Vol.102 No.-

No-hyang Kang is one of the important Korean writers who stayed in Shanghai during the period of Japanese Colonialism. He vividly described joys and sorrows of his people living away from their home by delicately drawing the life of Koreans who moved to Shanghai during the Japanese colonial era. He is one of the few Koreans who ever met Lu Xun, the greatest writer in China, while in Shanghai. Nevertheless, studies about him have not been proceeding at all. In addition to the studies of his life as a 『Kaebyeok』 sa correspondent in Shanghai, a journalist, a writer, a movie producer, and a diplomat, his works are also unknown despite the fact that he was active with his works in the 1930s. The thesis not only focused on his life, but also summarized the meeting with Lu Xun when he was a correspondent in Shanghai.

Vol.- No.36

The Korean Chinese literature is the literature of Korean who is living in China as it says. The Korean Chinese is one of few minorities in China who has their own motherland, and also its literature has a significant relationship with the motherland’s. The Korean Chinese literature is formed and based upon the motherland literature. Korean Chinese literature is a succession and development of the literature in the national independent revolution, it was not newly formed or developed independently. The North Korea Literature had had a major impact on it until the “Cultural Revolution” in 1966. It is found easily in many Korean Chinese’s writings that they had been impacted even though their relationship went to end later. The impact of North Korea’s literature could not been found any more since Sino-South Korea diplomatic relationship established. The Korean Chinese Literature developed rapidly under the influence of the South Korea Literature. The writers being used to simple title and certain structures has started creating variety titles and personalized characters. Their creativity has been upgraded by variety creativeness approach, but the socialist realism used to be the only creativeness method in a period of time. For instance, different view on the materials, research on skills, and differing the novel formation stood out in comparison of the traditional one. Unfortunately, we could not find any related studies about the impact of the South Korea literature even though many realized that it had improved their creativity and skill significantly. Therefore this dissertation is aimed at identifying how the Korean Chinese Writers left away from simple title and structure, how they have become varied in creativeness instead of realistic one since the diplomatic relations between South Korea and China has recovered. There is strong relationship between 90’ Korean Chinese Literature and South Korean Literature. It is good to communicate each other from time to time, because the Korean Chinese Writers can learn a lot during the communication, can improve the quality, and can play in the world stage instead of being limited in region area. The South Korean Literature has provided acknowledge, experience, skills of language and literature to the Korean Chinese Literature.

Vol.80 No.-

As one of the Korean writers who resided in Shanghai during the period of Japanese Colonialism, No-hyang Kang spent most of his time in Shanghai during 1930s and 1940s. No-hyang Kang's literature about Shanghai experience was created mainly based on his experience in the 1930s. In the 1930s, there were more ordinary Koreans living in Shanghai than the patriots who were planning the independence movement. They are mostly normal individuals who were busy sustaining their passive lives with no interest in politics or revolution at all. Drawing the image of Koreans in Shanghai, however, based on actual experience of the life in Shanghai during the period of Japanese Colonialism is meaningful in the history of Korean literature. No-hyang Kang's works possess a literary value as a proof of lives of Koreans living in a foreign country who lost their home country by describing the joys and sorrows of Joseon people enduring tough times in Shanghai. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how Koreans survived in Shanghai during the period of Japanese Colonialism and, through this, to inquire into the meaning of the literature of Shanghai experience by No-hyang Kang based on his works with the setting in Shanghai.
