Sait, Khalid Hussain,Anfinan, Nisrin Mohammad,Eldeek, Basem,Al-Ahmadi, Jawher,Al-Attas, Maha,Sait, Hesham Khalid,Basalamah, Hussain Abdullah,Al-Ama, Nabeel,El Sayed, Mohamed Ezzat Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6

Background: To evaluate the perception of cancer patients toward treatment services and influencing factors and to inquire about the use of complementary alternative medicine (CAM). Materials and Methods: Information was obtained through pre-tested structured questionnaires completed by cancer patients during treatment at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Results: Of 242 patients, 137 (64.6%) accepted to enter this study. Most were Saudi (n=93, 68%), female (n=80, 58%), educated at university (n=71, 52%), married (n=97, 72%) and with breast cancer (n=36, 26%). One-hundred (73%) patients were satisfied with the services provided; 61% were Saudi. Ninety-four (68%) respondents were satisfied with the explanation of their cancer. Twenty-eight (21.6%) patients received CAM, of them 54.0% received herbal followed by rakia (21.0%), nutritional supplements/vitamins (7.0%) and Zamam water (18.0%), with significant differences among them (p =0.004). Seven (5%) patients believed this therapy could be used alone; 34 (25%) patients believed it could be used with other treatments, regardless of whether they themselves used this therapy. Fifty-three (53%) satisfied patients felt they received enough support; 31 (58%) patients received support from family and friends; 22 (41.6%) patients received support from the health-care team. Patients who received information about their disease from their physicians and those who felt they had enough support were more satisfied. The patients who took alternative treatment were older age, mostly female and highly educated but values did not reach significance. Conclusions: We stress enhancing the educational and supportive aspects of cancer-patient services to improve their treatment satisfaction and emphasize the need for increasing the educational and awareness programs offered to these patients.

Effect of Spore-Forming Probiotics on the Poultry Production: A Review

        Khalid, Anam,Khalid, Fatima,Mahreen, Nida,Hussain, Syed Makhdoom,Shahzad, Muhammad Mudassar,Khan, Salman,Wang, Zaigui Korean Society for Food Science of Animal Resource 2022 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.42 No.6

Due to the bad aspects associated with the use of antibiotics, the pressure on poultry production prompted the efforts to find out suitable growth-promoting and disease-preventing alternatives. Although many cost-effective alternatives have been developed, currently, one of the most auspicious alternatives for poultry feed is spore-forming probiotics, which can exert more beneficial effects as compared to normal probiotics, because of their ability to withstand the harsh external and internal conditions which result in increased viability. Many studies have already used spore-forming probiotics to improve different parameters of poultry production. Our laboratory has recently isolated a spore-forming bacterial strain, which has the potential to be used as a probiotic. So, to provide a detailed understanding, the current review aimed to collect valuable references to describe the mechanism of action of spore-forming probiotics and their effect on all the key aspects of poultry production.

Evaluation of Bt-cotton Genotypes for Resistance to Cotton Leaf Curl Disease under High Inoculum Pressure in the Field and Using Graft Inoculation in Glasshouse

        Khalid Pervaiz Akhtar,Manzoor Hussain,Mahmood-Ul-Hassan,Muhammad Sarwar,Nighat Sarwar 한국식물병리학회 2015 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.31 No.2

Bt-cotton germplasm, consisting of 75 genotypes was evaluated against cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) under high inoculum pressure in the field and using graft inoculation in glasshouse by visual symptom scoring assessments. None of the tested genotype was found disease free under both evaluation tests. Under field conditions in 2011, 3 genotypes were found resistant, 4 moderately resistant, 3 tolerant, 2 moderately susceptible and one susceptible; in 2012, 3 genotypes were tolerant, 7 moderately susceptible, 5 susceptible and 38 highly susceptible; in 2013, one was moderately susceptible and 51 were highly susceptible with varying degree of percent disease index (PDI) and severity index (SI). However, through graft evaluation in glasshouse, none of the graft inoculated plant was symptomless. All tested genotypes showed disease symptoms with SI values ranging between 5.0 and 6.0, and latent period between 12 and 14 days. Of the 75 genotypes evaluated using graft inoculation, 11 were found susceptible with SI values of 5.0 to 5.4 while remaining 64 were highly susceptible with SI values of 5.5 to 6.0. Inoculated plants of all tested genotypes exhibited severe disease symptoms within 10 days after the appearance of initial symptoms. No reduction in SI value was observed until the end of the experiment i.e., 90 days after grafting. Information generated under the present study clearly demonstrates that no sources of resistance to CLCuD are available among the tested Bt-cotton genotypes. So, a breeding programme is needed to introgress the CLCuD-resistance from other resistant sources to agronomically suitable Bt-cotton genotypes.

