"Pommel" is a part of the Korean bronze dagger in the Bronze Age. It works as a weight to give daggers good balance. There have been few studies about them, although pommels in Korea usually have been kept in good conditions and can provide us many information from their various forms in archaeological context. In this paper, I purposed to make a chronology of pommels. I classified pommels into several types along with the differences of the shapes and materials. Then, I found 5 stages of the transition of pommels, analyzing with typology and combinations of the other parts of the daggers: Korean pommels originally came from northeastern China at first, and then their unique forms began to develop. In the 1st and 2nd stages, the projections and the pillars were devised to be fixed pommels and the other parts well. The 3rd stage, their forms came to be more refined and smaller. The 4th stage, the materials of the pommels changed from stone to metal. The 5th stage at last, the metallic pommels came to have the various decorations. Furthermore, I examined the chronology of the Korean daggers, analyzing the combination of the dagger blades and the pommels. As the result, I have found 5 phases which corresponds to the 5 stages of the pommels previously shown. In addition, I discussed about the collation of the 5 stages of the pommels, which especially were unearthed from the houses, with the chronology of the bronze wares, potteries, the stone tools, and house plans. Then, it was found that the "1st stage" of the pommels was collated with Middle Plane Pottery Culture. Therefore, it showed us the great possibility that the pommels will take the important roll for the cross analysis of the chronology of the bronze wares and Plane Pottery Culture. 韓半島 靑銅短劍의 한 요소로 加重器로서의 기능도 가지고 있는 검파두식은 중국 동북지방에서 전해진 후 한반도에서 독자적인 발전을 이루었다. 검파두식은 그 다양한 형태, 재질의 전환, 다른 청동기와의 공반 관계 등에서 편년을 위한 여러 가지 정보를 얻을 수 있다. 본고는 검파두식의 변화 과정 파악을 주된 목적으로 삼고 재질과 형태 차이에 주목해서 검파두식을 분류하여 형식을 설정하였다. 형식학적 검토와 공반 유물의 분석을 통해 형식 변천을 정리한 결과 검파두식의 변화를 다섯 단계로 파악하였다. 즉, 한반도에서는 중국 동북지방에서 검파두식이 전래된 후 독자적인 平置 緊縛型이라는 구조가 성립되어 緊縛을 위한 方形突起와 立柱가 考案되었다(1・2段階). 형태가 세련되고 소형화(3段階)된 다음, 재질이 돌에서 금속으로 바뀌고(4段階), 마지막으로 粟粒文 등의 여러 장식이 가해지게 되었다(5段階). 파악된 검파두식 변화 단계를 바탕으로 銅劍 劍身과의 조합을 검토하여 동검 전체의 변화를 고찰하였다. 그 결과 동검의 변화를 검파두식의 단계 구분에 대응되는 다섯 시기로 설정하였다. 기왕의 編年觀과 큰 차이는 없지만 韓半島 靑銅器文化 편년에 시간 축을 새로이 제시하였다. 주거지 출토 검파두식에 대해서도 언급하여 검파두식 단계 구분 및 동검 시기 구분과 無文土器文化 編年과의 대응 관계를 정리하였다. 그 결과 검파두식 1단계와 무문토기 중기의 접점 및 검파두식 2단계와 무문토기 후기의 접점을 확인하였으며, 磨製石劍에서 보이는 검파두식 형태를 통해 동검Ⅰ기의 상한이 무문토기 전기후반일 가능성을 제시하였다. 앞으로 청동기문화와 무문토기문화와의 교차편년에 있어서 검파두식이 중요한 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
