The paper has two goals: one is to examine Vygotsky`s linguistic psychology from his whole theoretical framework, the other is to construct a new linguistic horizon from this examination. I think one of the most important theoretical contributions he made is the concept of sign-mediation, especially that of language-mediation in the growth process of mind which is well developed and demonstrated by main research themes in his Thought and Language(1934). Theoretical results of his experimental research on such a concept argue that linguistic competence is not determinated only by its innate structure but also by its complex developmental process synthesized with higher mental functions like thought, memory, imagination. By this is proved clearly that the contemporary cognitive theory based on the hypothetical concept of universal - innately determinated, thus static - linguistic competence and its language acquisition model must be necessarily modified by accepting such a developmental, dynamic concept. Vygotsky`s another interesting linguistic contribution is the distinction between meaning (значение) and sense (смысл) of the word; the former is relatively invariant, whereas the latter presents variable, dynamic character and permanent tendency toward a kind of open polysemy. But in so far as the predominance of sense over meaning is an undeniable empirical fact on the level of utterance, a realistic linguistic semantics must take it into a serious consideration theoretically.

In this work, we examme the notion of object. referring to its specific character in Russian. If the object, as one major syntactic function, is difficult to define universally, it is due to the fact that it shows cross-lingui stically a wide range of grammatical and semantical diversities. Thus, with a view to observing some general but concrete properties of the object. wc focus our analysis on its expression in Russian. In Russian, we can define as object the NP which shows the following syntactic behaviour: [V + NP] => [Vpaas/Vrefl.] + (NP). And the case marking of this type NP is determined by the two different processes. rirstly, it can be dctermined by its governmcnt by the verb, which is expressed mostly by the accusative but in some cases by the genitive or instrumental also. Secondly, it may be characterized by some abstract empty Quantifiers. which is expressed by the gentive of partitive or the genitive of negation. This specific character of the object in Hussian is closely tied with the fact that the Hussian verbal system has its strong tendency to transitivation 011 the lexical level but is counterbalanced fuctionally by the passivation and reflexivation on the syntactico-semantic level. And this is why. in Russian, the object assignes the semantic role of patient to its NP. From this, we may come to the conclusion: in the Accusative- Type of language, the object is a syntactic function which satisfies both the syntactic demotion condition posed by the dctransitivation and the semantic assignment of the patent role to NP.

Hongdae area in west Seoul has long been the symptomatic location for all things alternative in Korea. The place is packed with live clubs, dance clubs, artist studios and small independent cafes and restaurants. Since the mid-2000s, however, the place has been a target of rampant gentrification which virtually uprooted and re-ordered the “original” communities of alternative cultures. Some of those early Hongdae people have since relocated to adjacent areas of Yeonnam-dong and Sangsu-dong. This paper follows these ‘original’ Hongdae crowds and ‘hipsters’ who found their collective new home in the neighboring places. This paper aims at providing an account of what kind of places are being made in these neighborhoods and how. The main argument this paper makes is that, while these areas are by and large regenerated by cultural refugees from Hongdae, the emerging spaces are not exactly duplications of pre-gentrification Hongdae since gentrification produced different subjects, narratives and strategies. Whereas Hongdae was a haven for alternative culture, the new places in its vicinities are being produced as hotbeds of alternative economy