Parameter-formability Relationship in ISF of Tri-Layered Cu-Steel-Cu Composite Sheet Metal: Response Surface and Microscopic Analyses

Khalid A Al-Ghamdi,Ghulam Hussain 한국정밀공학회 2016 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.17 No.12

This study analyzes the parameters effects on the formability in Incremental-Sheet-Forming (ISF) of a tri-layered Cu-Steel-Cu composite sheet. The effects are found to be very complex, highly interactive, and somehow different from those reported in the literature for the monolithic sheet metals. High rotational speed and feed rate pose positive effect, regardless of tool size and step size, when the composite sheet is annealed to low temperature (e.g., 400oC). These high settings have adverse effects, contrarily, specifically when the tool diameter is large and the sheet is annealed to high temperature (e.g., 700oC). This, as per microscopic observation, is attributed to delamination of high-annealed laminates (characterized by low bond strength). The delamination as dictated by hole drill tests possibly occurs due to a reason that the laminates experience low compressive residual stress when processed with the aforesaid parameters. The XRD analysis reveals that the formation of any new element does not occur during ISF, thus ruling out the potential effect of material processing on microstructural change on the sheet fracture. Finally, a correlation is formulated using which one without doing experiments can choose the optimum parameters for the ISF of composite sheet with objective to maximize the formability.

      • Integration of RFID Network Planning with Xbee Network : A New Approach

        Khalid Hasnan,Aftab Ahmed,Badrul-aisham,Qadir Bakhsh,Kamran Latif,Kashif Hussain 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Smart Home Vol.10 No.4

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a wireless technology used for real time identification and data capture of items. It replaces the traditional barcode at retail shop, warehousing, logistics and supply chain management etc. The basic requirements for deploying RFID network are to know the number of readers needed, location of the readers and the efficient power setting for each reader. The optimal solution of RFID network planning problems can be achieved by the implementation of newly developed Multi-Colony Global Particle Swarm Optimization (MC-GPSO) algorithm, which computes objective functions scientifically. However owing to the limited transmission range of RFID reader, it can track and identify items within specified range only. A novel approach to integrate RFID network planning with XBee wireless mesh network was developed. It could enhance the communication range and visibility of items identification and tracking activity faster and accurate. It also increases the tracking activity of multiple items as compared to existing barcode technology. RFID system is able to reduce the product loss or shrinkage and bullwhip effect resulting to reduce the overall cost. It also reduces the time of data transfer in global network.

Recommendations Service for Chronic Disease Patient in Multimodel Sensors Home Environment

        Hussain, Maqbool,Ali, Taqdir,Khan, Wajahat Ali,Afzal, Muhammad,Lee, Sungyoung,Latif, Khalid Mary Ann Liebert 2015 TELEMEDICINE JOURNAL AND E HEALTH Vol.21 No.3

With advanced technologies in hand, there exist potential applications and services built around monitoring activities of daily living (ADL) of elderly people at nursing homes. Most of the elderly people in these facilities are suffering from different chronic diseases such as dementia. Existing technologies are mainly focusing on non-medication interventions and monitoring of ADL for addressing loss of autonomy or well-being. Monitoring and managing ADL related to cognitive behaviors for non-medication intervention are very effective in improving dementia patients' conditions. However, cognitive functions of patients can be improved if appropriate recommendations of medications are delivered at a particular time. Previously we developed the Secured Wireless Sensor Network Integrated Cloud Computing for Ubiquitous-Life Care (SC(3)). SC(3) services were limited to monitoring ADL of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease and providing non-medication recommendations to the patient. In this article, we propose a system called the Smart Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) as an integral part of the SC(3) platform. Using the Smart CDSS, patients are provided with access to medication recommendations of expert physicians. Physicians are provided with an interface to create clinical knowledge for medication recommendations and to observe the patient's condition. The clinical knowledge created by physicians as the knowledge base of the Smart CDSS produces recommendations to the caregiver for medications based on each patient's symptoms.

