Noise is one of the major environmental problems in human life. To reduce the noise emitted from the control valve it is necessary to develop the measurement method, measurement system, analysis method applicable to the field. In this study IEC and ISO standards were investigated and measurement method for the valve noise was proposed. Noise from the valve was measured in the reverberation room and sound power level was calculated. The sound power level increased as the flow rate and pressure difference increased. The noise characteristics are useful to predict valve noise for given conditions, to compare the performance of different valves and to develope low-noise valves.

There are many standard methods measuring the loss factor of the sheet type material. Among them three methods are introduced - vibration decay method, steady excitation method and suspending impact excitation method. Theoretical basis of them are explained in detail to help deep understanding of the methods. Loss factor of the steel sheet are estimated using three different methods and their results are compared. Standard methods are applied to prepare the specimen, test and estimate the data. It appeared that claimed-free broad band excitation method could give loss factors depending on the frequency and the most robust estimates.

The calibration of the accelerometer is the procedure to determine the sensitivity The uncertainty is a parameter used to represent the confidence of the sensitivity. The quantities which influence to the sensitivity of the accelerometer to be calibrated by the comparison method are reference accelerometer sensitivity, signal conditioner gain, measurement voltage, temperature, transverse motion, distortion and relative motion. As a parameter to represent the confidence of the sensitivity of the accelerometer, the uncertainty is used. The uncertainty of the calibration of the accelerometer to be calibrated is a function of the influence quantities mentioned above. The method of determining the uncertainties of the influence quantities and sensitivity of the accelerometer to be calibrated are explained.
