Protective Effect of Copper against Pancreatic Insult in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetogenic Rat
Kim, Hyoung-Chun,Jhoo, Wang-Kee,Kim, Kyeong-Ho,Kim, Jin-Tae,Lee, Sang-Joon,Hur, In-Hoi The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1990 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.13 No.2
The present study examined the alterations in endogenous oxy-radical scaverging system of pancreatic tissue associated with the dose of 45 mg/kg steptozotocin (STZ) alone or with various combinations. The activities of pancreatic Min-superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase were no apparent changes in the other groups except for the Cu(II) 4 mg/kg pretreated group. The presence of 4 mg/kg of Cu(II) with or without 125 mg /kg of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) markedly attenuated the fall in activity of Cu, Zn-Sod by STZ stress. In particular, STZ-induced superoxide generation was dramatically abolished by prior administration of Cu(II) 4 mg/kg. Conculsively, We suggested the possible involvement that copper may enhance the defence mechanism of pancreatic oxidative damage by STZ challenge.

The effect of seasonal trmperature changes on the occurrence of Microcotyle sebastis in cultures rockfish was investigated. The prevalence of M. sebastis on the 1998 year-class rockfish was 100% from Novemver 1998 to June 1999, then, decreased slightly during the warm months (August and September). Between January and March 1999, abundance of M. sebastis increased, reaching a peak in March, then decreased significantly at April. The abundance of M. sebastis re-decreased significantly at August. The prevalence and abundance of M. sebastis on the 1999 year-class rockfish were increased at October 1999. The abrupt decline in the abundance of M. sebastis on the 1998 year-class in August suggents that the high temperatures in summer were detrimental to the survival and reproducton of M. sebastis.

Susceptibility of Oral Bacteria to Essential Oil of Chrysanthemum boreale
Kim, Kang-Ju,Kook, Joong-Ki,Kim, Young-Hoi,Yu, Hyeon-Hee,Yang, Chun-Ho,Seo, Se-Jeong,Kim, Yeon-Hwa,You, Yong-Ouk 대한구강생물학회 2004 International Journal of Oral Biology Vol.29 No.1
The essential oil of Chrysanthemum boreale Makino was analyzed by means of GC and GC-MS. Eighty-seven constituents were identified representing 94.13% of the total oil and the major components were camphor, α-thujone, cis-chrysanthenol, 1,8-cineole, α-pinene, and β-caryophyllene. This essential oil exhibited antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis, Fusobacterium nucleatum and Porphyromonas gingivalis.
Management of 2-4 cm Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Risk of Recurrence Compared to 1-2 cm and >4 cm
Min Hoi Kim,Joon-Hyop Lee,Yun Yeong Kim,Yong Soon Chun,Heung Kyu Park,Sang Tae Choi,Jin Mo Kang,Yoo Seung Chung 대한갑상선-내분비외과학회 2020 The Koreran journal of Endocrine Surgery Vol.20 No.4
Purpose Clinicians still debate how to manage 2-4 cm papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). To understand the characteristics and prognosis of these tumors, we compared clinicopathological prognostic factors and prognosis among 1-2 cm, 2-4 cm, and >4 cm PTC. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 2,079 patients with primary PTC >1 cm who were diagnosed between 2002 and 2017. Results The patients mean age was 47.9±12.5 years, and 83.2% were women. The follow-up period was 81.1±41.8 months. The tumor recurred in 138 patients (6.6%), and thyroid cancer-related death developed in 3 cases (0.1%). As tumor size increased, so did the proportion of male patients, lymphovascular invasion, resection margin positivity, lymph node (LN) metastasis, metastasis in >5 LNs, T4, N stage, and M stage. Recurrence increased linearly according to tumor size, as did distant metastasis as first recurrence and progression to distant metastasis. Tumor size, N stage, metastasis in >5 LNs, and LN metastasis were significant independent risk factors for PTC recurrence. The recurrence rate of 2-4 cm PTC was 13.4%, while the risk of recurrence was 3 times higher than in 1-2 cm PTC. The 5-year recurrence free survival (RFS) rates of 1-2 cm, 2-4 cm, and >4 cm PTC were 97.0%, 88.0%, and 74.0%, respectively, while the 10-year RFS rates were 95.0%, 84.0%, and 71.0%. Conclusion The 2-4 cm PTC may be pathologically distinct from 1-2 cm PTC and should be treated differently.
