Polymorphisms in miRNA binding sites have been shown to affect miRNA binding to target genes, resulting in differential mRNA and protein expression and susceptibility to common diseases. Our purpose was to predict SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) within miRNA binding sites of inflammatory genes in relation to gastric cancer. A complete list of SNPs in the 3'UTR regions of all inflammatory genes associated with gastric cancer was obtained from Pubmed. miRNA target prediction databases (MirSNP, Targetscan Human 6.2, PolymiRTS 3.0, miRNASNP 2.0, and Patrocles) were used to predict miRNA target sites. There were 99 SNPs with MAF>0.05 within the miRNA binding sites of 41 genes among 72 inflammation-related genes associated with gastric cancer. NF-${\kappa}B$ and JAK-STAT are the two most important signaling pathways. 47 SNPs of 25 genes with 95 miRNAs were predicted. CCL2 and IL1F5 were found to be the shared target genes of hsa-miRNA-624-3p. Bioinformatic methods could identify a set of SNPs within miRNA binding sites of inflammatory genes, and provide data and direction for subsequent functional verification research.
Numerical Investigation of a Liquid-Gas Ejector Used for Shipping Ballast Water Treatment

<P>Shipping ballast water can have significant ecological and economic impacts on aquatic ecosystems. Currently, water ejectors are widely used in marine applications for ballast water treatment owing to their high suction capability and reliability. In this communication, an improved ballast treatment system employing a liquid-gas ejector is introduced to clear the ballast water to reduce environmental risks. Commonly, the liquid-gas ejector uses ballast water as the primary fluid and chemical ozone as the secondary fluid. In this study, high-pressure water and air, instead of ballast water and ozone, are considered through extensive numerical and experimental research. The ejector is particularly studied by a steady three-dimensional multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis with commercial software ANSYS-CFX 14.5. Different turbulence models (including standardk-ε, RNGk-ε, SST, andk-ω) with different grid size and bubble size are compared extensively and the experiments are carried out to validate the numerical design and optimization. This study concludes that the RNGk-εturbulence model is the most efficient and effective for the ballast water treatment system under consideration and simple change of nozzle shape can greatly improve the ejector performance under high back pressure conditions.</P>
Investigation on thermal conductivity of dimethyl silicone oil modified by graphene nanosheets

Dimethyl silicone oil is widely used due to its excellent thermal stability and good wetting properties. In this study, a series of thermal conductive materials was prepared by physically blending and chemically loading graphene as a thermal conductive filler into dimethyl silicone oil, and their thermal conductivity and tribological properties were investigated. The thermal conductivity of the composites was tested by a thermal conductivity meter and a thermal imaging camera, while the tribological properties of the composites were evaluated using a CSM friction and wear tester. The results showed that both thermal conductivity and tribological properties were improved to a certain extent. The particle size and amount of graphene had a significant influence on the thermal conductivity. For graphene with a single particle size, the thermal conductivity increased with increasing graphene content. The friction coefficient under dry friction conditions was significantly reduced by adding graphene to the silicone oil, as revealed by the friction and wear test.

Fluorine-doping on the $Li_{1+x}Mn_{1.9-x}Al_{0.1}O_4$ spinel cathode materials is found to alter crystal shape, and enhance initial interfacial reactivity and solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation, leading to improved initial coulombic efficiency in the voltage region of 3.3-4.3 V vs. Li/$Li^+$ in the room temperature electrolyte of 1 M $LiPF_6$/EC:EMC. SEM imaging reveals that the facetting on higher surface energy plane of (101) is additionally developed at the edges of an octahedron that is predominantly grown with the most thermodynamically stable (111) plane, which enhances interfacial reactivity. Fluorine-doping also increases the amount of interfacially reactive $Mn^{3+}$ on both bulk and surface for charge neutrality. Enhanced interfacial reactivity by fluorine-doping attributes instant formation of a stable SEI layer and improved initial cyclic efficiency. The data contribute to a basic understanding of the impacts of composition on material properties and cycling behavior of spinel-based cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Phytochemical investigation of the ethanolextract of the bulbs of Lycoris caldwellii afforded fournew alkaloids, (?)-N-methoxylcarbonyl-nandigerine (1),(?)-N-methoxycarbonyl-lindcarpine (2), (?)-10-O-methylhernovineN-oxide (3), and (?)-3-hydroxy-anhydrolycorineN-oxide (4). Structural elucidation of all the compounds wereperformed by spectral methods such as 1D and 2D (1H-1HCOSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, in additionto high resolution mass spectrometry. All the alkaloids werein vitro evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against eighttumor cell lines (BEN-MEN-1, CCF-STTG1, CHG-5, SHG-44, U251, BGC-823, HepG2, and SK-OV-3). Alkaloids 1and 2 exhibited particular cytotoxic activities against astrocytomaand glioma cell lines with IC50 of 9.2–11.3 lM and10.4–12.2 lM respectively.
The Design of a Guide Device with Multi-Function to Aid Travel for Blind Person

A design method of a guide device with multi-function presented in this paper, the multi-function contents of obstacle avoidance, azimuth guidance, banknote recognition and time broadcast. The hardware system of the guide device based on single-chip system STC89C52 and peripheral added eight expansion units: power supply unit, key input unit, ultrasonic detection unit, azimuth guidance unit, banknote recognition unit, clock Unit, phonetic unit and display unit. The functions were tested and results show that the device is suitable for sunny conditions whose best setting distance range is between 700mm to 1600mm and direction function is good showing in open environment, while the function of currency recognition has some limitations because of color identification. Comprehensive consideration the device can meet the blind person’s basic travel demand and has the characteristics of low-cost and stable performance.

<P>Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) has a helical structure with either of left-handedness or right-handedness. Due to the helical structure, the selective reflection occurs depending on the chrial pitch. However, the reflectance of the CLC layer is theoretically limited to 50% because only one of right- or left-handed circularly polarized light is reflected. In this paper, we demonstrate high reflectance of CLC layer with quantum dots for the color reflector application.</P>

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is characterized by excessive apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells and hyperactive extracellular matrix (ECM) catabolism. Our previous studies revealed the relationship between human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) and NP cell apoptosis. However, the role of hIAPP aggregates in IDD has not yet been investigated. This study aimed to determine whether the accumulation of hIAPP aggregates promotes IDD progression. The aggregation of hIAPP increased in human NP tissues during IDD. The deposition of hIAPP aggravated the compression-induced IDD that promoted NP cell apoptosis and ECM degradation via IL-1β/IL-1Ra signaling in an ex vivo rat disc model. Moreover, neutralizing IL-1β augmented the protective effects of hIAPP overexpression by decreasing hIAPP aggregation in human NP cells. These results suggest that the aggregation of hIAPP promotes NP cell apoptosis and ECM degradation ex vivo and in vitro by disrupting the balance of IL-1β/IL-1Ra signaling.
