        The purpose of this study was to present development plans and to draw up measures to specialize the College of Education (COE) as a teacher training institute after analyzing the problems with which COE in confronted. The plans and measures are primarily to aim attracting many students with better qualities and to assist them to have teaching jobs under the current system of Examination for Teacher Appointment. This study involved multiple data sources obtained from literature review questinnaire survey, and personal contact with the faculty of COE, Questions in the questionnaire were addressed to ask the faculty´s opinions on a curriculum, a school system in university, a practicum for teacher training, a middle and a high school attached to COE, establishing an in-service teacher training institute in COE, and other measures related to the specialization of COE. The findings of the study indicated that the following suggestions should be realized if COE is to be developed and specialized ; 1. A special selection procedure should be applied to attract students with high qualities, 2. Education for the teaching of subject matters should be reinforced and a new curriculum be developed to meet the needs of COE, 3. Appropriate measures should be devised to carry out substantial teacher training for student teachers, 4. A curriculum committe should be formed and asked to work for the management of the curriculum suitable for the specialization of COE, 5. A multi-major or a minor system should be introduced across the student´s specialization fields, 6. A department needed in COE can be established as a major area under the school system in university, 7. The establishment of a middle and a high school attached to COE should be proposed to the Ministry of Education, 8. An educational research center should be established to investigate into issue related to pro-service and in-service education continually, 9. An institute for in-service teacher training and a community education center should be established to render services to the local community, and 10. A second building of COE should be constructed to be equipped with sufficient educational facilities.

      • 日帝時의 家族倫理 意識

        This thesis is an attempt to examine the sense of family morals in the period of the Japanese rule through analusis of the family morals in the primary and middle school textbooks of moral cultivation and to illuminate it from the contemporary point of view. 1. The members of a family were subject to the family and should do their best for continuation and development of the family. The sense of family put a great value on the family, based on exclusion on the western individualism and sacrifice of the family menbers. 2. The relationship of parents and children was regarded as relation of surbordination ; the filial duty emphasizes children's obedience to parents more than the obligations as parents. 3. The conjugal relation was based on that of domination and obedience like master and servant rather than on that of equal comradeship. 4. Since the idea of ancestor worship and family concore was emphasized based on continuation of and respect for the family, it is attended by many evils. In the sense of family morals in the period of the Japanese rule was preserved the traditional sense of family morals valued highly in Sodang and Hyanggyo of our country. Even though the school system itself was the western style, the family morals taught there was not the western modern family morals, but the purely traditional family moals.

      • 中學校 社會科敎育 目標의 變遷

        In this paper I have examined how social studies have taken shape, how the contents of educational aims on social studies for middle school have been decided, how its characteristics have been changed and what is the characteristics of social studies which are expressed in the new curriculum in Korea since its liberation from the Japanese rule. Together with this changes which were made in the educational aims of the subject, its contents and characteristics for middle school have also been reviewed from a viewpoint of its formation, its demands of the times, and the other fields relating to social studies. From the above considerations the following results can be obtained : 1. Although it is natural the ideal, spirits and aims of the times have been more or less adequately reflected in the curriculum of the social studies for middle school. But there are some problems of the aspects of level, method, form of purpose statement. 2. In the new curriculum one of distinctive features in the unification of the contents of subjects. But it is not the interdisciplinary but the unification of function and level. Accordingly those contents concerning social studies should be included and selected and organized with balance and relevance. 3. In accordance with the progress of society and changes of the times the aims and contents should be needed reestablishment of purposes and reorganization of the contents of curriculum. To do this rearrangement of the image of human being and establishment of educational aims that have been needed by the times and by the nation are important pre-condition. To meet the concrete purpose arrangement for social studies is the most important of all. 4. The education of social studies can go along with the changing society efficiently can participate in the development of nation positively and take the leading role for advance of people's ability. Therefore the education of social studies shall do its best to make human beings demanded by new times.

      • 國民精神敎育의 性格과 敎授方法的 考察

        The concept and the propriety of education for national ethics as a course of study limited to the school education are concerned, and the problems on the characteristic and the teaching method of it are discoursed upon in this thesis. The Kernel of the thesis is the discourse on these question; for what education for national spirit has to be taught as a subject in schools, and how national ethics has to be internalized in the activity of classroom insturction, and what the method of teaching according with the characteristic of education for national ethics is. In conclusion, the followings are the summary of the teaching method which fish in with the characteristic of education for national ethiscs. 1) The method of teaching is to make students cultivate the ability to criticize and justify and defend the right ous crierion selected among the criteria casing complications to students, while paying regard to student' capacity of retional judgment and making the most of it. 2) Laying stress on the student's discussion, the methold of teaching is to make students extend selfregulation of the students. 3) The method of teaching is to reach agreement and deduce conclusion according to the principle of unrestraint. 4) The method of teaching is to maek the system of conviction with a will of practice.
