The water-solution photo-polymerization of acrylonitrile in inorganic salt such as NaSCN, KSCN, NH₄SCN, Ba(SCN)₂, ZnCl₂ which is being used as solvent for acrylic fiber production was studied. Under irradiation of high-pressure mercury lamp(365nm), acrylonitrile was polymerized to higher conversion and molecular weight without the addition of any additional initiator(sensitizer). Overall activation energy was 1.33 ㎉/㏖.

Kinetics of solution photopolymerization of Acrylonitrile(AN) with inorganic salt for sensitizer such as, NaSCN, KSCN, Ba(SCN)?, NH?SCN, ZnCl?, Na?SeO? was studied using the UV crosslinker at various monomer concentration(1.8~7.58 mol/l), salt concentration(10~60%), reaction temperature(10~70℃), energy intensity(1000~9900μJ/㎠) under isothermal condition in the stream of nitrogen. Under irradiation of high-pressure mercury lamp(λ=365mm) AN was polymerized to high conversion and uniform average molecular weight as compared thermal polymerization with the reaction temperature of 50℃, reaction time of 3hr and 50% NaSCN without any initiator. Their kinetic model is as follows: Rp=0.0142[M]?[I]?[S]?e?

Stylene(St) with Methyl Acrylate(MA), Ethyl Acrylate(EA), and n-Butyl Acrylate(BA) were carried out with benzoylperoxide(BPO) in touene. The copolymer compositions were determined by Elemental Analyzer(EA). The monomer reactivity ratio, r1 and r2 were determined by both the Kelen-Tu¨do¨s method and Fineman-Ross method. The values of r1 and r2 for each monomer pair were as follows : r1(st)=0.57(0.68), r2(MA)=0.09(0.22). The φ factor of the copolymer over all St compositions ranged from 0.64 to 2.33 and increased with increasing St compositions. The copolymerization rates of each monomer pair were determined.

The objective of this study is to investigate the kinetics of the photoinitiated(λ=365nm)copolymerization of acrylonitrile with styrene in the presence of Lewis acid and hydrogen donors-in and homogeneous reaction system at 25℃. From these experiment and discussions, we have the results as follows. 1. The reaction of AN-St successfully competes with the quenching of BP triplet by styrene. 2. The monomer reactivity ratio of AN-St was deterimined by Kelen-Tu¨do¨s method, reactivity ratios of n(AN), r₂(St), as 0.09, 0.59 respectively and their model is as follows.
