A Study of the Effects of MSG and Saccharose on the Emergence Rates of Drosophila virilis

먹초파리(Drosophila virilis) 羽化에 미치는 MSG와 saccharose의 影響을 調査하기 위하여 4가지 系統(Sinchon_1, Sinchon-II, Choongju, Jegu)의 먹초파리 MSG와 saccharose의 7가지 濃度(0.0M, 0.1M, 0.3M, 0.5M, 0.7M, 1.0M, 1.2M)을 各各 標準飼料에 添加하여 여기에서 羽化하며 나온 個體數를 比較 檢討하였든 바 結果는 다음과 같다. 1. 먹초파리의 羽化率은 MSG와 saccharose의 濃度間에 有意的인 差異를 보이며 濃度가 增加함에 따라 迂闊率이 低下하였다. 2. MSG와 saccharose에 對한 먹초파리의 羽化率에 미치는 影響은 먹초파리의 4個 系統間에는 有意的인 差異가 없다. 3. MSG가 saccharose보다는 먹초파리의 羽化에 對해 抑制的 果가 더 큰 傾向을 보이고 있는 것으로 推理된다. The present investigation was attempted to see if MSG(monosodium glutamate) and saccharose, widely used for food additivies, affect the emergence rates of Drosophila virilis. For the present experiments, the four strains(Sinchon-I, Sinchon-II, Choongju, Jeju) were used and MSG and saccharose media were prepared by adding various concentrations of MSG and saccharose to the standard medium. The results obtained were as follows. 1) The significant difference in the emergence rates of Drosophila virilis was found with the concentrations of MSG and saccharose; the emergence rates were decreased as the concentrations of MSG and saccharose were increased. 2) The effects of MSG and saccharose on the emergence rates were not significantly different among the four strains of Drosophila virilis. 3) The effect of MSG on the emergence rates was found to be greater than that of saccharose.

In order to see if monosodium glutamate (MSG), a widely used food additive, affects the development of Drosophila virilis, an experiment was undertaken by examining the numbers of F_1 individuals emerged from the medium containing various concentrations of monosodium glutamate and sucrose. The results obtained are presented below: 1) The numbers of F_1 flies decrease as the concentration of monosodium glutamate increase. This suggests that monosodium glutamate has inhibitory effect on the development of Drosophila virilis. 2) Sucrose also shows an inhibitory effect on the development of Dosorphila virilis, but it is not so conspicuous as the effect of monosodium glutamate is.

In order to see if monosodium glutamate (MSG) affects the development (emergence rates) when treated it at the various larval stages (first instar larva, second instar larva, and third instar larva) of D. melanogaster, the emergence rates of the three strains of D. melanogaster.(Oregon-R, Sinchon-4 and Chunchun). The MSG and sacchrose media were preapred by adding them at a concentration of 0.0M, 0.1M, 0.3M,0.5M, 0.7M and 1.0M to the standard media. The following conclusions were obtained: 1) The emergence rates from the MSG media is not significantlydifferevt among the three strains but strikingly different among the concentration of MSG in each of larval stages of D. melanogaster. 2) The emergence rates decrease as the concentration of MSG increase. 3) The decrease of emergence rates is found to be rather conspicuous when treated with MSG at the first instar larval stage but not when treated it at the second and thethird instar larval stages. 4) The emergence rates are not significantly different among concentrations of saccharose, impling that no effect of saccharose on the emergence rates of D. melanogaster.

Genetic polymorphisms of apolipoprotein AI(Apo AI) and Antithrombin Ⅲ (AT Ⅲ) of plasma in Korean population were examined by means of 2-dimensional isoelectrofocusing SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and vertical polyacrylamide gel isoelectrofocusing. The results were obtained as fallows: 1. The two Apo AI phenotypes, Apo AI 1 and Apo AI 2―1 were detected in Korean population. : Apo AI 1 and its varient type, Apo AI 2―1. Apo AI 2 type was not found. 2. Only AT Ⅲ 1―1 type was found in Korean population. AT Ⅲ 2―1, 3―1 and 4―1 isoprotein were not found in Korean population. 3. The gene frequences of Apo AI alleles caculated to be 0.985 for apo AI ^*1, 0.015 for apo AI ^*2, and AT Ⅲ alleles 1.00 for AT Ⅲ ^*1 4. Based on the above results, AT Ⅲ was monomorphic and Apo AI isoprotein was polymorphic in Korean population.
사람의 혈청내 α-1 acid glycoprotein과 α-1 antitrypsin의 다형현상

Genetic polymophisms of two serum proteins, α-1 acid glycoprotein(ORM) and α-1 antitrypsin(Pi) in Korean population were studied by vertical polyacrylamide gel isoelectrofocusing. The results were as follows ; 1. ORM has two alleles, ORM*1 and ORM*2. The phenotypes were found to be ORM 1, ORM 2 and ORM 2-1 in Korean population. 2. The gene frequencies of ORM alleles in sera were calculated to be 0.8045 for ORM*1 and 0.1955 for ORM*2. 3. There were at least twenty alleles in Pi so far. But only three alleles, PiM*1, PiM*2 and PiM*3 were found in this study. 4. piM phenotypes were found to be PiM1M1, PiM1M2, PiM1M3, PiM2M2, PiM2M3 and piM3M3 in Korean population. 5. The gene frequencies of PiM alleles were calculated to be piM*1=0.7651, PiM*2=0.1737 and PiM*3=0.0612. 6. Based on the above results, ORM and pi are polymorphic traits in Korean population.

3段階(第一齡, 第二齡, 第三齡)로 나눈 노랑초파리(Drosophila melanogaster) 幼蟲을 MSG와 saccharose의 media에 飼育했을 때, MSG와 saccharose가 노랑초파리의 羽化에 미치는 影響을 硏究하기 위하여 6가지 濃度(0.0M, 0.1M, 0.3M, 0.5M, 0.7M, 1.0M)의 MSG와 saccharose media에 2系統(Samsunghyul, Chungjoo)의 노랑초파리 幼蟲을 飼育해 본 結果는 다음과 같다. (1) 羽化率에 대한 MSG의 影響은 노랑초파리의 系統間에는 有意的 差가 없다. (2) 노랑초파리의 羽化率은 MSG의 濃度間에는 有意的 差가 있으며, 濃度가 커질수록 羽化率이 低下된다. (3) 羽化率의 低下 程度는 第一齡의 幼蟲에 MSG를 處理하였을 때가 가장 예민하고 다음 第二齡 그리고 第三齡 順으로 抑制的 效果가 나타남을 볼 수 있다. (4) saccharose의 處理는 2系統間의 有意的 差異나 濃度間의 有意的 차이는 없으므로 노랑초파리의 羽化에 抑制的 效果는 없다고 볼 수 있다. The present investigation was undertaken to examine the effect of MSG and saccharose on the emergence rates of the two strains of D. melanogaster (Samsunghyul, Chungjoo). The MSG and saccharose media were prepared by adding them at a concentration of 0.0M, 0.1M, 0.3M, 0.5M, 0.7M and 1.0M to the standard media. The following conclusions were obtained: (1) The emergence rates from the MSG media are not significantly different among the two strains of D. melanogaster. (2) The emergence rates of D. melanogaster are strikingly different among the concentration of MSG;the emergence rates decrease as the concentrations of MSG increase. (4) The emergence rates are not significantly different among the two strains of D. melanogaster and concentration of saccharose. The effects of saccharose on the development of drosophilid flies show no inhibitory effects.
