A fast response CO₂ analyzer has been developed for measuring the CO₂ concentration during transient condition of SI engine. The analyzer is based on the non-dispersive infrared absorption technique, electrical chopping system and water cooling system. The analyzer has good repeatability, linearity and permissible drift characteristic. Besides, it has 18ms with a response to measure the CO₂ concentration. The fast response CO₂ analyzer was applied to single cylinder SI engine and the CO₂ emission was examined during engine start. Simultaneously, the standard exhaust gas analyzer, which has slow response time, was used for considering the engine-out CO₂ characteristic. The developed analyzer showed much faster responsive characteristic than that of a standard analyzer and made cycle by cycle exhaust gas analysis possible. The transient engine operating characteristics will be estimated and the transient behaviors on engine-out emission and performance will be improved.

Micro-particle separation has been applied to various fields such as microfluidics, microbiology, pharmacy, and chemistry for a long time. In this study, we propose a novel technique which can separate di-disperse particles of different densities in a sessile drop, by using “Coffee Stain Effect” and “Cheerios Effect”. The temperature and contact angle are the major factors which determine the evaporation mode of a drop, so that the experiments are conducted for various wettability conditions with and without heating. As a result, by analyzing the distribution of particles in a dried drop quantitatively, it is revealed that the particles can be separated efficiently at room temperature and small contact angles.

This paper describes a novel expression method of service robots according to the principles of traditional animation. Conventional issues to control robots are accuracy and speediness. Robots as machines in factories have to move fast and operate efficiently. However robots have come into human's living space as service robots, lifelike expression is emerging an important issue in a robotics field. The principles of traditional animation are useful methods to make characters living things in cartoon animations. We have tried to make robots more lifelike with animation principles. Three factors of the animation principles are applied into a robot's walking expression: anticipation, secondary action and follow-through. These principles help robots to look more lifelike by changing feelings of weight and speed, important factors of lifelike expression. According to the user test, anticipation and follow-through affect feeling of speed, and secondary action changes feeling of weight.

The transient engine operating characteristics will be estimated from the CO₂ concentration of engine-out emissions and engine operating variables.

For a friendly interaction between human and robot, emotional interchange has recently been more important. So many researchers who are investigating the emotion generation model tried to naturalize the robot's emotional state and to improve the usability of the model for the designer of the robot. And also the various emotion generation of the robot is needed to increase the believability of the robot. So in this paper we used the hybrid emotion generation architecture, and defined the generalized context input of emotion generation model for the designer to easily implement it to the robot. And we developed the personality and loyalty model based on the psychology for various emotion generation. Robot's personality is implemented with the emotional stability from Big-Five, and loyalty is made of familiarity generation, expression, and learning procedure which are based on the human-human social relationship such as balance theory and social exchange theory. We verify this emotion generation model by implementing it to the 'user calling and scheduling' scenario.
