Vol.41 No.1

The rapid growth of the Korean fashion industry has contributed greatly to the establishment of various fashion associations that have appeared since the 1960s. Seoul Fashion Week celebrated its 20th anniversary; there is now a crucial opportunity for the role of Korean fashion associations to the world`s top five fashion collections. This study examines and compares the various roles of Korean fashion associations and the fashion associations of France, Italy, USA, and UK. Based on the comparison results, suggestions for the roles of Korean fashion associations are as follows. The following three roles are important in both Korean and foreign associations: stable operation of collections, the creation of various funds to support fashion designers, and foster new designers through linkage with the education programs for textiles and design. Mutual cooperation among various associations is essential to achieve future goals. The specific activities of foreign associations are highly suggestive for direction. In addition to the pursuit of members` rights, it is also desirable to conduct various social activities. It is necessary to create various events that ordinary citizens and students can enjoy in addition to achieving the goal of promoting and selling products at the Seoul Fashion Week. In order to overcome various difficult situations facing Korea and to prepare for a great leap forward for the fashion industry, Korean fashion associations should spare no effort to overcome mutually conflicting interests and understand other perspectives from a macro perspective.

Vol.41 No.3

In this study, three kinds of wearable fashion prototypes were developed using 3D printers with the goal of developing a practical production method for daily clothes. Prototypes were modeled using Rhinoceros software and developed using FDM 3D printers and TPU filaments. The results of this study are as follows. First, it confirmed the possibility of FDM-type entry-level 3D printers as a tool to develop wearable fashion products. Second, TPU filaments that are soft and ductile are highly likely to be used as a clothing material. Third, patterns designed through the 3D modeling process can be sampled directly to a 3D printer and easily corrected and supplemented. Fourth, it was confirmed that TPU prints of about 1.00mm thickness can be sewn with fabric using sewing machines through the development of `Prototype 1` and `Prototype 2`; in addition, hand stitching is also possible. Fifth, as in the case of `Prototype 3`, it is possible to fabricate a garment fit enough to the body if the clothing configuration is designed to connect the basic module using TPU filaments. In the future, the development of wearable fashion prototypes using various materials and 3D printing technology will help diversify everyday clothes.

This article is about using the fuel mixed with. 10% and 20% bio ethanol to gasoline for the engine as a way to reduce carbon emission before commercializing future automobiles like fuel cell cars. The fuel mixed with 10% and 20% bio ethanol showed output equivalent to that of the previous gasoline fuel. CO and CO2 emission was somewhat reduced, but the different was not significant And the consumption of the fuel increased slightly. However, bio ethanol is produced from bio mass growing with the absorption of carbon dioxide, so the total amount of carbon dioxide did not increase according to the result. In NOx, as the use of ethanol increases, the effect of reduction gets greater, and the emission of oxygen showed almost no change compared with gasoline.

      • Ring-opening metathesis polymerization of tetracyclododecene using various catalyst systems

        Kim, Jaehoon,Wu, Chun Ji,Kim, Wan-Joo,Kim, Junhyuk,Lee, Hyunjoo,Kim, Jae-Duck Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2010 Journal of applied polymer science Vol.116 No.1

<P>Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of a polycyclic olefin monomer (tetracyclododecene, TCD) was carried out using various catalyst systems. The catalysts included titanium-based ternary system (titanium tetrachloride, TiCl4/triethylaluminum, Et3Al/triethylamine, Et3N), tungsten-based ternary system (tungsten hexachloride, WCl6/triisobutyl aluminum, (i-Bu)3Al/ethanol), and a ruthenium benzylidene catalyst (Grubbs 1st catalyst). The Grubbs 1st catalyst was most active in ROMP of TCD. The tungsten-based catalyst was found to be more active than the titanium-based catalyst. In contrast to the titanium-based and the Grubbs 1st catalysts, ROMP of TCD with the tungsten-based catalyst was very sensitive to gelation in the course of reaction. The effects of ethanol, WCl6 concentration, TCD/WCl6 ratio, and 1-hexane on the polymerization yield and the polymer gel formation were investigated in detail, and optimized ROMP conditions were determined. Chemical structure of synthesized polymer was characterized using one- and two-dimensional 150 MHz 13C and 600 MHz 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, molecular weights were measured using gel-permeation chromatography, and thermal properties were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry. Number-average molecular weights (Mn) of the polymer were in the range of 1.5–4.7 × 104 g/mol, and glass transition temperatures were in the range of 185–220°C. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Picomolar Scale Determination of Carbohydrates Covalently Immobilized on Activated Beads Using Hydroxyl Functionality

