        보령 지역의 산간 계류에서 식물플랑크톤의 계절 변화

        The seasonal changes of the phytoplankton in the mountainous streams around Boryong were investigated at the four stations from May 1995 to November 1996. A total of 146 phytoplankton species were identified, of which most of them belonged to the diatoms and the green algae. The mean standing crops of phytoplankton was high with 1,725 cells/ml in May and 1,064 cells/ml in July 1996, of which the diatom standing crops was the highest. Cymbella tumida, Melosira varians, Navicula viridula, and Synedra ulna predominated in the mountainous streams around Boryong and showed an unimodal pattern in the seasonal changes of standing crop. Our results show that a typical phytoplankton community of the mountainous streams occurs in the streams around Boryong.

        도시하천의 환경요인과 Euglena viridis 의 형태 변이 및 밀도와의 관계

        The morphological variation and density of the Euglena viridis cells and environmental factors of urban waterways of Daejoncheon, Jeonjucheon, Kwangjucheon, Kurnhogang, Mihocheon, and Musimcheon, Korea were studied from 25 December, 1995 to 5 January, 1997 in order to elucidate possible relationships among the biological and abiological factors. All E. viridis cells were same in having single star-cluster of chloroplast lobes and included two morphotypes based on other detailed morphology. The morphotype I cells agreed well with the typical form of E. viridis and commonly occurred in most of waters and bloomed with 5,386 cells ㆍ mL^(-1) in Kwangjucheon. The density of the morphotype I positively correlated with ammonium (r = 0.80) and nitrite (r = 0.68), while negatively with nitrate concentration. The morphotype II cells were characterized by having randomly scattered cytoplasmic granules beneath pellicle and unevenmargined lobes of chloroplasts. The density of the morphotype II positively correlated with nitrate (r = 0.98), while negatively correlated with ammonium and nitrite. However, the density of each morphotype was not significantly related with inorganic phosphate, temperature and pH of surface water. These results indicate that E. viridis includes two morphotypes in urban waterways in Korea, that coexist in the same period and station as a response of allocation of nitrogenous nutrients.

        전주천의 녹색 유글레나조류와 환경요인과의 상호관계

        In order to know relationships between green euglenoids and environmental factors, the species composition and density were assessed for 12 months together with environmental variables in the Jeonjucheon urban drainage, Korea. Nitrate was a high of 3.22 mg/1 in June and phosphate concentration was over 0.71 mg/1 in the winter. The euglenoids totaled 5 genera and 71 species throughout the year, increasing in the early summer (35 to 42 taxa) and decreasing in the winter (below 20 taxa). The number of green euglenoids positively correlated with surface water temperature. The total density of the green euglenoids showed a typical bimodal pattern, being maximal in the winter (5,394 cells/ml in January) and the early summer (4,823 cells/ml in June). The winter peak was a result of active growths of Euglena caudata, E. geniculata and E. viridis, however, each of which positively correlated with the phosphate. The early summer peak was attributed to Euglena deses, Lepocinclis ovum, and Phacus trypanon, each of which positively correlated with the ammonium and nitrate. The complete bimodal spectrum of species number and density of green euglenoids provides a sensitive image in detecting the changes of environmental variables in polluted waters such as Jeonjucheon.

        금강 수계에서 식물플랑크톤의 군집 구조

        The phytoplankton community of Kumgang river was investigated at the three stations from May to September, 1994. A total of 321 species was identified, which was classified into 131 genera, 20 orders, 8 classes. Green and euglenoid algae showed a maximum number of species at the Napo station in September, but there were no significant changes in different locations in the species number of blue green algae. The number of diatom species decreased from May to September at each station. Standing crop was low with 15.9×10^4individuals/ℓ in August, but high with 37.8×10^4 individuals/ℓ in September. Merismopedia spp., Oscillatoria spp., Microcystis aeruginosa and Cyclotella meneghiniana predominated in Kumgang River.

        Species composition and biomass of phytoplankton in the Boryong waters was investigated at the four stations in the year of 1994. The maximum number of the phytoplanktonic algae was 196 species in August while the minimum 169 in September. The diatom species seemed to be the most diverse group among the planktonic algae in the Boryong waters. The biomass based on the counting of cell number was in a range of 2,958 × 10 exp (4) individuals/ℓin August and 1,823 × 10 exp (4) individuals/ℓin October. Lyngbya martensis, Oscillatoria agardhii, Stigeoclonium lubricum, Cymbella affinis, and Nitzschia sp. predominated in the Boryong waters. The diverse species composition and low biomass shown in this study imply the stability and diverisity of phytoplankton community in the Boryong waters.

