        The development of crash cushions is finally completed by full-scale vehicle crash tests. Since the current development of crash cushions is achieved by numerous repeated full-scale vehicle crash tests based on empirical and irrational methods, it requires a great amount of costs. In this research, the more rational procedure based on prototype design by static tests and computer simulation is suggested and it can minimize the number of full-scale vehicle crash tests.

        The design strength of panel zones, which was based on Krawinkler model, was investigated by comparing it with existing test and FEM results. The design strength overestimates of the strength of panel zones with thick column flange while it matches well with the strength of panel zones with thin column flange. More extensive studies are needed to develop a mathematical model which can properly define the inelastic behavior of panel zones with various column flange thicknesses and to determine a more rational design strength.

        IMF 시대의 통일논리와 안보논리

        The national unification and national security policy of Kim Dae Jung Administration can he distinguished from previous administrations' in such two dimensions as environmental one and policy orientation. Decision-making environment reflects recent economic crisis while new policy orientation is characterized by the "Sunshine Policy", or the "Engagement Policy". The national security agenda has usually been placed on the foremost priority in the nation's contemporary history. Recent economic crisis, however, put the security interest aside, while DJ's engagement policy raises epistemological confusion on the basis of national security and unification policy. President Kim's engagement policy has a premise that attitude and behavior of North Korean leadership could he changed to ordinary one by continuous sunshining while national security policy of ROK is still based on the belief that North Korea is the main enemy that has a goal to 'communize' South Korea. The research goal of this paper is to examine the contradictory nature of present relationship between national security policy and engagement policy toward North Korea, aiming at a systemic understanding which is to be a logical basis for the prescription to solve the problems. The first area of discussion is related with controversial issues on the unification policy. The transitional situation leads us to confront with two dimensions of problem: epistemological one as well as a matter of practice. The most serious fact in epistemological dimension is the growing tendency that people begin to regard no longer the national security as being of the prime value. This problem is more or less caused by DJ's 'Sunshine Approach' and then it has made contention between 'state centered paradigm' and 'nationalistic paradigm'. At the same time, the process of national security policy decision making and execution has revealed itself far short of 'institutionalization'. The second area of discussion deals with logic of national security policy. There can be detected a number of controversies. Such questions as "national security for whom" and "which values" are among them. In addition, on the question of "sufficiency of security", "the source of threats", and "the means for security", controversial arguments make the present policy environment getting more complicated. In this context, some policy suggestions can be summarized as follows: 1) National security and unification policy should be systemized, from the decision making to execution, and all the process needs to be integrated as well Especially, national security policy requires the common belief on national goal and national ideology, then the concept of national interest and national objective needs to be shared by all the people. 2) New presidential leadership should be activated to maintain policy coherence while to control and harmonize effectively unification -security policy establishments. 3) As the hasty expectation for the South-North reconciliation and peaceful coexistence are not realistic, the top decision makers' prudence is needed in their evaluation process for the proper level of security arrangement. 4) There should be endeavors to secure sufficient deterrence capability for the short-run, while structuring solid basis for the long-run objective of peaceful coexistence. In this process, national consensus and supports are the prerequisite for attaining desirable goals.

        북동 태평양 심해저퇴적물에 서식하는 중형저서생물의 군집조성

        북동 태평양 심해저 퇴적물에 서식하는 중형저서생물의 군집조성 및 분포양상을 보기 위하여, 다중 주상 시료 채취기(Multiple corer) 및 상자형 시료 채취기(Box corer)를 사용하여 10개 정점에서 시료를 채집하였다. 전 정점에서 18개 분류군이 출현하였다. 각 군집의 비율을 보면 Sarcomastigophora가 가장 우점하여 35.8%, 그 다음 Nematoda가 30.8%, Crustacea의 Naup1ius larvae가 그 다음으로 11.9%의 조성비율을 보였다. 또, benthic Harpacticoida, Ciliophora가 주요 생물군으로 이 5개의 주요 동물군이 전 정점의 중형저서동물 전체의 약 90%를 차지하였다. 총 개체 수는 정점 4(수섬 4960 m)에서 가장 높은 196 inds./10 $cm^2$을 보였고 정점 1(수심 4969 m)에서 가장 낮은 85 inds./10 $cm^2$을 보였다. 각 정점의 평균 개체 수는 $1.34{\times}10^5\;inds./m^2$ 이였다. 수평분포는 수심의 증가에 따라 서서히 감소하는 경향을 보였고, 수직분포는 표층 0~1 cm에서 집중적으로 분포하고 퇴적물내의 심도의 증가에 따라 서서히 감소하는 경향을 보였다. This study was carried out to investigate the faunal composition and distribution pattern of meiobenthic community in the deep sea sediments of northeastern Pacific Ocean. Faunal samples were collected at 10 stations using a multiple corer and a spade type box corer during May 1996. A total of 18 meiofaunal groups were found, and Sarcomastigophora was the most dominant group which accounted for 35.8% of total meiofaunal abundance. Nematoda (30.8%), Nauplius larvae of Crustacea (11.9%), Ciliophora (6.8%) and Harpacticoida (3.0%) which were also important components of the meiofaunal community. All of these five faunal groups comprised more than 90% of total meiofauna. The highest density of 195 ind./10 $cm^2$ was found at St. 4 (4960 m water depth), but the lowest one, 85 ind./10 $cm^2$ at St. 1 (4969 m water depth). The overall mean density of meiofauna was estimated as $1.34{\times}10^5\;ind./m^2$. The abundance of meiofauna showed a slow decreasing trend along the water depth. The highest density was observed in the upper 1 cm and density decreased drastically with increasing depth from the surface.

