      • Well-designed Te/SnS2/Ag artificial nanoleaves for enabling and enhancing visible-light driven overall splitting of pure water

        Yan, Changzeng,Xue, Xiaolan,Zhang, Wenjun,Li, Xiaojie,Liu, Juan,Yang, Songyuan,Hu, Yi,Chen, Renpeng,Yan, Yaping,Zhu, Guoyin,Kang, Zhenhui,Kang, Dae Joon,Liu, Jie,Jin, Zhong unknown 2017 Nano energy Vol.39 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To produce hydrogen and oxygen from photocatalytic overall splitting of pure water provides a promising green route to directly convert solar energy to clean fuel. However, the design and fabrication of high-efficiency photocatalyst is challenging. Here we present that by connecting different nanostructures together in a rational fashion, components that cannot individually split water into H2 and O2 can work together as efficient photocatalyst with high solar-to-hydrogen (STH) energy conversion efficiency and avoid the use of any sacrificial reagent. Specifically, Te/SnS2/Ag artificial nanoleaves (ANLs) consist of ultrathin SnS2 nanoplates grown on Te nanowires and decorated with numerous Ag nanoparticles. The appropriate band structure of Te/SnS2 p-n junctions and the surface plasmon resonance of Ag nanoparticles synergistically enhance the quantum yield and separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs. As a result, Te/SnS2/Ag ANLs enable visible-light driven overall water-splitting without any sacrificial reagent and exhibit high H2 and O2 production rates of 332.4 and 166.2μmolh−1, respectively. Well-preserved structure after long-term measurement indicates its high stability. It represents a feasible approach for direct H2 production from only sunlight, pure water, and rationally-designed ANL photocatalysts.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Te/SnS2/Ag ANLs heterostructure is prepared to catalyze overall water splitting. </LI> <LI> The catalyst show impressive H2 and O2 production rate under visible light. </LI> <LI> The structure and efficiency of catalyst shows no degradation after 10 days. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

A Novel Distributed Equivalent Circuit Model for Single-Core Cables

        Li Rui-Fang,Hu Hao,Cao Xiao-Bin,Li Zhong-Mei,Li Jun-Hao,Zhu Chuan-Lin,Liu Le-Jia 대한전기학회 2024 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.19 No.1

The number of cables used for urban power supply increases rapidly. The sheath current in these cables, which is generated via induction, produces a current loss. When the situation is serious, the ground lead and the middle connector of the cable will be burned. In this paper, the existing single-core cable equivalent circuit model is used to calculate the sheath current of a 3-phase cable under the condition of non-transposition and cross connection. By comparing the calculated results with the simulation and the experimental results, it is found that the current distribution law for the sheath, which was obtained using the existing model, difers substantially from both the simulation and actual measurements. The error reason of the existing model is revealed, and it is found that the magnitude and phase of the current in the metal sheath of the cable varies with the position under the combined efect of distributed capacitances in the cable and the core-current fux, especially for a 3-phase cross connection, each section of the cable does not meet Kirchhof’s laws, but the sheath electric current in the existing models are considered equal everywhere. Therefore, a novel cable equivalent model is proposed in this paper, which is based on a distributed circuit, and an equation to calculate the sheath current is derived. The model presented in this paper corrects the problems of the existing model, which can be applied to power system, subway, high-speed rail, and any application of single-core cables.

      • Knockdown of HMGN5 Expression by RNA Interference Induces Cell Cycle Arrest in Human Lung Cancer Cells

        Chen, Peng,Wang, Xiu-Li,Ma, Zhong-Sen,Xu, Zhong,Jia, Bo,Ren, Jin,Hu, Yu-Xin,Zhang, Qing-Hua,Ma, Tian-Gang,Yan, Bing-Di,Yan, Qing-Zhu,Li, Yan-Lei,Li, Zhen,Yu, Jin-Yan,Gao, Rong,Fan, Na,Li, Bo,Yang, Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.7

