This paper presents field application test results of mass concrete using super retarding agent. The field test was carried out at mat foundation (thickness lm) of newly constructed information center of Chongju university and apartment house constructed with Daewon corporation. Difference of setting time of concrete between with super retarding agent and without super retarding agent is considered. Concrete without super retarding agent is placed at upper layer and with super retarding agent at lower layer. According to test results, the reducing method of hydration heat considering difference of setting time with super retarding agent can reduce the highest temperature about 3~4℃, and delay the peak time about 3~4days. Compressive strength using super retarding agent is somewhat higher than that of normal concrete. Accordingly, super retarding agent does not affect the strength development.

Mass concrete is placed considering placing lifts in order to reduce the defects of qualities like the thermal cracks caused by hydration heat. But, construction joints occurred between placing lifts which cause the loss of strength, water tightness and unfavorable appearance. Therefore, in this paper, tests are carried out using concrete containing developed super retarding agent and plain concrete respectively in order to improve the qualities of mass concrete related to placing lift. Control of hydration heat and method to avoid placing lift are investigated. Adhesion strength between placing lift of the concrete containing super retarding agent is similar to that of the concrete without placing lift. Crack index of concrete by hydration heat is reduced to be a quarter compared to that of plain concrete without placing lift, and a half compared to that of plain concrete with placing lift.

This paper presents the influences of mixing factors on the bleeding of concrete. Water to cement ratio(W/C), water content and S/a are varied with. According to test results, it shows that high W/C and water content, and low sand to aggregate ratio(S/a) increase bleeding of concrete. correlation between slump, slump flow and bleeding shows good agreement proportionally. We can not detect any correlation between air content and compressive strength, and bleeding. Accordingly, mixing adjustments to decrease W/C and water content, and increase S/a should be required in order to reduce bleeding of concrete.
