Vol.11 No.4
Objectives: In this study, zirconia-incorporated polycarboxylate cement (PCC) (ZrO2/PCC) was developed to reduce the cytotoxicity and improve the mechanical properties of PCC. Methods: The ZrO2 was incorporated into a commercial PCC powder 0∼20 wt%. Its mechanical properties and dimensional stability were evaluated, and its cell biocompatibility was assessed using an MTS analysis with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). analysis with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Results: As the ZrO2 content increases, the mechanical properties strength values increase; there was a statistically significant difference in the cell survival rate (p<0.05). Conclusions: The research results have demonstrated improvements in the mechanical properties and biocompatibility stability of ZrO2 in dental porcelain ceramics.
Vol.10 No.3
Objectives: The optimal concentration ratio is studied by synthesizing beta-tricalcium phosphate(β-TCP) with commercial polycarboxylate cement with different concentration ratios, and the strength improvement of polycarboxylate cement, bioactivity assay and cytotoxicity assessments. Methods: Polycarboxylate cement was used. The produced β-TCP was calculated as a weight ratio (wt%) and 5%, 10%, and 20% were added, and then specimens for various mechanical evaluation, bioactivity, and cytotoxicity evaluation were produced. Results: As β-TCP content increased, setting time increased. And, compressive strength and Vickers hardness increased. In addition, seven days after putting it in the SBF solution, apatite was observed on the surface. Conclusions: Therefore, these results suggest that amount of β-TCP in polycarboxylate cement increased, mechanical properties improved and bioactivity increased.
Vol.20 No.6
For this study copper ions-containing bioactive glass nanoparticles commonly used in mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was developed to improve the mechanical properties and promote antibacterial effect of MTA with the original material. The mechanical properties and antibacterial activity of Cu-BGn incorporating varying amounts cooper incorporated bioactive glass nano particles(BGn) 0.5,1.0,2.0 and 4.0 wt% in MTA were characterized composition of the resulting were investigated. The compressive strength was calculated by weighing specimens with a diameter of 4 mm and a thickness of 6 mm according to ISO 6876 (2012). The antimicrobial effect was evaluated using two strains of S. mutans and E. faecalis. The mechanical properties of the test results was Cu-BGn increased no statistically significant difference was observed (p>0.05). Adhesion experiment results S. mutans in contrast to the control group Ortho MTA, 4.0 wt% of Cu-BGn added experimental group showed a significant difference was observed (p<0.05). Also, E. faecalis statistical analysis indicated a significant difference for antibacterial agents between control and Cu-BGn containing(p<0.05). It seems that this Cu-BGn proved that even a antibacterial effect was demonstrated. Therefore, it was suggest that it is necessary for in-depth research into various environments that can reproduce the oral environment.