        Yu, Jaehoon,Park, Yong-keun,Park, Hokoon,Chun, Sung-Min,Jeong, Sunjoo The Korea Science and Technology Center 1999 BMB Reports Vol.32 No.1

Since carbohydrates are major mediators in cell-to-cell adhesion and communication, the development of specific and strong binders against them could generate promising therapeutics. As the first step towards that goal, sugar molecules have to be immobilized to be used as an affinity matrix. The amino functionality in sugar in the most active nucleophile for the immobilization, if the amino group is available. An alternative and general method is to use the hydroxyl group as a direct nucleophile, but the quantitation of immobilized hydroxyl groups is not easily done. To overcome this limitation, we have developed a method to immobilize various isomers of monosaccharides with p-nitrophenyl group to the beads by using their hydroxyl groups. It was found that the amount of immobilized sugar was independent of the sugar, but was dependent on the number of hydroxyl groups. We also developed a sensitive method to quantify the amount of immobilized sugar at the picomolar scale by utilizing commercially available glycosidases to release a sensitive molecule, p-nitrophenol, and detect it by HPLC. This new technique would allow a facile quantitation method for immobilized sugar molecules, which could be used as the affinity matrix to develop strong binders against biologically important sugars.

A Study of Viewers' Responses to Luxury Haul Videos on YouTube

Vol.44 No.4

This study examined how viewers perceived luxury haul videos, what factors made them experience vicarious pleasure and gain relative deprivation when watching them. This study conducted an interview with 20 viewers of luxury haul videos. The content obtained from the interview was analyzed by classifying it into academic terms. Cases of vicarious pleasure arose when viewers had sufficient empathy when watching videos, which was intensified by YouTubers' behavior and visual stimulation in videos. A person's relative deprivation due to her financial capabilities or appearance occurred when she compared herself with YouTubers. The more viewers perceived luxury haul as a source of information, the more they felt relative deprivation; in addition, the more they perceived it as entertainment, the more they felt vicarious pleasure. Viewers who had a high level of involvement in luxury goods tended to feel vicarious pleasure; however, viewers with a high level of involvement in YouTubers tended to feel relative deprivation. This study helps luxury brands and YouTubers understand viewers' perception of their products and programs as well as helps in the development of fashion haul videos that are beneficial to viewers.

The Social Perspective on the Female Body in Korean Nude Paintings Focused on the Role of Drapery and Clothes

Vol.44 No.2

In this study, we analyzed the images of women in Korean society through the female body expressed in nude paintings from Korea. The study included a literature study and a case study. Through prior research, we examined the history of nude paintings in Korea and the way people conceptualized the female body in Korean society. The case study focused on nude paintings of Korean artists, produced since 1910, when Western painting concept was first introduced to Korea. The social perspective of the female body in Korea was categorized into the three concepts: Eros, Motherhood and Power. Next, we examined the role of drapery and clothes in expressing these three concepts. Drapery and clothes played active roles in hiding and emphasizing the female body, showing the psychology of a woman or the artist's intention, showing the entire mood of the work, and giving three dimensional feeling and elegance to the work. We could see that the role of clothes changed from expressing a virtuousness in the past to stimulating a voyeuristic gaze in the present.
