The purpose of this study is measured surface acoustic wave(SAW) characteristics to confirm utilization possibility as SAW sensor using new Pb(Mg<SUB>1/3</SUB>Nb<SUB>2/3</SUB>) O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) piezoelectric substrate. We have tried to see if the material can be practically available as a new surface acoustic wave (SAW) biosensor to detect protein. The experimental results clarified that the frequency filtering of the central frequency of the PMN-PT substrate is a superior result to that of the LiTaO3 (LT) substrate, but the result was not completely satisfactory. We know there is a problem in the design of inter-digital transducer (IDT) pattern. The waves transferred through the input terminal forms SAW which is sure to be transferred to the direction of the output terminal and the backward direction of the input terminal. This reflected wave is reiterated with SAW, which is transferred to the output direction, and so the frequency filtering gives a not good result. The electromechanical coupling coefficient of the PMN-PT substrate is excellent, and we can use it as a SAW sensor, in the near future, provided that there will be a new IDT design to increase the frequency filtering.

We studied the prototypal developments of Plastic Cortex Stimulator (PCS) for stroke patients. The PC sends the stimulation parameters (amplitude, pulse width, cycle, etc.) to the transmitter ZigBee module through serial port. The receiver ZigBee module generates stimulation waveform. The generated output can be controlled by the PC program. Further study can be expanded to portable handset such as PDA using ZigBee. The wireless control of PCS with the handset can help the tele-rehabilitation.

Ubiquitous healthcare (U-healthcare) system is one of potential applications of embedded system. Conventional U-healthcare systems are used in health monitoring or chronic disease care based on measuring and transmission of various vital signs. However, future U-healthcare system can be of benefit to more people such as stroke patients which have limited activity by providing them proper medical care as well as continuous monitoring. Recently, an electric brain stimulation treatments have been found to be a better way compared to conventional ones and many are interested in using the method toward the treatment of stroke. In this study, we proposed a remote medical treatment system using ZigBee-based wireless electric brain stimulator that can help them to get a treatment without visiting their doctors. The developed remote medical treatment system connects the doctors to the brain stimulator implanted in the patients via the internet and ZigBee communication built in the brain stimulator. Also, the system receive personal information of the connected patients and cumulate the total records of electric stimulation therapy in a database. Doctors can easily access the information for better treatment planning with the help of graphical visualization tools and management software. The developed remote medical treatment system can extend their coverage to outdoors being networked with hand-held devices through ZigBee.
족관절 근육에 인가한 전기 자극의 특성에 따른 자세안정성 평가

This study is about to evaluation of postural stability according to characteristics of electrical stimulation on the ankle muscles. We measured body sway(center of pressure, COP) when various parameters of electrical stimulation was applied to ankle muscles in stable and unstable posture. Subjects consisted of 10 young adults, and electrical stimulation was delivered on right and left of tibialis anterior and Achilles tendon. The body sway was measured during electrical stimulation of three duty cycle and frequencies in stable posture and three amplitudes of sensory threshold in unstable posture. Consequently, the COP Shift is higher during electrical stimulation of 1/30(duty ratio) and 100Hz(frequency) in stable posture. In unstable posture, 100% amplitude of sensory threshold induced postural stability. These findings are important for the rehabilitation system of postural stability and the use of electrical stimulation as somatosensory information.

In this paper, we present the design of automated olfactory identification test system for mass screening, which is simple, rapid, accurate and low-cost. The automation is implemented by RFID (radio frequency identification) technology. The system consists of DI (user interface) system based on embedded computer, RFID reader system, odor samples and odor sample holder. A prototype is made according to the proposed design. The accuracy of the RFID reading is tested on the prototype. The feasibility is shown by olfactory threshold test and 16 odor identification test for 18 health subjects.
