical control about the facility will be enforced with periodical facilities examination, regular water quality inspection and correspondence management to troubles immediately.

      • 충청남도내 호소 수질 실태

        The objective of this study is to investigate water quality of lake and to provide data for management practices of water quality measurement network in Chungcheongnam-do. 100 Samples of lakes was collected and analyzed. Variation degree of water contamination and changing trend of lake water for the samples were considered focussed on COD. The obtained results were as follows; 1. As a analytical results to water contamination, COD concentration for 28 lakes in 8 cities exceeded 8.0㎎/L so that it was evaluated these water can't help using farming water. 2. All lakes in Gongju and Cheonyang region was suitable for agricultural water as 3th class of water quality standard, 9 out of 12 lakes in Taean was short of the quality of agricultural water standard, and 3 lakes in Dangjin was serious contaminated under the regular grades. 3. There was no lake water fitted to 1 grade class of environmental standard of lake water quality in korea, only one lake suitable to 2 class, 48% for 3 class, 21% for 4 class, 16% for 5 class and 12% under the grade. So it was become that water quality of most lakes in Chungcheongnam-do was contaminated.

      • 철강산업단지 주변지역의 대기 질 변화

        It was investigated the state information for the atmospheric conditions around Dang-jin industrial complex in Chungnam area may be polluted by the constructing steel industrial complex. It is aimed at characterization of the fine particulate matter and other air pollutants involved in it. Samples were collected two sites for monitoring point representing steel industrial complex and one site which is placed a remote and secluded from this industrial complex, and the concentration of PM<sub>10</sub>, heavy metals, and ion components were analyzed. As a results, PM<sub>10</sub> average concentration was 64.6㎍/㎥ for the adjacent site before Hyundai Steel Company, 70.5㎍/㎥ in Bugok immigration settlement complex, and 56.5㎍/㎥ for Jeonggok-ri contrastive point. The distribution of heavy metals was detected as very low level for all sampling points. According to the result of statistical evaluation for the heavy metal analysis, variation range of Cu, Mn, Ca, Fe, and Mg were significant higher than others. Also, the seasonal concentration change trend of heavy metals was remarkable strong in spring and low in summer because of instable meteorological phenomena such as yellow dust happened in spring. Monthly changing pattern of a sulphate ion has kept unusually high level for summer period different other components. Relationship among PM<sub>10</sub>, heavy metal, and ion component were analyzed that high positive correlation coefficient for PM<sub>10</sub> between Fe, Mn, Pb, Ca, Mg, Cd, Al in order and PM<sub>10</sub> between NO₃<sup>-</sup>, Cl<sup>-</sup> successively. Accordingly, it is suggested that a present atmospheric conditions of the surrounding area of Dang-jin steel industrial complex is considered to be good level. Although air pollutants in emissions from their complex were below the existing emission limit, it is regarded that the systematic and continuous research is needed to preserve clean air through atmospheric monitoring, source tracing research, and citizen's surveillance for the fine particulate matter.

        HaCaT 세포주에서 Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG)가 자외선 및 LPS에 의한 iNOS mRNA 발현 및 NO 생성에 미치는 영향

        N/A Background: Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in inflammation and multiple stages of carcinogenesis. Green tea (Camellia sinensis polyphenols are potent antiinflammatory agents and have been shown to inhibit NO production in tumor cell lines. In the present study, we examined the effect of epigallocatechinp-3-gallate (EGCG), a generation of NO in HaCaT cells. Methods: HaCaT cells were treated with 10μM EGCG and 100μM NAC for 1 hour. 1 hour later, they were irradiated with 50mJ/cm^2 UVB and treated with 200 u㎍/ml LPS for 12 hours, respectively. The iNOS mRNA was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and NO production was assessed by spectrophotometric method based on Griess reaction. Nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) binding activity was determined by electophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA). Results: The results were as follows 1. EGCG inhibited UVB and LPS induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase. 2. HaCaT cells cotreated with EGCG produced significantly less iNOS mRNA and NO compared with HaCaT cells stimulated with UVB irradiation of LPS. 3. The inhibition of iNOS mRNA and NO production correlated with the suppression of expression of NF-κB dependent gene iNOS. 4. EGCG inhibited the activation and translocation of NF-κB to the nucleus Conclusion: inhibited the activation and translocation of NF-κB to the nucleus in HaCaT cells by interfering with the activation of NF-κB through a novel mechanism. Our results further suggest that EGCG may be therapeutically effective in UVB and cytokine induced cutaneous inflammation. (Korean J Dermatol 2004;42(1):37~46)

      • 유구천 유역 오염원의 최적 할당

        The aim of this study is to allocate the amount of discharging pollution loads according to the main pollutants such as population, livestock, soil, industrial facilities of Yugu basin which is a branch of Geumriver. Also, the object area was divided into 22 small subbasin sectors to assess the loading amount and applicate the water quality model. The considering items to forecast the water quality were restricted BOD, TN and TP which had affluent data relatively. And only BOD data was used to calculate unit loading amount of the basin and arrangement of optimum pollution load. As a calculating result for the amount of discharged pollution load based on the pollution sources and data, the loading amount and density of the basin became the highest after joining of Yugu and Magok. And the results of the expected loading amount indicated the increase rate of load occurrence was less than average ±1.5% per year for BOD, TN and TP. So, it was known that factors such as population, livestock and industrial transformation kept up as present. The flow running rate for the small drainage sector by the running load amount was highly analyzed TP, BOD and TN in order. And the running load amount was high in case small basin and short running length. Also, BOD contribution rate was large as near the length for the end point of the stream and high pollution influx. The running load amount was 629.85kg/d and permission load amount was 483.03kg/d at the end of Yugu basin. Therefore, it is considered that the amount is to reduce 146.82kg/d and reduction load amount by the region on establishing the sewage treatment facilities was expected 185.07kg/d for Yugu, 22.21kg/d Shinpoong, 25.91kg/d Sagok, 20.26kg/d Woosung and 255.40kg/d after total same time reduction. So, it is concluded that the arrangement of optimum load amount for reduction is proper to Yugu, Sagok, Shinpoong and Woosung orderly.
