재외국민 특별전형으로 입학한 간호대학생의 임상실습 체험

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the experience of clinical practice and overall experiences of nursing university students who have entered under special overseas admissions by concentrating on the new burden of environmental adaptation and hospital clinical practice they face. Methods: This study applied van Manen’s method of analytical phenomenology. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with a total of seven nursing students from July–September 2017. Results: This study extracted six themes: ‘Days spent struggling to adapt to clinical area’, ‘Encountering language barriers’, ‘Not achieving expected benefits from bilingual language as they have not been exposed to multi-cultural nursing’, ‘Seeing themselves as lesser as they lose confidence’, ‘Needing support systems for academic performance as well as emotional status’, and ‘Finding themselves through growing up through clinical practice.’ Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is suggested to provide a network of overseas Korean nationals under a mentoring program that can be a guide to the school life of Korean nursing students abroad. Further study should include research that confirms their level of verbal and emotional difficulty and the effects of specific programs that can support them.
