An Energy-Efficient Multicast Algorithm with Maximum Network Throughput in Multi-hop Wireless Networks

Jiang, Dingde,Xu, Zhengzheng,Li, Wenpan,Yao, Chunping,Lv, Zhihan,Li, Tao The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2016 Journal of communications and networks Vol.18 No.5

Energy consumption has become a main problem of sustainable development in communication networks and how to communicate with high energy efficiency is a significant topic that researchers and network operators commonly concern. In this paper, an energy-efficient multicast algorithm in multi-hop wireless networks is proposed aiming at new generation wireless communications. Traditional multi-hop wireless network design only considers either network efficiency or minimum energy consumption of networks, but rarely the maximum energy efficiency of networks. Different from previous methods, the paper targets maximizing energy efficiency of networks. In order to get optimal energy efficiency to build network multicast, our proposed method tries to maximize network throughput and minimize networks' energy consumption by exploiting network coding and sleeping scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better energy efficiency and performance improvements compared with existing methods.

Graphene oxide composite hydrogels for wearable devices

        Tang Senxuan,Liu Zhihan,Xiang Xu 한국탄소학회 2022 Carbon Letters Vol.32 No.6

For graphene oxide (GO) composite hydrogels, a two-dimensional GO material is introduced into them, whose special structure is used to improve their properties. GO contains abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, which can improve the mechanical properties of hydrogels and support the application needs. Especially, the unique-conjugated structure of GO can endow or enhance the stimulation response of hydrogels. Therefore, GO composite hydrogels have a great potential in the field of wearable devices. We referred to the works published in recent years, and reviewed from these aspects: (a) structure of GO; (b) factors affecting the mechanical properties of the composite hydrogel, including hydrogen bond, ionic bond, coordination bond and physical crosslinking; (c) stimuli and signals; (d) challenges. Finally, we summarized the research progress of GO composite hydrogels in the field of wearable devices, and put forward some prospects.

Thirty-two-tupling frequency millimeter-wave generation based on eight Mach-Zehnder modulators connected in parallel

        Xinqiao Chen,Siyuan Dai,Zhihan Li,Wenyao Ba,Xu Chen 한국전자통신연구원 2024 ETRI Journal Vol.46 No.2

A new method is proposed to generate a 32-tupling frequency millimeter wave (MMW) with eight Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs) connected in parallel. Theoretical analyses and simulation experiments are conducted. The optical sideband suppression ratio (OSSR) of the obtained ±16th order optical side-bands are 61.54 dB and 61.42 dB, and the radio frequency spurious suppression ratios (RFSSRs) of the generated 32-tupling frequency MMW are 55.52 dB and 55.27 dB based on the theoretical analysis and simulation experiments, respectively; these outcomes verified the feasibility of the new method. The main parameters used to affect the stability of the generated signal are the modulation index and extinction ratio of MZM. Their effects on the OSSR and RFSSR of the generated signals are investigated when they deviate from their designed values. Compared with the other proposed methods for the generation of 32-tupling fre-quency MMW by MZM, our method has the best spectral purity and stability, and it is expected to have important MMW over fiber applications.

Grape Seed Extracts Inhibit the Overexpression of Inflammatory Cytokines in Mouse Retinas and ARPE-19 Cells: Potentially Useful Dietary Supplement for Age-Related Eye Dysfunction

        Zeying Chu,Guanqun Ma,Xiangjun Sun,Zhihan Xu,Jianhua Zhang 한국식품영양과학회 2020 Journal of medicinal food Vol.23 No.5

Aging can cause retinal degeneration, which leads to visual impairment among the elderly population. Age-dependent increases in amyloid beta (Aβ) inducesinflammatory cytokine overexpression in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), which promotes the progression of age-related retinal degeneration. However, whether dietary antioxidants are useful for the treatment of RPE degeneration remains to be clarified. This study exposited the protective activities and underlying mechanisms of grape seed extracts (GSEs) against Aβ-induced proinflammatory events in mouse retinas and ARPE-19 cells. The experimental data demonstrated that GSEs attenuated the increases in messenger RNA (mRNA) levels of interleukin 12 (IL-12), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 1β (IL-1β), and interleukin 18 (IL-18) in the retinal tissues of Aβ-treated mice. The experimental results in mice were confirmed by findings in ARPE-19 cells with or without treatment with GSEs. GSEs affected the protein expression levels of endoplasmic reticulum stress markers in ARPE-19 cells exposed to Aβ. Knockdown of Bip blocked the inhibitory activities of GSEs on mRNA levels of IL-6, IL-1β, IL-18, and IL-8. We conclude that GSEs may suppress proinflammatory cytokines partly by increasing the expression of Bip.
