Optimal design of an automotive catalytic converter for minimization of cold-start emissions is numerically performed using a micro genetic algorithm for two optimization problems: optimal geometry design of the monolith for various operating conditions and optimal axial catalyst distribution. The optimal design process considered in this study consists of three modules: analysis, optimization, and control. The analysis module is used to evaluate the objective functions with a one-dimensional single channel model and the Romberg integration method. It obtains new design variables from the control module, produces the CO cumulative emissions and the integral value of a catalyst distribution function over the monolith volume, and provides objective function values to the control module. The optimal design variables for minimizing the objective functions are determined by the optimization module using a micro genetic algorithm. The control module manages the optimal design process that mainly takes place in both the analysis and optimization modules.

The microchannel flow in miniature TCDs (thermal conductivity detectors) is investigated numerically. The solutions based on the boundary layer approximation are not very accurate in the region of the duct inlet for low Reynolds numbers. In this study, two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are considered to analyze the gas flow in a miniature TCD. Effects of channel size, inlet and boundary conditions on the heat transfer rate are examined. When the gas stream is not preheated, the distances for a miniature TCD to reach the conduction-dominant region for duct flow are found to be approximately two and three times the thermal entry length for duct flow with constant properties, respectively, leer constant wall temperature and constant wall heat flux boundary conditions. If the gas temperature at the channel inlet is close to the mean gas temperature in the conduction-dominant region, the entrance region is much shorter compared to other cases considered in this study.
금융파생상품 가격결정을 위한 병렬 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션

몬테카를로 시뮬레이션은 금융파생상품의 가격 계산을 위한 중요 방법 중 하나이다. 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션은 복잡한 파생상품의 가격을 계산할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있지만 많은 계산량을 요구하는 약점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 금융파생상품의 가격 계산을 위한 Windows 기반의 병렬처리 미들웨어 ParTS를 사용한 병렬 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션을 제안한다.
