Simple Measurement System for Indoor Power flow Distributions using Voltmeters at Electrical Outlet
Nozaki, Yuhei,Mitani, Yasunori,Yaser, Qudaih,Watanabe, Masayuki 대한전기학회 2013 The Journal of International Council on Electrical Vol.3 No.4
In order to monitor and manage the electric power consumption and distribution in a building or a house dispersedly implemented digital power meters are utilized, while the meters are very costly due to the complicated numerical operation or due to the multi-functionality such as measurements of reactive power, power factor, integrating power and so on. Therefore a simple combination of current transformer (CT) and potential transformer (PT) with post processing of collected data is used for energy usage diagnosis process. However, as long as the power lines are usually behind the walls the CT installation is not easy. In this paper a set of voltmeters dispersedly installed at power outlets is proposed as a monitoring system for power distribution to each outlet. Experimental results show the advantage of the proposed scheme in the sense that it does not disturb the usage of electric appliances and that the system configuration is simple. The proposed system was applied to the monitoring system for avoiding overload conditions or power losses.
Controlled Cationic Polymerization of Sulfide-Containing Vinyl Ethers
Takeshi Namikoshi,Yuhei Watanabe,Ayaka Kaneda,Kazuma Ishikawa,Shinji Watanabe,Miki Murata 한국고분자학회 2022 Macromolecular Research Vol.30 No.1
The living cationic polymerizations of sulfide-containing vinyl ethers, namely, alkyl-sulfide-containing 2-(ethylthio)ethyl vinyl ether (ESEVE) and arylsulfide- containing 2-(phenylthio)ethyl and 2-[4-(methylthio)phenoxy]ethyl vinyl ethers (PSEVE and MSPEVE, respectively), were examined using HCl/ZnCl2, 1-(isobutoxy)ethyl acetate (IBEA)/Et1.5AlCl1.5, and IBEA /Et1.5AlCl1.5/SnCl4 as initiators. The polymerization of ESEVE terminated at a 35% monomer conversion, and a high-molecular-weight polymer was not obtained; instead, the nucleophilicity of the sulfur moiety in ESEVE led to cyclization, forming five-membered ring sulfonium species. In contrast, the side reactions were suppressed when PSEVE was used, which has a less-nucleophilic sulfur moiety on its benzene ring, and polymerization proceeded to an 88% conversion, affording a high-molecular-weight polymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw= 12,500, Mw/Mn = 1.18). Furthermore, cyclic sulfonium was not produced during the polymerization of MSPEVE, in which the sulfur atom was farther from the generated carbocation; the polymerization proceeded quantitatively producing a high-molecular-weight polymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution, despite the short lifetime of the growing species. In particular, a high-molecular-weight polymer with the narrowest distribution (Mw= 13,500, Mw/Mn = 1.08) was obtained when SnCl4 was used as the Lewis acid.

Objectives: Although a few studies have investigated the relationship between kidney and oral function (number of remaining teeth), their results remain inconclusive. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between kidney function and oral health in community-dwelling healthy elderlies and examine the factors associated with kidney function. Materials and Methods: We used cross-sectional data from the Shimane prefecture cohort recruited by the Center for Community-Based Health Research and Education in 2019. We collected clinical data on dental status, background factors and kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR], mL/min/1.73 m2 and creatinine levels, mg/dL). Results: The study enrolled 481 participants, whose mean age was 66.7±7.4 years, and 223 (46.4%) participants were men. Multivariate analysis revealed significant correlations between eGFR (B=0.17, P=0.04), creatinine (B=–0.54, P<0.01), and the number of remaining teeth. The number of remaining teeth was associated with creatinine and eGFR, which are indicators of kidney function. Conclusion: This study suggests that preserving the teeth may prevent decline in kidney function. Dental professionals should provide instructions and professional care to reduce the risk of systemic diseases such as kidney dysfunction.

<P>We report a new observation of the Jupiter family comet 209P/LINEAR during its 2014 return. The comet is recognized as a dust source of a new meteor shower, the May Camelopardalids. 209P/LINEAR was apparently inactive at a heliocentric distance r(h) = 1.6AU and showed weak activity at r(h) <= 1.4AU. We found an active region of <0.001% of the entire nuclear surface during the comet's dormant phase. An edge-on image suggests that particles up to 1 cm in size (with an uncertainty of factor 3-5) were ejected following a differential power-law size distribution with index q = -3.25 +/- 0.10. We derived a mass-loss rate of 2-10 kg s(-1) during the active phase and a total mass of approximate to 5 x 10(7) kg during the 2014 return. The ejection terminal velocity of millimeter- to centimeter-sized particles was 1-4ms(-1), which is comparable to the escape velocity from the nucleus (1.4ms(-1)). These results imply that such large meteoric particles marginally escaped from the highly dormant comet nucleus via the gas drag force only within a few months of the perihelion passage.</P>
