Crystallization of L-omithine-Laspamte (LOLA) by drowning out was performed for the production of the anhydrous form of LOLA. The needle-like LOLA crysols were formed and spherically agglomerated during pre cipitation in a semihatch crystallizer. The primary crystal size in the agglomerate remains unchanged after completion of the crystallization. Therefore, the agglomeration process of primary crystals played an important role for controlling LOLA crystal size. The agglomeration of LOLA crystals was governed by not only the physico-chemical parameters such as the temperature and feed concentration, hut also the hydrodynamic parameters such as agitation speed and feeding rate. The crystal size and the shape have been shown to he important factors in product impurity and flowability. Thus, the optimum condition of LOLA crystallization process by drowning-out could he obtained.

Multipotent adult stem cells (MASCs) derived from Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) have found widespread use in various applications, including regenerative therapy and drug screening. For these applications, highly pluripotent stem cells need to be selectively separated from those that show low pluripotency, and adult stem cells need to be collected for further application. Although fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS) and magnetic activated cell sorting (MACS) are commonly used, these methods suffer from limitations namely low throughput efficiency and low purity, respectively. In this study, we developed immunomagnetic microfluidic integrated system (IM-MIS) for separation of stem cells depending on potency level. A mixture of PSCs and MSCs were used to demonstrate separation efficacy of IM-MIS. Compared to FACS, IM-MIS was found to be more efficient and rapid method with better throughput capabilities. Moreover, separation using IM-MIS was more accurate than that done using MACS. Furthermore, IM-MIS did not affect the key characteristics of stem cells including its potency, phenotype, genotype, and karyotype. IM-MIS may offer a new platform for the development of multi-separation systems for diverse stem cell applications.

Crystallization of L-omithine-L-aspartate (LOLA) by drowning out was investigated using methanol as an antisolvent for the production of the anhydrous from of LOLA. spherical agglomerates of LOLA crystal were prepared by precipitation in a semibatch crystallizer. It was found that the size of LOLA agglomerates was influenced by the experimental conditions such as the size of LOLA from 40 μm to 180μm was observed by increasing temperature and decreasing agitation speed and feeding rate.

L-Ornithine-L-Aspartate (LOLA), a pharmaceutical, has two crystal forms: a hydrate and an anhydrous form. The influence of the feeding rate, solvent concentration and temperature on the form of crystal was investigated in drowning-out crystallization that was carried out by two semi-batch methods. In this study, we attempted to unify results for the formation of polymorphs and LOLA with the desired anhydrous form was produced with controlling temperature and methanol concentration.
Facile Preparation of Pyrene-templated Hexagonal-shaped Gold Nanoplates
Lim, Eun-Kyung,Jang, Eunji,Haam, Seungjoo,Huh, Yong-Min The Korean Vacuum Society 2014 Applied Science and Convergence Technology Vol.23 No.1
We have formulated hexagonal-shaped gold nanoplates in a single-step for photothermal therapy that gold ions to gold particles using pyrenyl dextran as reducible stabilizer and template. They exhibit anisotropic structure with broad surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band into near-infrared (NIR) spectrum enabling photothermal therapy. These gold nanoplates are also confirmed biocompatibility and high uptake efficiency due to binding with dextran molecules on the surface of gold nanoplates and cells. From in vitro phtothermal ablation study under NIR laser, gold nanoplates have the potential to use as photothermal agents.
Synthesis and characterization of mesoporous Fe/SiO2 for magnetic drug targeting
Kim, Hyun-Jong,Ahn, Ji-Eun,Haam, Seungjoo,Shul, Yong-Gun,Song, Si-Young,Tatsumi, Takashi Royal Society of Chemistry 2006 Journal of materials chemistry Vol.16 No.17
<P>Mesoporous Fe/SiO2 was synthesized as a carrier for magnetic drug targeting by using the sol–gel route and a chemical reduction method. It was confirmed that metallic iron clusters were formed and retained in the channels of the mesoporous silica by XRD and N2 adsorption. The magnetic properties and stability of mesoporous Fe/SiO2 were characterized by vibrating sample magnetometry and XPS. The oxidation of metallic iron and subsequent reduction of magnetic properties were retarded by the mesoporous silica framework and the surface-formed non-magnetic iron oxide layer. The release of ibuprofen from the mesoporous Fe/SiO2 was described as a diffusion-controlled process (Higuchi relationship). It showed two-step release composed of an initial burst and a slow steady release for 700 hours. This was due to the physical and chemical entrapping of drug in the mesoporous Fe/SiO2 particles. The release rate could be also controlled by surface modification of drug-loaded mesoporous Fe/SiO2 with a biologically compatible polymer such as PCL.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Mesoporous Fe/SiO2 was synthesized as a carrier for magnetic drug targeting and its drug-release behavior could be controlled by surface coating with a biologically compatible polymer. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b514433g'> </P>
