        Brackish Lakes in Shinpo District, North Korea. I. Zooplankton

        북한 신포지구에 위치하는 3개 호수는(호만포호, 현금호, 대인호)동물플랑크톤 출현 결과와 염분도로 (현금호는 2002년 5월과 10월에 2.8ppt와 0.8ppt, 대인호는 1.5ppt와 0.5ppt) 보아 기수호임이 밝혀졌다. 3개 호수에서 출현한 34종류의 동물플랑크톤 중 요각류와 윤충류가 각각 15종과 7종 동정되었으며 34종류 중 담수종은 24종, 기수종과 해산종은 각각 6종과 4종이었다. 기수성 요각류인 Pseudodiaptomus와 Sinocalanus tenellus는 3개 호수에 모두 분포하고 있었으며 3개 호수 모두에서 기수종과 해산종의 출현양이 동물플랑크톤 출현양의 90%이상을 차지하고 있었다. 5월에 현금호에서 S. tenellus가 입방미터당 59,000개체로 대량 출현하여 이때 기수종과 해산종의 출현양은 전체 동물플랑크톤 출현양의 99%를 넘었다. 연구 지역의 기수호를 보호하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해서는 장기 조사가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. Three lakes (lake Homanpo, Hyunkum and Daein) were revealed to be brackish by the results of zooplankton fauna and salinities (2.8 ppt and 0.8 at lake Hyunkum in May and October 2002, and 1.5 and 0.5 at the Daein) in Shinpo district, North Korea. Among 34 taxa of zooplankton occurred, copepods and rotifers showed the prosperity in species number with 15 species and 7 species, respectively. Twenty four taxa of freshwater animals, six brackish ones and four marine ones were found, Brackish copepods, Pseudodiaptomus inopinus and Sinocalanus tenellus, were found in all lakes. More than 90% of zooplankton abundances consisted of brackish and marine species in three lakes. The outburst of S. tenellus was observed (59,000 indiv./$m^3$) at lake Hyunkum in May, when the proportion of brackish and marine zooplankton exceeded 99% of total zooplankton abundance. Long-term monitoring appears to be needed to provide basic data to protect brackish lakes in the study area.

        영광 와탄천의 중형동물플랑크톤 군집동태

        전라남도 영광군 와탄천 지류에 서식하는 중형동물플랑크톤의 종조성과 풍부도, 요각류의 분포 및 환경과의 관계를 조사하기 위하여 2006년 4월, 7월, 8월, 10월, 12월, 2007년 2월 6회에 걸쳐 총 8개의 정점에서 채집을 하였다. 조사 기간 동안 출현한 중형동물플랑크톤은 45개의 분류군으로 요각류는 29종, 지각류는 8종 등이 출현하였다. 우점하는 분류군 중 요각류는 2월에 13종으로 가장 많이 나타난 반면, 7월, 8월에는 4종으로 가장 적게 출현하였다. 중형동물플랑크톤의 출현개체수는 10월 (31~127,587 in-div. m-3)에 가장 높았으며, 12월 (12~233 indiv. m-3)에 가장 낮게 나타났다. 종 다양성 지수는 7월(0.671)이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 8월(0.368)이 가장 낮게 나타났다. 와탄천 지류에서 주요 우점종은 Acartia hongi로 나타났다. A. hongi는 2006년 4월, 12월, 2007년 2월에 출현하였다. 수온 약 12.0℃에서 가장 많은 개체수를 나타내었고, 주로 염분도 30.0 psu 이상인 지역에서 많이 발생하였다. 담수지역에서는 지각류인 Polyphemus pediculus, Moina weismani가 06년 8월에 대량 발생하였다. 우점 분류군이었던 요각류는 집괴분석 결과 조사시기 별로 염분의 변화에 따라서 두개 또는 세개의 무리로 구분되었다. 연구지역에서 중형동물플랑크톤은 수문의 개폐에 따른 염분의 변화와 계절적 차이에 의한 수온이 출현종 조성과 출현 개체수에서 영향을 받았다. Mesozooplankton dynamics were studied in Watan stream which flows into the Yellow Sea in Yeonggwang, Korea. Samples were collected at eight stations bimonthly during April 2006~February 2007. Mesozooplankton community was consisted of 45 taxa (8 cladocerans and 29 copepods). The abundance varied between the highest one (31~127,587 indiv. m-3) in October, and the lowest (12~233 indiv. m-3) in December. Diversity index showed to be the highest value in July (0.671) and the lowest one in August (0.368). A euryhaline species, Acartia hongi was dominant in brackish water stations (the highest abundance at 13.4℃ and 14.1 psu). In freshwater stations of the upstream, two cladoceran species of Polyphemus pediculus and Moina weismani occurred in high abundance in August. Dominant taxa of copepod were clustered to two or three groups mainly due to the difference of salinity gradients. Spatial distribution of mesozooplankton revealed to be determined by salinity gradients which were affected by opening and closing of the artificial dam in Watan stream.