The critical role of intrinsic physicochemical properties of catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol: A state of the art review

        Ijaz Hussain,Umar Mustapha,Ahmed T. Al-Qathmi,Zuhair O Malaibari,Sarah Alotaibi,Samia,Khalid Alhooshani,Saheed A. Ganiyu 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.128 No.-

Catalytic hydrogenation is one of the most innovative techniques for reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO2) by converting it into beneficial products such as methanol (CH3OH). CH3OH is an alternativefuel that offers a practical, effective, and efficient solution to the energy storage problem. Despite the significantadvances in the CO2 hydrogenation process, developing an appropriate and efficient catalytic systemremains a significant obstacle and challenge. Many review papers on catalyst development for CO2hydrogenation have been published, focusing on the influence of transition, noble metal-based catalysts, and process parameter. However, present knowledge of the mutually reinforcing correlations betweencatalytic properties and CO2 hydrogenation activity has to be enhanced. It is very important to have acomprehensive understanding of the relationship between catalytic performance and physicochemicalproperties in order to create a catalytic system that is both highly efficient and economically viable forcommercialization. Therefore, the focus of this review is on the synergistic interactions between catalyticCO2 hydrogenation activity and catalytic properties such as porosity, surface area, metal-support interaction, metal dispersion, oxygen vacancies, metal particle size, reducibility, and chemical composition acidity/basicity. Furthermore, this review examined and compared the most up-to-date findings on thehydrogenation of CO2 to CH3OH using various heterogeneous catalysts. It also discussed the challengesand prospects for improving CH3OH production by CO2 hydrogenation. Researchers and environmentalistsin academia and industry who are interested in finding ways to reduce CO2 emissions will find thisoverview to be a valuable resource.

Analysis of a Non-Evaporable Getter of Ti-Al-Zr Thin Film with Enhanced Performance Used for Ultra-High Vacuum Generation

        Muhammad Khalid Alamgir,M. Ikram,Ghalib Hussain Mughal,Ghulam Asghar,Sha q ur Rehman,S. Qaseem,M. Kamran,Amir Ullah,Sartaj Khan 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.75 No.5

Non-evaporable getter (NEG) thin films of Ti-Al-Zr and Ti-Zr were prepared on stainless-steel substrate by using the cathodic arc deposition technique. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to analyze the getter behavior of the non-evaporable getter thin films. The SEM images displayed the porous and rough surfaces of the thin films, which is an indication of high adsorption and sticking probabilities for the residual gases present in the chamber. The volume elemental composition of the thin films was measured by using EDX. The XRD patterns of the synthesized thin films indicated that the films had an amorphous nature and high structural stability. The in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies revealed that the superficial layers disappeared when the non-evaporable getter of Ti-Al-Zr thin films was heated at a temperature below 250~$^\circ$C for 30 minutes, there by activating the surface. However, for Ti-Zr thin films, no reasonable activation was observed at 250~$^\circ$C. This outcome reveals that thin films of Ti-Al-Zr are good for reducing the outgassing and producing an ultra-high vacuum.

Spin polarization and magneto-dielectric coupling in Al-modified thin iron oxide films -microwave mediated sol-gel approach

        Sidra Khalid,Saira Riaz,Samia Naeem,Aseya Akbar,S. Sajjad Hussain,YB Xu,Shahzad Naseem 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.103 No.-

Production of single-phase materials with multifunctional properties is still a challenge faced by materialscientists. In addition, obtaining high spin polarization efficiency in the materials that exhibit multifunctionalproperties is a big issue. A novel approach is suggested in this work for obtaining multifunctionalityand spin polarization in the same material. This approach has combined the effect of microwave radiationsand aluminum (Al) doping in iron oxide thin films during synthesis. Combined effect of microwaveradiations and Al doping results in controlling / tuning the structural transitions in iron oxide thin films. Pristine and 2–10 wt% Al doped iron oxide thin films are prepared and studied in detail. Raman analysisshows that 2 and 4 wt% Al concentration results in c-Fe2O3 + Fe3O4 phase with 71.3% and 64.5% of c-Fe2O3content, respectively. XRD and Raman analyses confirm the transition from c-Fe2O3 to Fe3O4 thin films atAl concentrations of 6–10 wt%. Structural transformation shows that microwave radiations catalyzes thatAl3+ions to occupy the vacancies on B sites of iron oxide thus, lead to the formation of Fe3O4. Observationof Verwey transition ~ 126 K also supports the transition in phases of iron oxide with increase in saturationmagnetization from 251.3emu/cm3 (pristine films) to 405.6emu/cm3 (8 wt% Al concentration). Highdielectric constant of ~ 135.5 (log f = 5.0) is observed for 8 wt% Al concentration. Conductivity anddetailed impedance & modulus analyses depict Mott’s hopping phenomenon along with presence of differentrelaxation times. Coupling between magnetic and dielectric properties is observed at room temperature. Magnetoresistance curves indicate spin polarization efficiency of ~24%.
