In order to develop ASTM A302 grade C type steel plate with excellent weldability,<br/> several steels with different chemistry have been manufactured and evaluated their mechanical<br/> properties and weldability. Trial A302-C steels have revealed tensile strength in the range of<br/> 61-67kg/ and elongation in the range of 27~32%, depending on chemical compositions within the ㎟<br/> ASTM specification range. In case of impact toughness, trial steels showed in the range of<br/> 58-70J at 0 . From the weldability test, the minimum preheat temperature was found to be about ℃<br/> 150 , and automatic welding condition satisfied the requirements of both ASTM specification ℃<br/> and users.

In order to develop welding materials of Cr-Mo steel plate with excellent weldability, several welding materials with different chemistry have been manufactured and evaluated their mechanical properties and weldability. SMAW and FCAW welding materials were tested for A387 Cr-Mo steel. Mechanical properties of the developed welding materials were revealed equivalent that of the other welding materials. All weld metal properties was higher than that of weldment because of the dilution between welding materials and base metals. SMAW and FCAW welding materials were developed for A387 Cr-Mo steel.

The effects of heat input and different microstructureswere investigated on the tensile-shear properties of an arc-brazed joint of theferritic stainless steel 429EM using a Cu-Si insert alloy. The brazing speed was fixed at 800 mm/min whilethe brazing current varied from 80 to l20A. For abrazing current lower than l00A, fracturing occurred at the joint root in the direction perpendicular to the tensile load. As the brazing current increased to l20A, fracturing occurred at the base metal or the joint root. The joint and the base metal had very similaryield and tensile load values. However, the amount of elongation was decreased considerably compared towhen the base metal was used. The fracturingbegan at the triple point of the root part and was classified into three types. The difference in the tensile-shear properties was closely related tothe three fracturetypes.

Composite coatings composed of ceramic powder and adhesive were studied to develop a method for repair or maintenance of facilities under particle erosion conditions. Wear resistant ceramic powders such as Al₂O₄, SiC, and WC were mixed with epoxy or urethane base adhesive. The resulting composite materials were coated on SS41 steel plate and tested to assess a particle erosion properties. Test results indicate that both the shape and size of the ceramic filler influence the erosion rate of the composite coatings. Epoxy based coatings are snowing better erosion resistance than that of the urethane based coatings. Erosion resistance of the epoxy/ceramic composite coatings is superior to that of the commercial metal paste which is used for anti-wear repair. Finally, it is careful to rank the erosion resistance of the adhesive based composite coatings.

The isothermal oxidation behaviors of plasma sprayed NiCrAlY bond coatings (Ni22Cr10Al1Y and Ni31Cr11Al 0.6Y) were evaluated. Two unique microstructures such as oxide stringers and improperly flattened zones can be observed in the atmospheric plasma sprayed bond coatings. Structure and chemical composition of oxide stringer were examined by TEM and EDS. Improperly flattened zones had a high density of open porosities. These features affected the oxidation behaviors at both transient and steady state stages. At transient'oxidation stage, NiO, Cr_2O_3 and α-Al_2O_3 were observed on the surface simultaneously. Oxide stringers and improperly flattened zones had an especially high density of NiO and Cr_2O_3, which implied that these regions had inherently lower contents of Al. During steady-state oxidation, continuous α-Al_2O_3 reduced the diffusion rate of oxygen and thus rate of isothermal oxidation became slow. As the oxidation times increased, depletion of Al, the formation of NiAl_2O_4 layer and the formation of Cr_2O_3 occurred subsequently. And the hemispherical protrusions were also detected on the surface at room temperature. These protrusions were examined carefully.
