        Pre-Monsoon Dynamics of Zooplankton Community in the Downstream of the Gagok Stream, Eastward into the East Sea, Korea

        Pre-monsoon dynamics of zooplankton community were investigated in the downstream of the Gagok stream flowing into the East Sea of Korea. Monthly sampling was carried out to collect zooplankters at five sites in the stream during the period between April and July 2014. Dissolved oxygen contents exceeded 7.0 mg L-1 all the time. Water temperature was in a range of 15.7 to 24.9˚C and pH 7.4 to 8.8, respectively. A total of 75 taxa consisted of 36 species of rotifers, 16 species of cladocerans, 16 species of copepods, four kinds of aquatic insects, two kinds of decapods and one nematod was occurred. One species of marine copepod and one cladoceran, and one species of brackish rotifer and one copepod distributed at the station located in the stream mouth. Zooplankton abundance showed to vary from 42 to 4202 individuals m-3 due to the explosion of aquatic insects and Alona sp. at site 2 located in the downstream in April. Heavy rainfall during the monsoon period seems to decrease the zooplankton abundance caused by diffusion and drifting to the sea. Species diversity indices were generally high between 1.2~2.3 and were recorded to be high at the downstream throughout the study period. With the zooplankton dynamics, the influence of the input of sea waters into the stream seemed to be confined to some hundred meters of the stream mouth facing the East Sea.

        Impacts of the power plant operation located in the coastal area of Samchonpo were investgated in the view point of the population dynamics of zoo -and phytoplankton five times seasonally during the period from August 7 1990 to August 27 1991. Ninty nine taxa of phytoplankton, representing 2 forma, 1 variety, 79 species and 17 unidentified species belonging to 39 genera were tentatively identified. Phytoplankton standing crops varied with months and stations ranging from 5.8×104cells /l (November 1990, station 5) to 4.83×106cells /l (May 1991, station 4) in surface, ranging from 2.9×105cells /l (Novemver 1990, station 5) to 5.90×106cells /l (May 1991, station 4) in bottom. Dominant species through the present study were Chaetoceros compressus and C. curvisetus in August 1990, Nitzschia pungens in November, Eucampia zodiacus and Skeletonema costatum in February 1991, Leptocylindrus danicus in May, and S. costatum and S. tropicum in August. Causative organisms of red -tide due to diatoms were 24 taxa. Among them, six species occurred throughout the year ; Chaetoceros debilis, Cylindrotheca closterium, Guinardia flaccida, Nitzschia pungens, Rhizosolenia setigera and Skeletonema costatum. Chlorophyll -α was fluctuated ranging from 6.18mg /m3 (August 1990, station 1) to 23. 77mg /m3(February 1991, station 4) in surface, This value of chlorophyll -a might be assumed that eutrophication occurred in studied waters. Twenty two taxa of zooplankton communities, representing 14 copepods, 4 cladocerans, 2 chaetognaths, 1 protozoan and 1 appendicularian were identified. Zooplankton abundance varied with months and stations ranging from 1,677 indiv./m3 to 18,057 indiv./m3.

        "프로슬로기온" 3장 논증의 새로운 해석!

        In a recent paper, Wonbae Choi raises two objections to my interpretation of the argument in Proslogium 3. The first one is that my interpretation is not new, and the second one is that there is an alternative interpretation which is better than mine. I defend my interpretation against them. I also touch on a related issue which can be derived from his second objection. 최근 최원배는 "프로슬로기온"3장에 나오는 논증을 새롭게 해석했다는 필자의 주장에 비판을 가했다. 그의 비판의 요지는 크게 두 가지인데, 첫 번째 비판은 필자가 제시한 논증이 새로울 것이 없다는 것이고, 두 번째 비판은 필자가 원하는 결론을 얻고자 한다면 도리어 다른 논증이 더 낫다는 것이다. 필자는 본 논문에서 이에 대한 답변으로 필자가 제시한 논증은 분명 새로운 것이며, 최원배가 제시한 논증이 "프로슬로기온"3장에 나오는 논증에 대한 보다 나은 해석이라 할 수 없음을 보인다. 나아가 최원배의 두 번째 비판이 암시하는 보다 중요하고 의미심장한 비판에 대해서 언급한다.

        Food competition among four kinds of attached organisms ( Crassostrea sp., Styela clava, Mytilus eculis and Cirripedian sp.) in the oyster bed. Tongyong was investigated in November 2001. During 72 hour investigation, phytoplankton standing crops in control chamber decreased from 16.298.5cells/l (mean value of three chambers) to 8398.8cells/l in first 24 hours. Next 24 hours, it decreased to 5254.7cells/l, and 4891.2 cells/l, gradually. Filtering rate for each organism was 7,659cells/g dry weight/day for Crassostrea sp, 7,770cells/g dry weight/day for Styela clava and 1,558cells/g dry weight/day Cirripedian sp., respectively. No such a clear filtering rate was observed for Mytilus eculis . The conclusion is that short term experiment might be more effective than long term one for the measurement of filtering rate. experimental bag of 04-1㎛ pore size is also needed. Drastic decrease in chlorophyll-a contents and standing crops seems to be due to the artificial concentration. then spring bloom period is recommended to be an experimental period.

        Investigation on zooplankton dynamics was carried out to know seasonal variation in zooplankton fauna in waters off Yongduck, Korea, Quantitative zooplankton samples were collected seasonally in winter, spring, summer and autumn in ten selected stations in Yongduck waters. A total of 79 taxa of zooplankton occurred in waters off during the study. Copepods showed the prosperity in species number (44 species as 67.1% of total number of zooplankton taxa occurred). Seasonally, 39 taxa occurred in the winter, 33 in spring, 48 in summer and 56 in autumn, respectively. Mean abundance of ten stations was recorded to be the minimum of 966 indiv.m^-3 in th winter and the maximum of 5,428 indiv.m^-3 in summer. Dominant zooplanters were Parcalanus indicus, Oithona similis, Oikopluera dioika, Firitillaria sp. and Noctilluca scintillans. Spatial distribution showed to be the lowest in stn 1. which located hust a front of the Chucksan fisheries harbour in Yongduck. It seems to be affected by the input of contaminants excreted from the harbour. Whereas the nutrients input possibly promotes the increase of primary and secondary production in near-shore waters of the harbour.

      • 금강 하구둑 건설에 따른 동, 식물플랑크톤상 변화

        The objectives of the study is to clarify the change of estuary ecosystem with the construction of river-mouth dam in Kum River. Three times of field observation with two mouth interval were carried out for knowing environmental factors, i.e., water temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen contents (DO), zooplankton dynamics and phytoplankton dynamics in 2000 at three selected station in downstream of Kum River Water temperature varied between 22.1-30.1℃, pH between 7.01-9.44 and DO from 2.1 to 9.5mg/l, respectively. A total of 49 species of zooplankton species distributed in study waters. Marine copepods dominated in brackish waters of the downstream of the dam and freshwater cladoceran(Bosmina longirostris) occurred abundantly in upper waters of the dam. Phytoplankton standing crops showed the maximum of 7,735,000 cells/l in surface water of upper waters in August and the minimum of 3,298cells/l in surface water of the river-mouth in June. River-mouth dam showed to discrete sharply the upper water plankton community of freshwater species from brackish water one of down waters. The construction of river-mouth dam led the discontinuity of brackish ecosystem in the estuary of Kum River.
