Vol.33 No.5
In this study, a method for selection of the location and number of monitoring sensors in a building structure using artificial neural networks is proposed. The acceleration-history values obtained from the installed accelerometers are defined as the input values, and the mass and stiffness values of each story in a building structure are defined as the output values. To select the installation location and number of accelerometers, several installation scenarios are assumed, artificial neural networks are obtained, and the prediction performance is compared. The installation location and number of sensors are selected based on the prediction accuracy obtained in this study. The proposed method is verified by applying it to 6- and 10-story structure examples.

In this paper, the feasibility of a measurement technique for wind-induced acceleration level of building structures using GPS is tested. For this purpose, natural frequency and acceleration level of test model in free vibration are evaluated by comparing dynamic responses obatined from accelerometers with responses measured from GPS. Acceleration histories with sampling frequencies of GPS signals from 5 Hz to 20 Hz are used in the comparison.

In this paper, effect of sampling frequency of GPS signal on monitoring of displacements is examined through the experimentation. To guarantee measurement of the maximum lateral displacement of building structures subjected to lateral forces, sampling frequency of GPS signal is set to be fairy greater than frequency of building structure itself. Displacement histories with sampling frequencies of GPS signals from 1 Hz to 20 Hz are used to compare with the measured maximum lateral displacement of experimental model with the natural frequency of 1 Hz.

Safety and serviceability of high-rise buildings subjected to wind loads are evaluated in terms of two types of structural responses : maximum lateral displacement and acceleration can be level. A number of researchers have used GPS with relatively lower sampling frequencies to measure structural responses of high-rise buildings. In the researches, The effect of sampling frequencies of GPS on the measurement of structural responses are neglected. In this paper, the measured structural responses from conventional techniques using laser displacement meter sensor and accelerometer sensor and GPS with sampling frequency of 20Hz are compared.

In this paper, the connection details of the prefabricated RC/SRC columns and a concrete-encased U-shaped steel beam is presented, and their seismic resistance performance is evaluated through a full-scale test. One of the life-scale column specimens for the test is a prefabricated RC column built with reinforcing bars, and the other one is a prefabricated SRC column built with L-shaped angle steels and reinforcing bars. Both of the columns are fully fabricated at factory by precise shop welding, so they don’t need on-site bar arrangement and temporary supports. Although there were many other seismic resistance performance evaluation tests with the forenamed columns and beams, but most of the previous tests were mainly arranged to demonstrate the performance of the connections as the special moment frame (SMF). However, in majority of real-world cases special moment frame is generally not common due to high cost and low workability. This paper presents more practical connection details of beam-to-column connections which accord with the intermediate moment frame (IMF) conditions as defined in the Korea Building Code 2009 (KBC2009) and, also, presents the result of the test which proves the aforementioned claim by using the life-scale specimens and finite element analysis.
