      • Design of a Pipelined and Interleaved Two-Dimensional FIR Filter

Sung, Won Yong,Lee, Jong Bok,Yeo, Hun Gu 대한전자공학회 1991 ICVC : International Conference on VLSI and CAD Vol.2 No.1

A VLSI for two-dimensional linear-phase FIR filtering of video signals has been designed using pipelining and interleaving techniques. The filter needs only four pipelined multipliers for 7 by 7 two-dimensional FIR filtering due to the employment of interleaving scheme. A phase locked loop (PLL) circuit is used to generate an internal clock which has a synchronized four-times frequency of the input sampling clock. To reduce the I/O bandwidth requirement, an on-chip line-delay unit is implemented using three-transistor DRAM cells. This filter chip has been designed to operate at 25 MHz using a 2 um CMOS process, and will be redesigned and implemented to operate at 50 MHz using a 0.8 ㎛ CMOS process.

      • Pathologic Complete Response of Primary Tumor Following Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer: Long-term Outcomes and Prognostic Significance of Pathologic Nodal Status (KROG 09-01)

        Yeo, Seung-Gu,Kim, Dae Yong,Kim, Tae Hyun,Chang, Hee Jin,Oh, Jae Hwan,Park, Won,Choi, Doo Ho,Nam, Heerim,Kim, Jun-Sang,Cho, Moon-June,Kim, Jong Hoon,Park, Jin-hong,Kang, Min Kyu,Koom, Woong Sub,Kim, J Lippincott Williams Wilkins, Inc. 2010 Annals of surgery Vol.252 No.6

OBJECTIVE:: To investigate long-term outcomes of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients with postchemoradiotherapy (post-CRT) pathologic complete response of primary tumor (ypT0) and determine prognostic significance of post-CRT pathologic nodal (ypN) status. BACKGROUND:: LARC patients with post-CRT pathologic complete response were suggested to have favorable long-term outcomes, but prognostic significance of ypN status has never been specifically defined in ypT0 patients. METHODS:: The Korean Radiation Oncology Group collected clinical data for 333 LARC patients with ypT0 following preoperative CRT and curative radical resections between 1993 and 2007. Sphincter preservation surgery and abdominoperineal resection were performed in 283 (85.0%) and 50 (15.0%) patients, respectively. Postoperative chemotherapy was given to 285 (85.6%) patients. Survival was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method, and the Cox proportional hazard model was used in multivariate analyses. RESULTS:: After median follow-up of 43 (range = 14–172) months, 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) was 84.6% and overall survival (OS) was 92.8%. The ypN status was ypT0N0 in 304 (91.3%), ypT0N1 in 22 (6.6%), and ypT0N2 in 7 (2.1%) patients. The ypN status was the most relevant independent prognostic factor for both DFS and OS in ypT0 patients. The 5-year DFS and OS was 88.5% and 94.8% in ypT0N0 patients, and 45.2% and 72.8% in ypT0N+ patients (both, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS:: LARC patients achieving ypT0N0 after preoperative CRT had favorable long-term outcomes, whereas positive ypN status had a poor prognosis even after total regression of primary tumor.

Wood Species Classification Utilizing Ensembles of Convolutional Neural Networks Established by Near-Infrared Spectra and Images Acquired from Korean Softwood Lumber

        ( Sang-Yun Yang ),( Hyung Gu Lee ),( Yonggun Park ),( Hyunwoo Chung ),( Hyunbin Kim ),( Se-Yeong Park ),( In-Gyu Choi ),( Ohkyung Kwon ),( Hwanmyeong Yeo ) 한국목재공학회 2019 목재공학 Vol.47 No.4

In our previous study, we investigated the use of ensemble models based on LeNet and MiniVGGNet to classify the images of transverse and longitudinal surfaces of five Korean softwoods (cedar, cypress, Korean pine, Korean red pine, and larch). It had accomplished an average F1 score of more than 98%; the classification performance of the longitudinal surface image was still less than that of the transverse surface image. In this study, ensemble methods of two different convolutional neural network models (LeNet3 for smartphone camera images and NIRNet for NIR spectra) were applied to lumber species classification. Experimentally, the best classification performance was obtained by the averaging ensemble method of LeNet3 and NIRNet. The average F1 scores of the individual LeNet3 model and the individual NIRNet model were 91.98% and 85.94%, respectively. By the averaging ensemble method of LeNet3 and NIRNet, an average F1 score was increased to 95.31%.

      • Whole-liver radiotherapy for end-stage colorectal cancer patients with massive liver metastases and advanced hepatic dysfunction

Yeo, Seung-Gu,Kim, Dae Yong,Kim, Tae Hyun,Kim, Sun Young,Hong, Yong Sang,Jung, Kyung Hae BioMed Central 2010 Radiation oncology Vol.5 No.-