      • 금강 하구둑 건설에 따른 동, 식물플랑크톤상 변화

        The objectives of the study is to clarify the change of estuary ecosystem with the construction of river-mouth dam in Kum River. Three times of field observation with two mouth interval were carried out for knowing environmental factors, i.e., water temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen contents (DO), zooplankton dynamics and phytoplankton dynamics in 2000 at three selected station in downstream of Kum River Water temperature varied between 22.1-30.1℃, pH between 7.01-9.44 and DO from 2.1 to 9.5mg/l, respectively. A total of 49 species of zooplankton species distributed in study waters. Marine copepods dominated in brackish waters of the downstream of the dam and freshwater cladoceran(Bosmina longirostris) occurred abundantly in upper waters of the dam. Phytoplankton standing crops showed the maximum of 7,735,000 cells/l in surface water of upper waters in August and the minimum of 3,298cells/l in surface water of the river-mouth in June. River-mouth dam showed to discrete sharply the upper water plankton community of freshwater species from brackish water one of down waters. The construction of river-mouth dam led the discontinuity of brackish ecosystem in the estuary of Kum River.

      • 한강 하구역의 동물플랑크톤 분포

        A total of 16 taxa of zooplankton (6 cladoceran spp., 2 copepod spp., 6 rotifer spp., 1 nematod sp. and 1 aquatic insect larvae) occurred during the survey of the ecosystem in Han River estuary in the summer 2004. Zooplankton abundances showed to be high before the rainy season in late June with more than 10,000 indiv./m³ at stations in front of Ilsan new city and Kayang bridge. Just after the rainy season in late July, zooplankton abundance never exceed 4,000 indiv./m³ possibly due to the zooplankton fauna being swept out to the Yellow Sea by heavy rainfall. Kelatella cochlearis dominated in front of Ilsan new city, Kayang bridge and Yeouido pear with more than 30% of total zooplankton abundance in late June. K. cochlearis and Phlilodina roseola dominated in late July. In tutle ship pear and Barn island, Colurella sp. and Polyarthra priodonta also dominate with 30% of abundance. No abundant population of crustacean zooplankton was observed. High values of species diversity index were observed in Kayang bridge and Yeouido pear with 2.0 and 1.8 in late June. No such high values occurred in late July. Species richness indices showed no tendency with station and rainfall effect.

        Zooplankton samples were collected for the investigation of zooplankton dynamics at ten selected stations in waters off Wolseong nuclear power plant, Korea in January, May, August and October, 2008. A total of 49taxa occurred. Copepods showed the prosperity in species number with 25species. Seasonally, 30taxa were observed in January and 34 in May, 32 in August and 30 in October, respectively. Miximum abundance of 3,385 indiv./m3 recorded and the minimum was 426 in August. Dominant taxa were copepodite, Noctiluca scintillans, Paracalanus sp. and Corycaeus affinis. Maximum mortality of 20.9% was recorded in October and the minimum was 12.8% in January. Little impact might exist on zooplankton fauna in waters off Wolseong nuclear power plant due to the maximum mortality being recorded less than 30% during the study.

      • 팔당호에 서식하는 담수산 지각류 Daphnia galeata의 유전자 특성

        Hybrid formation is popular in Daphnia spp. In August 2001, zooplakton samples were collected in Paltang Lake with Kitahara plankton net. Daphina galeata specimens were sorted based on its morphological characteristics and examined for knowing its nucleotide sequence. Nucleotide sequence of D. galeata collected in Paltang Lake was agreed well with those data referred to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), viz., with D. galeata: 97%, D. mendotae; 97%, D. cucullata; 91%, D. dentifera, D. rosea, D. thorata, D. longispina, D. hyalina, D. umbra; 90%, respectively. Due to D. mendotae being unrecorded species in Korea, our specimens which was identified as D. galeata seemed to be a hybrid between D. galeata and its neighbouring species.

      • 황해산 Euphausia pacifica (난바다곤쟁이목: 갑각강)의 생물학적 연구

        Euphausia pacifica were collected in the middle and southern part of the Yellow Sea in August 1997 (summer population) and February 1998 (winter population), Biological characteristics, e.g., body length (total: TL, carapace: CL and 6th segment lengths. SL) and body weight (dry and ash free dry weights) were measured and compared. Body length of summer population was measured to be smaller than that of winter population possibly due to the prevalence of juveniles in the summer. The result suggests that the reproduction was more intensive in the summer than winter. Relationships between body length, viz., TL and CL, TL and SL, and CL and SL, showed to be linear with high significance (P〈0.001) and constant regardless of the season. Mean dry and ash free dry weight of E. pacifica were 36㎍ and 29㎍ for summer population and 23㎍ and 13㎍ for winter one, respectively. Ash free dry weight represented 88.6% of dry weight in the summer and 75.6% in winter. This difference of 13% with season seemed to be related to environmental conditions such as water temperature and food availability, i.e., summer temperature and prey abundance enhanced the Production of E. pacifica. Every relationship between various body lengths and weights was highly significant (p〈0.001). Seasonal variation in the relationships between various lengths and weights was discussed in relation to the seasonal change of body composition, e.g., lipid contents, etc., for reproduction.

        Zooplankton samples were collected for the investigation of zooplankton dynamics at ten selected stations in waters off Ulchin nuclear power plant, Korea in January, April, August and October, 2008. A total of 34 taxa occurred. Copepods showed the prosperity in species number with 18 species. Seasonally, 17 taxa were observed in January and 24 in April, 20 in August and 21 in October, respectively. Maximum abundance of 6,631 indiv./m3 was recorded in April and the minimum was 551 in October. Dominant taxa were copepodite, copepod nauplius, Podon Polyphemoides, Paracalanus sp. and Oithona similis. Maximum mortality of 16.4% was recorded in August and the minimum was 10.3% in October. Little impact might exist on zooplankton fauna in waters off Ulchin nuclear power plant due to the maximum mortality being recorded less than 30% during the study.
