Here we introduce a floating on water (FoW) method for fabricating PDMS membranes on the water surface. With FoW, the membrane can be easily fabricated by a simple process of dropping and curing the PDMS solution on the surface of water. Conventional methods of making PDMS membranes include the spin coating methods and the casting method, which have the disadvantage of requiring special equipment or being skilled. FoW, however, has the advantage of being able to fabricate membranes of several micrometers in an easy process without the need for special equipment. FoW has unique features that the membrane is made on water, making it easy to handle the membrane and to make membranes of various shapes, not just flat. In this study, membranes were fabricated under various conditions and obtained membranes with a thickness of 3-7 μm. And, membranes with water droplets shape and double-layered membranes were fabricated. Due to the various advantages of FoW alone, FoW can be widely used for various applications using membranes.