        변형 LIGA 공정을 통해 제작된 Microlens의 모델링 및 시뮬레이션

        In this paper, we present modeling and simulation of microlens formation by means of a deep X-ray lithography followed by a thermal treatment of a PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylate) sheet. According to this modeling, X-ray irradiation causes the decrease of molecular weight of PMMA, which in turn decreases the glass transition temperature and consequently causes a net volume increase during the thermal cycle resulting in a swollen microlens. In this modeling, the free volume theory including the relaxation process during the cooling process was considered. The simulation results indicate that the modeling in this study is able to predict the fabricated microlens shapes and the variation pattern of the maximum heights of microlens which depends on the conditions of the thermal treatment. The prediction model could be applied to optimization of microlens fabrication process and to designing a micro mold insert for micromolding processes.

        This paper proposes a wireless management system for a pet dog using wireless sensor network. The developed intelligent wireless management system is compose of a central control system, auto-feeder, mini-guidance robot, and wireless sensing devices. The developed system uses three types of sensed data such as light, temperature, and sounds from a pet dog and surrounded environment respectively. The presented design method using these data provides an efficient way to controlling and monitoring the pet dog. The implemented system can be used as a design framework of portable device for the pet management.

        사출 성형된 일회용 카오스 마이크로 믹서의 개발: 나선형 라미네이션 마이크로 믹서 (I) - 디자인 및 수치 해석 -

        The flow in a microchannel is usually characterized as a low Reynolds number (Re) so that good mixing is quite difficult to be achieved. In this regard, we developed a novel chaotic micromixer, named Serpentine Laminating Micromixer (SLM) in the present study, Part 1. In the SLM, the higher level of chaotic mixing can be achieved by combining two general chaotic mixing mechanisms: splitting/recombination and chaotic advection. The splitting and recombination (in other term, lamination) mechanism is obtained by the successive arrangement of 'F'-shape mixing units in two layers. The chaotic advection is induced by the overall three-dimensional serpentine path of the microchannel. Chaotic mixing performance of the SLM was fully characterized numerically. To compare the mixing performance, a T-type micromixer which has the same width, height and length of the SLM was also designed. The three-dimensional numerical mixing simulations show the superiority of the SLM over the T-type micromixer. From the cross-sectional simulation results of mixing patterns, the chaotic advection effect from the serpentine channel path design acts favorably to realize the ideal lamination of fluid flow as Re increases. Chaotic mixing mechanism, proposed in this study, could be easily integrated in Micro-Total-Analysis-System, Lab-on-a-Chip and so on.

        마이크로 채널 충전 과정의 유동 현상(I) - 유동 가시화 실험 -

        Micro-injection molding and microfluidic devices with the help of MEMS technologies including the LIGA process are expected to play important roles in micro-system industries, in particular the bio-application industry, in the near future. Understanding fluid flows in micro-channels is important since micro-channels are typical geometry in various microfluidic devices and mold inserts for micro-injection molding. In the present study, Part 1, an experimental investigation has been carried out to understand the detailed flow phenomena in micro-channel filling process. Three sets of micro-channels of different thickness (40um,30um and 2011m) were fabricated using SU-8 on silicon wafer substrate. And a flow visualization system was developed to observe the filling flow into the micro-channels. Experimental flow observations are extensively made to find the effects of pressure, inertia force, viscous force and surface tension. A dimensional analysis for experimental results was carried out and several relationships A dimensionless parameters are obtained.