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>To investigate whether whole-liver radiotherapy (RT) is beneficial in end-stage colorectal cancer with massive liver metastases and severe hepatic dysfunction.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Between June 2004 and July 2008, 10 colorectal cancer patients, who exhibited a replacement of over three quarters of their normal liver by metastatic tumors and were of Child-Pugh class B or C in liver function with progressive disease after undergoing chemotherapy, underwent whole-liver RT. RT was administered using computed tomography-based three-dimensional planning and the median dose was 21 Gy (range, 21-30) in seven fractions. Improvement in liver function tests, defined as a decrease in the levels within 1 month after RT, symptom palliation, toxicity, and overall survival were analyzed retrospectively.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Levels of alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, aspartate transaminase, and alanine transaminase improved in 8, 6, 9, and all 10 patients, respectively, and the median reduction rates were 42%, 68%, 50%, and 57%, respectively. Serum carcinoembryonic antigen level decreased after RT in three of four assessable patients. For all patients, pain levels decreased and acute toxicity consisted of nausea/vomiting of grade ≤ 2. Further chemotherapy became possible in four of 10 patients. Mean survival after RT was 80 ± 80 days (range, 20-289); mean survival for four patients who received post-RT chemotherapy was 143 ± 100 days (range, 65-289), versus 38 ± 16 days (range, 20-64) for the six patients who did not receive post-RT chemotherapy (<I>p </I>= 0.127).</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Although limited by small case number, this study demonstrated a possible role of whole-liver RT in improving hepatic dysfunction and delaying mortality from hepatic failure for end-stage colorectal cancer patients with massive liver metastases. Further studies should be followed to confirm these findings.</P>

Ginsenoside fractions regulate the action of monocytes and their differentiation into dendritic cells

        Yeo Jin Lee,Young Min Son,Min Jeong Gu,Ki-Duk Song,Sung-Moo Park,Hyo Jin Song,Jae Sung Kang,Jong Soo Woo,Jee Hyung Jung,Deok-Chun Yang,Seung Hyun Han,Cheol-Heui Yun 고려인삼학회 2015 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.39 No.1

Background: Panax ginseng (i.e., ginseng) root is extensively used in traditional oriental medicine. It is a modern pharmaceutical reagent for preventing various human diseases such as cancer. Ginsenosidesd-the major active components of ginsengdexhibit immunomodulatory effects. However, the mechanism and function underlying such effects are not fully elucidated, especially in human monocytes and dendritic cells (DCs). Methods: We investigated the immunomodulatory effect of ginsenosides from Panax ginseng root on CD14⁺ monocytes purified from human adult peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and on their differentiation into DCs that affect CD4⁺ T cell activity. Results: After treatment with ginsenoside fractions, monocyte levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-10 increased through phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), but not p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). After treatment with ginsenoside fractions, TNF-α production and phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and JNK decreased in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-sensitized monocytes. We confirmed that DCs derived from CD14⁺ monocytes in the presence of ginsenoside fractions (Gin-DCs) contained decreased levels of the costimulatory molecules CD80 and CD86. The expression of these costimulatory molecules decreased in LPS-treated DCs exposed to ginsenoside fractions, compared to their expression in LPS-treated DCs in the absence of ginsenoside fractions. Furthermore, LPS-treated Gin-DCs could not induce proliferation and interferon gamma (IFN-γ) production by CD4⁺ T cells with the coculture of Gin-DCs with CD4⁺ T cells. Conclusion: These results suggest that ginsenoside fractions from the ginseng root suppress cytokine production and maturation of LPS-treated DCs and downregulate CD4⁺ T cells.

      • Treatment Outcomes of Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy for Stage Ⅲ Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

        Yeo, Seung-Gu,Cho, Moon-June,Kim, Sun-Young,Lim, Seung-Pyung,Kim, Ki-Hwan,Kim, Jun-Sang 충남대학교 암연구소 2006 암연구소 업적집 Vol.5 No.-

Purpose: To evaluate the treatment outcomes of the three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT), in conjunction with induction chemotherapy, for the treatment of stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: Between November 1998 and March 2003, 22 patients with histologically proven, clinical stage III NSCLC, treated with induction chemotherapy, followed by 3D-CRT, were retrospectively analyzed. There were 21 males (96%) and 1 female (4%), with a median age of 68.5 (range, 42~79). The clinical cancer stages were IIIA and IIIB in 41 and 59%, respectively. The histologies were squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and others in 73,18 and 9%, respectively. Twenty patients (91%) received induction chemotherapy before radiation therapy. The majority of the chemotherapy regimen consisted of cisplatin and gemcitabine. Radiation was delivered with conventional anteroposterior/ posteroanterior fields for 36 Gy, and then 3D-CRT was performed. The total radiation dose was 70.2 Gy. The median follow-up period was 17 months (range, 4~59months). Results: The median overall survival was 19 months. The two and four-year overall survival rates were 37.9 and 30.3%, respectively. The median progression-free survival was 21 months. The two and four-year progression-free survival rates were 42.1 and 21%, respectively. The prognostic factors for overall survival by a univariate analysis were age, histology and T stage (p<0.05). Acute radiation toxicities, as evaluated by the RTOG toxicity criteria, included two cases of grade 3 lung toxicity and one case of grade 2 esophagus toxicity. Conclusion: The radiation dose could be increased without a significant increment in the acute toxicities when using 3D-CRT. It also seems to be a safe, well-tolerated and effective treatment modality for stage III NSCLC. (Cancer Res Treat. 2005;37:273-278)

      • Diagnosis of Chlamydial infection by using monoclonal antibody

        Yeo, Myeong-Gu,Kim, Ho-Sang,Kim, Young-Ju,Kim, Sung-Jun,Kim, Jong-Se,Choi, Young-Bok,Park, Yeal 조선대학교 생명과학연구소 1997 생명과학 연구 Vol.5 No.-

Hybrid cell line that produced MAbs against Chlamydia trachomatis surface antigens were prepared by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells with BALB/c mouse. Those Mabs were used to examine the antigenic specificity and biological function of several Chlamydia serotypes. Using those MABs, chlamydial inclusions were detected by using chemiluminence and it turns out that the chemiluminents method was very useful to detect the chlamydial inclusions or infection. It was confirmed that this method is easy to detect and to reduce the time consuming compared with examination of chlamydial inclusions order fluorescence microscopy.
