        Purpose. This study was purposed to seek for a way to enhance the self-efficacy of students in dental hygiene department at deciding their careers by analyzing the relationship between the self-efficacy and the major satisfaction. Methods. The investigator conducted a survey targeting 253 students attending on dental hygiene departments in two 3-year-graduate colleges and 1 university located in Busan from May 1st to May 30th, 2013. The used research instruments were the major satisfaction questionnaire and the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form(CDMSES-SF). The survey was conducted in self-administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed with SPSS (ver 12.0) and also conducted t-test, ANOVA and multi-regression analysis. Results. It was found that self-efficacy level of students in dental hygiene department was $3.22{\pm}0.38$ point, and their major satisfaction level was $3.27{\pm}0.47$ point. The factors enhancing the self-efficacy of students in dental hygiene department at deciding their careers were identified as the curriculum satisfaction, the relationship satisfaction, and the recognition satisfaction. It was identified that more these elements were increased, the higher the self-efficacy level was enhanced. Conclusions. In order to enhance the self-efficacy of students in dental hygiene department at deciding their careers, it is considered that the curriculum should be organized carefully under reasonable plan, and there should be more active communication between professors and students as well as students each other. Besides there needs some educational programs to inspire the pride and sense of duty for the dental hygiene department.

        치과상담업무 종사자의 감정노동과 직무스트레스의 관계

        Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the levels of emotional labor and occupational stress and their relationships in dental counselors to improve psychological health related with dental counseling. Methods : The questionnaire survey was conducted to 167 dental counselors working at dental clinics in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do from June to August, 2012. The study used emotional labor questionnaires and Korean Occupational Job Stress Scale (Basic Version, KOSS-43) as an assessment scale. All respondents were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis was performed with descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis using SAS(ver 9.2). Results : The levels of occupational stress and emotional labor in dental counselors were 47.26±8.36 and 3.45±0.47. Three subscales of emotional labor as frequency of emotional expression, attention of emotional expression norms and disharmony of emotion were related with occupational stress in dental counselors. The level of job stress was increased by the lower level of emotional expression and increased by the higher levels of emotional expression and disharmony of emotion. Conclusions : In addition to increasing the number of counselors, nurturing counseling workforce is essential to manage the job stress of dental counselors. Sufficient counseling with a patient in a comfortable counseling environment is important to reduce the job stress by emotional labor. Continuous service improvement through positive emotional service education is necessary to be implemented for counselors.

        치과병⋅의원 내원 고객의 불만족요인과 불만 대응방법에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study was to investigate factors in dissatisfaction and complaint resolution methods for those who visit dental clinics. The subjects were 20 years old or older and live in Busan. They were selected by a random sampling method and the questionnaire was distributed to the person who accepted it. Statistical analysis was used to calculate frequency and percentage to examine the general characteristics of the subjects. In addition, a Chi-square test was conducted to investigate the factors in dissatisfaction and complaint resolution methods according to gender and age groups. Factors in dissatisfaction were as follows: Men were dissatisfied with the dentist’s tone and attitude whereas women were dissatisfied with the employee’s tone and attitude (p=0.014). Dissatisfaction regarding age, traffic and room temperature were also factors. Age was an issue for those between 20-40, parking space and traffic for those between 40-60, and traffic or no elevator for those aged 60 years old or more (p=0.028). Complaint resolution method by gender and age groups were as follows: Men’s complaints were resolved by delivering a direct message to the dentist whereas women suffered patiently (p=0.001). those aged between 20-40 delivered complaints to doctors, whereas those aged between 40-60 mostly suffered patiently, but not significantly with regard to the age-specific complaint solution method (p=0.234). In order to resolve the dissatisfaction of dental patients, it is necessary to improve the expertise of the entire dental staff, including general skills, education in presentation, thorough sterilization and disinfection, diagnosis and treatment according to the patient’s condition, and how to solve problematic factors through communicating with patients.

        치주질환자의 구강보건특성과 삶의 질의 관계

        Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the chewing ability, oral-health related quality of life and factors in periodontal disease patients. Methods: Subjects were 111 patients having peridontal disease in 10 dental clinics in Busan and Gyeongsangnamdo. Questionnaire survey was carried out from July to August 2010. Questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, oral health factors, chewing ability and quality of life. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SAS(Ver 9.2) set at p<0.05. Results: Chewing ability was 44.85±8.8, and their quality of life was 41.7±8.8. Low level of quality of life was closely related to those factors as education, missing of more than 5 posterior teeth, certain subjective periodontal symptoms including swollen gums, sore gums, drifting gums, bad breath and toothache. The effective factors to the quality of life was chewing ability, bad breath and toothache. Conclusions: Chewing ability and quality of life were closely related each other. To enhance the quality of life, chewing ability should be improved. Proper treatment and effective method of management should also be properly considered to prevent the subjective periodontal symptoms and to minimize tooth loss.
