Football has also been widely implemented as a tool for education in secondary school curriculums. Despite this, satisfactory attempts have not been made, in Korea, for deep and meaningful research about the history of football and there are no examples of how interesting episodes about football, developed to use in the education field. Given this reality, this research has its aims to develop episodes for interesting football lessons and the findings can be summarized as follows; Firstly, five individual episodes related to the origin of ancient football were developed. These were; the story of chinese soccer, the Greek and Roman football story, the story of mob football from Medieval England, the story of the ban on football, and football fanaticism that defied even the threat of criminal prosecution. Nextly, nine episodes were developed to illustrate the organization of football. These were on the subjects of Cambridge Rule football, soccer, the 10 articles of the Freemason’s Tavern, the diffusion of football and the emergence of the FA Cup, the ball used for football, handling and scoring, the birth of the penalty kick and finally the defense that threatens the opposition’s rear. Thirdly, four episodes were develped in relation to the social history of soccer. These were about football and social class, the appearance of football audience, workers attending football games and the debate about the professionalization of football.

Vol.55 No.1

In this study, the course through which football was introduced in Korea was reviewed, and development of football in the country during the Japanese occupation was examined, based on literature. The result was as follows: there are two possibilities regarding how football was introduced in Korea. It could have been introduced in 1882 by the crew of Flying Fish, a British surveying ship, or, in 1890, by foreign school teachers. However, it was not possible to clearly verify it. Also, during the Japanese occupation, football games at schools spread the sport to the public and football clubs played an important role in popularizing football as a general sport played by adults. Second, establishment of a football-related association led to establishment of the sport rules, instruction and encouragement of the sport, and organization of official football matches. It also organized and systematized football in Korea. Third, official football matches on a national level improved competency and professionalism of Korean football.

Sustainable Development Strategy of Women’s Football: In-depth Analysis of Policy, Institutional System, and Structure of Women’s Football in South Korea

( Gang Alex C. ),( Park Jin ),( Lee Ju Young ),( Jo Eunah ),( Yoo Sang Keon ) 한국체육학회 2022 International journal of human movement science Vol.16 No.1

This research identifies and analyzes various problems that Korean women’s football is facing and offers recommendations for sustainable development by using a qualitative reflective approach. In order to attain these two overarching goals of this study, each of the five researchers shared an extensive record on their perspective on women’s football in South Korea through the process of self-reflection. Furthermore, in an attempt to democratize the data collection process, researchers’ personal records have been used to enrich the scope and depth of data. The factors hindering the continuous development of women’s football are presented through the analysis of sport policy, institutions responsible for the management of women’s football, and the overall football structure. First, a scrutiny of sport policy uncovers various macroscopic influences on the elitization of athletes and early specialization which have contributed to the stagnant participation base in women’s football. Second, the analysis of the institutional system addresses underlying issues on how the current tournament system is organized and implemented under the supervision of the South Korean Women’s Football Federation (KWFF). Lastly, the analysis of the structure challenges the way talent development programs can improve their effectiveness that discerns the peculiar elements of women’s football in South Korea. Having identified the barriers that hinder positive development in women’s football, this study suggests four practical recommendations, which include abolishing the Physical Education Specialist System, demanding active involvement of educational institutions to establish teams, and reorganization of competition structure and Golden Age program.
