This study was aimed to measure the acoustic impedance as a dominant factor to estimate the amount of fish resources for fisheries resource rebuilding program of jack mackerel. The fish’s acoustic impedance is one of main factors for TS measurement. The acoustic impedance needs to know sound speed contrast and density contrast of target fish. The density contrast was carried out by the Pipette method and the sound speed contrast was measured by the Time-of-flight method. To obtain sample information of jack mackerel in the experiment, 20 individuals used. Its body length and weight were measured by using an electronic scales and body length measure plate. As a result, the body length of the jack mackerel increases the weight also increases. There was low correlation with body length and density. Additionally, acoustic speed contrast tended to decrease with increased water temperature. To reduce the measured error of the TS measurement, it is necessary to apply a suitable sound speed contrast and density contrast of jack mackerel to the distributed water condition.
현수법과 모델을 이용한 조피볼락의 유영자세각과 체장에 따른 음향 후방산란강도

Rockfish was a commercially important fish specie in marine ranching areas in Korea. To estimate density and biomass of rockfish using acoustic method, target strength (TS) information is required on the species. This study measured TS dependence on tilt angle and size on 14 live rockfish individuals at 38, 70, and, 120 kHz by ex-situ measurement (tethered method) and acoustic scattering model (Krichhoff ray mode, KRM). The swimbladdered angle ranged from 18 to 30˚ (mean ± s.d. = 26 ± 4˚). The mean TS for all individuals was highest -35.9 dB of tilt angle -17˚ at 38 kHz, -35.4 dB of tilt angle -25˚ at 70 kHz, and -34.9 dB of tilt angle -22˚ at 120 kHz. The ex-situ TS-total length (TL, cm) relationships were TS<sub>38kHz</sub> = 20log<sub>10</sub>(TL) - 67.1, TS<sub>70kHz</sub> = 20log<sub>10</sub>(TL) - 68.6, and TS<sub>120kHz</sub> = 20log<sub>10</sub>(TL) - 69.9, respectively. The model TS-total length (TL, cm) relationships were TS<sub>38kHz</sub> = 20log<sub>10</sub>(TL) - 66.4, TS<sub>70kHz</sub> = 20log<sub>10</sub>(TL) - 67.0, TS<sub>120kHz</sub> = 20log<sub>10</sub>(TL) - 67.0. The two measurements between the ex-situ TS and KRM model for TS-tilt angle and fish size were found to be significantly correlated.

Encircling gill net fishery is a kind of gill net which is generally used in shallow coastal waters. After the fish have been encircled by the gill net, noise stimulus such as a stone or sound is used to force them to gill or entangle themselves in the netting surrounding them. Although the fishing by a stone is a traditional fishing method, it is considered as an illegal fishing method by physical stimulus such as explosives and mechanical vibrator. However, this illegal fishing method has raised some problems to the fishing boat of other fisheries or many anglers due to disturb aggregating fish schools. This study is aimed to provide scientific base data to verify whether to impact the ecosystem caused by this encircling gill net. This study exhibited that the impulse noise by concrete sphere in the encircling gill net was 159 dB/μPa, the ambient noise from ship engine was 160 dB/μPa, and the maximum noise from continuous artificial vibrator was 175 dB/μPa. These may be stimulus to the escape of fish distributed in a wide area in its natural state; it is not likely the cause of death due to catastrophic stress. Therefore, it needs to prepare the consideration of standard limit on fishing stimulus in fishing methods of the fishery laws and regulations, prevent fishermen form using illegal fishing gear (i.e. explosive sound standards: 200~220 dB/μPa) and provide them with countermeasures.

In this study, we confirmed that the weight of herring would increase as its length increases and the relationship between the length and density of the herring would be low. In addition, the sound-speed contrast, which is one of the important factors of the hydro-acoustic impedance, increases as water temperature increases while the sound-speed contrast decreases. In order to reduce the error of the TS measurement, it is necessary to apply a proper sonic contrast to the water temperature and behavior patterns of pacific herring. Based on the impedance results of pacific herring, it should be used as the basic data of hydro-acoustic scattering characteristics and identification of the pacific herring.
하계 광양만 주변 해역의 새우조망 어획조사 및 수산자원 음향조사

This study conducted a survey using a sampling inspection method and acoustic technique for continuous monitoring of useful organisms and non-commercial fish species distributed in the water of Gwangyang Bay, and evaluated the marine resources. In June, 2018, 38 species were caught in the shrimp beam trawl, comprising 3,594 marine organisms with a total weight was 65,415.3g. The acoustic survey showed that the nautical area scattering coefficient (NASC; ㎡/n.mile<sup>2</sup>) for the waters of Gwangyang Bay was highest in Transect 15 (1,655.5 ㎡/n.mile<sup>2</sup>) and lowest in Transect 1 (1.3 ㎡/n.mile<sup>2</sup>). The biomass was estimated to be 2,634.9 tons in the acoustic survey. This indicates that the acoustic survey method detected more fish shoals than the sampling inspection method.

This study determined the acoustic target strength (TS; dB) of black seabream Acanthopagrus schlegeli off the southern coast of Korea. For the ex-situ measurements, 200 kHz split beam transducers were used, and a Kirchhoffray mode (KRM) model acoustic model was used for the calculation. The fork length and total weight of the black seabream ranged from 6.4 to 30.8 cm and 6.4 to 683.8 g. respectively 200 kHz , the TS could beexpressed as a function of fork length as: TS<sub>max</sub>=20log<sub>10</sub>(FL)-60.35(R=0.92) and TS<sub>avg</sub>.=20log<sub>10</sub>(FL)-66.89(R=0.88). These TS results for black seabream can be used for estimating the biomass of fish in acoustic surveys in coastal areas.