        한국산 담수조 Trachelomonas 속(Euglenophyceae)의 분류와 조류상

        This paper deals with floristic and taxonomic accounts of 47 taxa of the genus Trachelomonas collected from 58 waters in Korea. Of these, 19 taxa are added to the Korean Trachelomonas flora, and 4 taxa, T. curta var. reticulata, T. koreana, T. planctonica var. papillosa, and T. spina are newly recorded in the world flora of the euglenoids. Detailed description and illustrations are given for each species. Since 23 taxa are previously reported in the Korean freshwaters, a total of 70 taxa are listed up in the Korean Trachelomonas flora. Trachelomonas species are abundant and diverse in old or stagnant swamps or ponds, where is enriched with organic matters and nutrient salts. T. bacillifera, T. hispida, and T. volvocina formed water blooming in the natural swamps or fishery ponds in spring and summer.

        유글레나조류의 분류 및 생태와 환경 교육

        Euglenoids occurring in freshwaters are indicator organisms to be used for assessing water quality and applying to environmental education. One hundred sixty eight taxa of euglenoids belonging to three orders, four families and nine genera occur in various waters, especially in eutrophicated and polluted places in Korea. Members of Euglena and Strombomonas are abundant in urban drainages and old ponds, and those of Trachelomonas, Phacus, and Lepocinclis often occur in stagnant waters such as natural wetlands and old swamps. Population size of some euglenoids is significantly correlated to nitrogenous nutrients. Euglena caudata, E. deses, E. ehrenbergii, E. haemichromata, E. geniculata, E. viridis, Lepocinclis ovum, Strombomonas urceolata, Phacus trypanon, Trachelomonas hispida, and T. volvocina cells in Korea bloomed in winter and spring, when other phytoplanktonic algae greatly decrease. Blooming of euglenoids indicates tolerance to pollutants and positive selection as a result of competition with other phytoplankton species. We developed a web site on green euglenoids(Yahoo.com: Science/Biology/Botany/Phycology/Biology of Green Euglenoids), which may be used for cyber education of water environment. We also presented a method for assessing water quality using diversity and population size of euglenoids, which is considered to be suitable for environmental education of polluted waters.

        Occurrence of Dictyosphaerium pulchellum(Chlorophyceae) Bloom in a Small Pond

        충남 홍성의 작은 연못에서 수행되고 있는 식물플랑크톤 연주기의 모델링 연구 과정에서 녹조류 Dictyosphaerium pulchellum의 대발생 과정을 2000년 1월부터 2002년 1월까지 추적하였다. D. pulchellum은 연중 드물게 출연하였으나, 밀도는 3월 12일부터 증가하기 시작하여, 4월 2일에는 59,200 colony mL^-1로 대발생하였고, 4월 16에 급감하였다. 군체는 보통 8세포와 16세포로 이루어졌으나, 대발생이 진행될수록 32세포와 64세포 군체들로 대치되었고, 대발생 후기에는 대부분의 군체가 64세포였다. D. pulchellum 세포들은 대발생의 초기에는 건강하였으나, 3월 19일부터 기생생물에 감염되어 있는 군체들이 나타났으며, 4월 9일에는 대부분의 군체들이 기생생물로 감염되었다. 기생생물로 감염된 세포들은 엽록체가 파괴되었고, 피레노이드도 발달되지 않았다. 현재 진행되고 있는 D. pulchellum의 개체군과 환경요인, 경쟁 및 기생생물과의 관계에 대한 연구는 D. pulchellum의 대발생 과정에 관한 새로운 정보를 제공할 것이다. As a part of study on the microalgal dynamics in a small pond in Hongsung, Chungnam, we found a massive bloom of chlorococcalean green alga, Dictyosphaerium pulchellum during the year-round survey from January 2000 to January 2001. D. pulchellum occurred at a low frequency throughout the year. However, D. puchellum began to increase from 12 March, showed a peak of blooming with 59,200 colonies mL^-1 in 2 April, and abruptly decreased in 16 April. Colonies were 8-celled and 16-celled at early stage of blooming, 32-celled or 64-celled at the midst of blooming, and most of colonies consisted of 64 cells at the end of blooming. Colonies of D. pulchellum were healthy at the early stage of blooming, but most of colonies were infected with some parasites at the end of blooming. The infected cells bleached out with parasites, together with irradiance and nutrient limitations, appears to stop D. pulchllum bloom. This is the first report on the occurrence of blooming of a green algal genus Dictyosphaerium and its infection with parasite in Korea.

      • 금강 수서생태계의 구조와 기능에 관한 연구 : 식물 플랭크톤

        In this study species composition of plankton and biomass variation of major population at four sites was investigated from Oct. 1994 to Jul. 1995 to evaluate the water quality in Kum river. Seven classes including Cyanophyceae were observed and 2.51 species were identified in total. Plankton biomass converted in cell numbers was 0.2 - 408.8 x 105 cell ㆍ L­¹, which had a wide range of variation by the sampling time and site. Noticeably Bacillariophyceae was the dominant species. Species Diversity Indices was in the range of 0.29 - 0.60. In view of observed species, biomass, dominant species and SDI, further study on specific texa is required to discuss on the plankton in Kum river. Moreover, adequate method and consistent practice of the survey is thought to be a important condition
