The purpose of the study was to investigate whether blood flow restriction change the peak torque and work per repetition or not. For 38 your adults, the pressurization on the outer side of thigh with suppress blood flow to the thigh at 0mmHg, 100mmHg, and 200mmHg and then isokinetic muscle strength test was conducted at 60deg/sec. During the test, peak torque and work per repetition of extensor and flexor were evaluated. The results showed that the blood flow restriction to the thigh increase peak torque but not work per repetition. The Blood Flow restriction of thigh might induce potential muscle activation more. The results imply that the restriction of thigh not only leads muscle hypertrophy through the long term training but also increase acute explosive muscular strength which can maximize the effectiveness of performance-based training. It suggests that necessity of the follow-up study about the effect of restriction of blood flow during the explosive muscle strength training in sprinting, jumping, lifting and throwing.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of blood flow restriction therapy on peak torque and work per repetition of thigh muscle. Twelve healthy male college students free of knee problems were enrolled in this study voluntarily. Muscle strength(60deg/sec of knee extension and flexion) of each participant was assessed by the isokinetic dynamometer under three conditions: (1) without blood flow restriction; (2) blood flow restriction of 100mmHg; (3) blood flow restriction of 200mmHg. The results were as follows. There were significant differences in means of peak torque of knee extension and flexion in the all comparisons(0mmHg vs 100mmHg, 100mmHg vs 200minHg, and 0mmHg vs 200mmHg). However, no significant were found in the comparisons of the work per repetition both in extension and flexion. The results indicate that blood flow restriction could help increase muscle strength.

"Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction" means resistance training in the state of limited blood flow of the limbs like "Resistance Training with Vascular Occlusion", "Ischemic Strength Training", "加壓トレニソダ", "Kaatsu Training". Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction can be combined with low-intensity training(LIT) in a short time elicit increases in muscle hypertrophy and strength efficiently, also it is possible to apply for not only elite sports but also health promotion for elders, women, physically challenged persons, astronauts, rehabilitation for athletes and rehabilitation for patients. The objectives of this study are to summarize protocols, effects and reconsider stability regards to Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction that elicit increases in muscle hypertrophy and strength as well as the possibility of field application. One of the studies of Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction for middle aged women had the result of increases in muscle hypertrophy and strength. It suggests the possibility for elders to promote their health by LIT. Some other studies of Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction for men’s rugby players showed increases in muscle strength and endurance at the same time, while the other study showed decreases in atrophy by casting in the quadriceps muscle when pressure was applied two times a day for two weeks. Although Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction have a lot of advantages, more research should be done in order to apply to field application and understanding and techniques are needed for them to be introduced in country. Further research needs to focus on clear causes, safety and understanding the long-term effects of Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction. And especially verification of safety needs to be done beforehand so that they can be applied in various fields.