HMGN5 is a typical member of the HMGN (high mobility group nucleosome-binding protein) family which may function as a nucleosomal binding and transcriptional activating protein. Overexpression of HMGN5 has been observed in several human tumors but its role in tumorigenesis has not been fully clarified. To investigate its significance for human lung cancer progression, we successfully constructed a shRNA expression lentiviral vector in which sense and antisense sequences targeting the human HMGN5 were linked with a 9-nucleotide loop. Inhibitory effects of siRNA on endogenous HMGN5 gene expression and protein synthesis were demonstrated via real-time RT-PCR and western blotting. We found HMGN5 silencing to significantly inhibit A549 and H1299 cell proliferation assessed by MTT, BrdU incorporation and colony formation assays. Furthermore, flow cytometry analysis showed that specific knockdown of HMGN5 slowed down the cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase and decreased the populations of A549 and H1299 cells at the S and G2/M phases. Taken together, these results suggest that HMGN5 is directly involved in regulation cell proliferation in A549 and H1299 cells by influencing signaling pathways involved in cell cycle progression. Thus, our finding suggests that targeting HMGN5 may be an effective strategy for human lung cancer treatment.

      • Overexpressed Derlin-1 Inhibits ER Expansion in the Endothelial Cells Derived from Human Hepatic Cavernous Hemangioma

        Hu, Dong,Ran, Yu-Liang,Zhong, Xing,Hu, Hai,Yu, Long,Lou, Jin-Ning,Sun, Li-Xing,Yang, Zhi-Hua Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 2006 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.39 No.6

Proteins that are unfolded or misfolded in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) must be targeted for refolding or degradation to maintain the homeostasis of the ER. Derlin-1 was reportedly implicated in the retro-translocation of misfolded proteins from the ER to the cytosol for degradation. In this report, we showed that Derlin-1 was down-regulated in the endothelial cells derived from human hepatic cavernous hemangioma (CHEC) compared with other tested cells. Electron microscopy analysis showed that ER was aberrantly enlarged in CHEC cells, but not in other tested cells. When overexpressed, Derlin-1 induced the dilated ER to return normal size. This ER dynamic was associated with the activation of unfolded protein response (UPR). In CHEC cells where Derlin-1 was down-regulated, increased expression of the immunoglobulin heavy chain-binding protein (Bip) and UPR-specific splicing of X-box DNA-binding protein 1 (XBP1) mRNA were detected, as compared with that in other tested cells, indicating that UPR was activated. After Derlin-1 overexpression, the extent of UPR activation diminished, as evidenced by decreased expression of Bip, reduced amount of the spliced form of XBP1 ($XBP1_S$), and elevated expression of the unspliced form of XBP1 ($XBP1_U$). Taken together, these findings provide another example of a single protein being able to affect ER dynamic in mammalian cells, and an insight into the possible molecular mechanism(s).

Continuous Sheet Metal Forming for Doubly Curved Surface Parts

Zhong-Yi Cai,Ying-Wu Lan,Ming-Zhe Li,Zhi-Qing Hu,Mi Wang 한국정밀공학회 2012 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

Continuous sheet metal forming (CSMF) is a novel technology for manufacturing doubly curved sheet metal parts. In this process,an upper flexible roll and two lower flexible rolls are employed as a forming tool, with the rotation of flexible rolls, the sheet metal is bent in the longitudinal and transverse directions simultaneously. In this study, the basic principle of CSMF system is introduced and the basic mathematical model to control the CSMF process is presented. Based on the analysis of the sheet metal deformation in longitudinal direction, the formulations to determine the finial curvature of the deformed sheet metal and to estimate the downward displacement of upper roll are obtained. Forming experiments for torus-shaped surface and saddle-shaped surface were carried out. The dimensional accuracy and smoothness of the CSMF parts were measured and analyzed. The experiment results confirm the validity of the presented mathematical models and shows that CSMF can be effectively used in forming of doubly curved surface parts.

