An simplified experiment was performed to figure out the atomization characteristics of rice-bran oil which is highly viscous liquid by applying ultrasonic energy to improve the atomization of spray droplets. A spray system, an ultrasonic system, and three kinds of pintle-type nozzles(pin-edge angle: 5°, 10°, 15°)was manufactured. To investigate the effects of ultrasonic energy on the atomization of a highly viscous liquid, a phase doppler particle analyzer was used for measurement and calculation of spray droplets data. Nozzle opening pressures were chosen of 3 levels, i.e. 10. 13, and 16MPa. The improvement rate of the spray atomization by the ultrasonic spray atomization by the ultrasonic spray compared with the conventional spray was about 10% in the case of pintle type nozzles. With the increase of the nozzle opening pressure and pin-edge angle, the atomization of spray droplets was improved.<br/>

The phenomena of drag reduction to decrease the friction in turbulent flow with small quantities of a linear macromolecules has attracted the attention of many experimental and theoretical investigations. On the other hand drag reduction in two phase flow can be applied to oil transport of crude oil. phase change system such as chemical reactor, pool and boiling flow. and to present cavitation which occurs pump impellers. But the research of drag reduction in two phase flow is not sufficient The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the drag reduction by measuring pressure drop. void fraction, mean liquid velocity and turbulent intensity whether polymer additives a horizontal two phase system or not. Flow pattern of air-water two phase flow was classified by electrical conductivity probe signal. Velocities and turbulent intensities of signal were measured simultaneously with a Hot-film Anemometer.<br/>

The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the drag reduction by measuring pressure drop and void fraction with and without polymer additives a horizontal two phase system. Experimental have been conducted with a test section of 24 ㎜ in inner diameter and 1,500 ㎜ in length. The used polymer materials are two kinds of polyacrylamide[PAAM] and co-polymer[A611P]. The polymer concentration was varied with 50,100,200 ppm under same experimental conditions. Experimental results show higher drag reduction using co-polymer than using polyacrylamid.
