Purpose: The intraoperative version of the femoral component is usually determined by visual appraisal of the stem position relativeto the distal femoral condylar axis. However, several studies have suggested that a surgeon’s visual assessment of the stem positionhas a high probability of misinterpretation. We developed a computed tomography (CT)-based navigation system with apatient-specific instrument (PSI) capable of three-dimensional (3D) printing and investigated its accuracy and consistency incomparison to the conventional technique of visual assessment of the stem position. Materials and Methods: A CT scan of a femur sawbone model was performed, and pre-experimental planning was completed. We conducted 30 femoral neck osteotomies using the conventional technique and another 30 femoral neck osteotomies usingthe proposed technique. The femoral medullary canals were identified in both groups using a box chisel. Results: For the absolute deviation between the measured and planned values, the mean two-dimensional anteversions of theproposed and conventional techniques were 1.41° and 4.78°, while their mean 3D anteversions were 1.15° and 3.31°. The mean θ1,θ2, θ3, and d, all of which are parameters for evaluating femoral neck osteotomy, were 2.93°, 1.96°, 5.29°, and 0.48 mm for the proposedtechnique and 4.26°, 3.17°, 4.43°, and 3.15 mm for the conventional technique, respectively. Conclusion: The CT-based navigation system with PSI was more accurate and consistent than the conventional technique for assessmentof stem position. Therefore, it can be used to reduce the frequency of incorrect assessments of the stem position amongsurgeons and to help with accurate determination of stem anteversion.

This work presents an investigation of aerodynamic characteristics of cold fuel spray injected from a high pressure hollow cone swirl injector into a constant volume chamber. Laser tomography visualization was used to interrogate the fuel and air mixing characteristics and the effect of chamber pressure and temperature increase was analysed. Preliminary results on spray patternation showed that mixing effect tends to increase with the increase of chamber gas density yielding a decrease of spray penetration and a well defined vortex structure. For the present experimental conditions, fuel injection pressure and chamber gas pressure appear as the dominant factors. which govern the transient mixing characteristics.

Novel processable sulfur copolymer (poly(S-r-CEA)) was synthesized via facile inverse vulcanization of elemental sulfur with 2-carboxyethyl acrylate (CEA). This polysulfide was electrospun producing sulfur-rich nanofiber and tested for heavy metal sequestration. Adsorption experiments show very high and efficient Hg2+ adsorption. This work extends the novelty of inverse vulcanization chemistry by developing method for preparation of material based on inverse vulcanized polysulfide. Consequently, a new and cheap yet effective material was prepared for heavy metal sequestration from contaminated water. Synthesis of Li+-selective 14-crown ether (CE) having rigid and bulky subunits was reported. CE-poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) dope solutions were electrospun. CEs were immobilized on PVA matrix via acid-catalyzed acetalization using novel aerosol method. Structures of new compounds and their immobilization to PVA were confirmed and characterized. Adsorption experiments show superior lithium capacity and selectivity among previously reported solid-supported CEs. Dihydroxy-dibenzo-14-crown-4 ether-PVA nanofiber membrane showed superior performance. Various polymers were systematically screened as matrices for H2TiO3 Li+ adsorbent. H2TiO3/polymerswere electrospun as nanofibers (NF), characterized, and evaluated via response surface methodologywith central composite design for Li+ adsorption experiments. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) was determined asthe most suitable H2TiO3 support. H2TiO3/PAN hydrophilicity and its favorable NF structure providedsufficient feed interaction. The Li+ adsorption was Langmuir-type with maximum capacity = 72.75 mg g 1and adsorption rate = 1.89 10 4 g mg 1 min 1. H2TiO3/PAN is Li+-selective, with a thermodynamicallyfavorable adsorption. Stable performance and durability during cycled adsorption/desorption runs proveH2TiO3/PAN NF as highly effective composite Li+ adsorbent.

Sulfur copolymer (poly(S-r-CEA)) was synthesized via facile inverse vulcanization of elemental sulfur with 2-carboxyethyl acrylate (CEA). Polysulfide (PS) oligomer was soluble to common solvents including DMF, producing homogenous dope solution with PAN as filler. PS-PAN was electrospun resulting to nanofiber membrane effective for Hg2+ sequestration with recorded maximum capacity of 612 mg g-1 based on Langmuir model isotherm. Kinetics, selectivity and reusability were also evaluated. This work presents new and cheap yet effective material for heavy metal sequestration from contaminated water. An experimental technique for 2-dimensional quantitative measurements of NO concentrations is presented by planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF). Various interferences such as Rayleigh scattering, O₂ and C atom fluorescences are minimized by filtering and careful choosing of the excitation-detection scheme. By point-by-point background correction, broadband O2 and pressure-broadened NO fluorescences are precisely eliminated even at high pressure, so that quantitative NO concentrations are successfully calibrated in laminar premixed C₃H_8/air burner flames and the constant-volume combustion chamber. In both cases, quick increasing of NO concentration is observed adjacent to the flame front.<br/>