      • Down-regulation of miRNA-452 is Associated with Adriamycin-resistance in Breast Cancer Cells

        Hu, Qing,Gong, Jian-Ping,Li, Jian,Zhong, Shan-Liang,Chen, Wei-Xian,Zhang, Jun-Ying,Ma, Teng-Fei,Ji, Hao,Lv, Meng-Meng,Zhao, Jian-Hua,Tang, Jin-Hai Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

Adriamycin (ADR) is an important chemotherapeutic agent frequently used in treatment of breast cancer. However, resistance to ADR results in treatment failure in many patients. Recent studies have indicated that microRNAs (miRNAs) may play an important role in such drug-resistance. In the present study, microRNA-452 (miR-452) was found to be significantly down-regulated in adriamycin-resistant MCF-7 cells (MCF-7/ADR) compared with the parental MCF-7 cells by miRNA microarray and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). MiR-452 mimics and inhibitors partially changed the adriamycin-resistance of breast cancer cells, as also confirmed by apoptosis assay. In exploring the potential mechanisms of miR-452 in the adriamycin-resistance of breast cancer cells, bioinformatics analysis, RT-qPCR and Western blotting showed that dysregulation of miR-452 played an important role in the acquired adriamycin-resistance of breast cancer, maybe at least in part via targeting insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R).

      • Predictive V16alue of Thymidylate Synthase Expression in Gastric Cancer: A Systematic Review with Meta-analysis

        Hu, Hua-Bin,Kuang, Lei,Zeng, Xiao-Min,Li, Bin,Liu, En-Yi,Zhong, Mei-Zuo Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1

Purpose: The relationship between thymidylate synthase (TS) expression and outcomes in gastric cancer (GC) patients remains controversial, although most studies reported poor survival and reduced response to fluoropyrimidine were related to high TS in tumors. We carried out a systematic review of the literature with meta-analysis to estimate the predictive value of TS expression from published studies. Methods: We indentified 24 studies analysing the outcome data in gastric cancer stratified by TS expression. Effect measures of outcome were hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS), or the odds ratio (OR) for overall response rate (ORR). HRs and ORs from these eligible studies were pooled using random-effects meta-analysis. Results: Fifteen studies investigated outcomes in a total of 844 patients with advanced GC, and nine studies investigated outcomes in a total of 1,235 patients with localized GC undergoing adjuvant therapy. Meta-analysis of estimates showed high TS expression was significantly associated with poor OS in the advanced setting (HR: 1.43, 95%CI: 1.08 - 1.90), and poor EFS in the adjuvant setting (HR: 1.53, 95%CI: 1.01 - 2.32). Subgroup analysis demonstrated TS expression to haves even greater value in predicting OS, EFS and ORR in advanced GC patients treated with fluoropyrimidine monotherapy (HR for OS: 2.32, 95%CI: 1.53 - 3.50; HR for EFS: 1.76, 95%CI: 1.19 - 2.60; OR for ORR: 0.32, 95%CI: 0.11 - 0.95). Conclusion: High levels of TS expression were asssociated with a poorer OS for advanced GC patients compared with low levels. In the adjuvant setting, high TS expression was also associated with a worse EFS. Additional studies with consistent methodology are needed to define the precise predictive value of TS.

      • Current Progress in the Treatment of Metaplastic Breast Carcinoma

        Hu, Qing,Chen, Wei-Xian,Zhong, Shan-Liang,Li, Jian,Luo, Zhou,Tang, Jin-Hai,Zhao, Jian-Hua Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.11

Metaplastic breast cancer (MBC) is a rare type of breast carcinoma, characterized by various combinations of mesenchymal, adenocarcinoma and other epithelial components. MBC often manifests as a large mass, with low axillary lymph node involvement and poor prognosis. Knowledge and treatment patterns about MBC demographics, presentation and tumor characteristics are very limited. In clinical practice, MBC is usually treated based on the guidelines developed for infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC). The ideal treatment paradigm for MBC is unknown due to its low incidence and pathological variability, so potential predictors of treatment efficacy need to be explored. This review summarizes the current models and strategies for MBC according to the published literature.
