Studies of the communication between men and women have shown that males are usually the controlling participants during the communicative event when the other participant is a female. This study explores the possibility of the female being the dominant participant in the communicative event by correlating the nonverbal communicative behavior of both the male and the female with the outcome of the communicative event in a consumer based setting. The results are then discussed showing the participant who is in control of the communicative event.
Russia in Central Asia: The Dynamics of Great-Power Politics in a Volatile Region

With US and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces poised for a major drawdown from Afghanistan in 2014, and Russia determined to strengthen its influence in the “near abroad,” new uncertainties face the volatile post-Soviet Central Asian states. Changing power alignments in the region will pose new challenges for the United States, Russia, China, and the European Union. This article assesses the evolving direction of great-power interaction and influence in Central Asia, focusing on Moscow’s growing assertiveness in the region. Using a neoclassical realist framework, I argue that geographic, historical, and cultural ties; a military presence; and developing economic institutions favor Russia over the short term, although China is best poised to expand regional influence over the long run. US war weariness, budget constraints, and distance suggest that-barring new major terrorist threats emanating from the region-Washington’s presence and influence will gradually diminish.
Formulation and Shelf Life of a Nutritional Supplement for Undernourished Elderly People

A nutritional supplement was developed aiming at correcting the most common nutrient and caloric deficiencies encountered in elderly people (≥60 years old). The protein source was a mixture of whey protein isolates (WPI) and bovine collagen hydrolysate (BCH) with high nutritional and functional qualities making up 12% of the formulation. The carbohydrate fraction was composed of sucrose, inulin (soluble fiber), and fructo-oligosaccharide (prebiotic). The most commonly deficient essential minerals and vitamins were also included. Acceptance of the product was good according to both an elderly panel and a laboratory panel composing of both sexes and various ages. The stability of the formulations was evaluated and the estimated shelf life at room temperature (ca. 27℃) was approximately 4 months.

Increased oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of experimental diabetic neuropathy, but translational evidence in recent-onset diabetes is scarce. We aimed to determine whether markers of systemic oxidative stress are associated with diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSPN) in recent-onset diabetes. In this cross-sectional study, we measured serum concentrations of extracellular superoxide dismutase (SOD3), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and reduced glutathione (GSH) in 107 type 1 and 215 type 2 diabetes patients from the German Diabetes Study baseline cohort and 37 glucose-tolerant individuals (controls). DSPN was defined by electrophysiological and clinical criteria (Toronto Consensus, 2011). SOD3 and GSH concentrations were lower in individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes compared with concentrations in controls (Po0.0001). In contrast, the TBARS concentration was higher in participants with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes compared with levels in controls (Po0.0001). In addition, the SOD3 concentration was higher in participants with type 1 diabetes compared to concentrations in those with type 2 diabetes (Po0.0001). A low SOD3 concentration was associated with DSPN in individuals with type 1 diabetes (β=− 0.306, P=0.002), type 2 diabetes (β=− 0.164, P=0.017), and in both groups combined (β=− 0.206, P=0.0003). Lower SOD3 concentrations were associated with decreased motor nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in men and, to a lesser degree, with reduced sensory NCV in women with diabetes. In conclusion, several biomarkers of oxidative stress are altered in recent-onset diabetes, with only a lower SOD3 concentration being linked to the presence of DSPN, suggesting a role for reduced extracellular antioxidative defense against superoxide in the early development of DSPN

He이 CF₄및 CClF₃에 無限희석된 狀態下에서의 Henry's law Constant와 Partial molar volume을 Krichevsky-kasarnovsky式을 利用하여 相平衡實驗 data로 부터 얻고 또한 理論的으로 計算하여 얻었다. 本 硏究에서 취급한 系에서의 Henry's law constant는 지금까지 硏究된 어떤 helium 二成分系에서 보다도 제일 큰 事實이 發見되었다. 無限희석된 狀態下에서의 Henry's law constant와 partial molar volume을 추정하기 위해 Snider와 Herrington이 제시한 유체에 對한 hard sphere model을 利用했다. 추정된 値와 實驗値와는 實驗値의 55%以內의 오차를 가지고 있었다. The Henry's law constants and partial molar volumes at infinite dilution for helium in CF₄and CClF₃have been extracted from the experimental phase equilibrium data using the Krichevsky-Kasarnovsky equation and also theoretically predicted. It has been found that the Henry's law constants for the systems considered in this work are larger than those for any other helium binary systems investigated so far at a given reduced temperature. The hard sphere model of fluids as presented by Snider and Herrington has been used to predict the Henry's law constants and the partial molar volumes at infinite dilution. The predicted values agreed with the experimental values within at most 55% of the experimental values.
