        A native Trichoderma harzianum strain Th62 displays antagonistic activities against phytopathogenic fungi and promotes the growth of Celosia cristata

        Trichoderma spp. are widely applied, eco-friendly mycofungicides and plant growth promoters. Native Trichoderma strainsare likely to have more productive, stable biocontrol and biofertilizer activities since they are well adapted to the local environment. In this study, we isolated a native Trichoderma strain ‘Th62’ from the rhizosphere soil of wild Chelidonium majusplants in Harbin, China (126.6341°E, 45.7242°N). The isolated Trichoderma strain was identifi ed as a T. harzianum strainvia morphological observation and molecular methods based on the rDNA internal transcribed spacer region and elongationfactor-1α gene sequences. Signifi cant antagonistic activities of Th62 against fi ve soil-borne fungal phytopathogens,Fusarium oxysporum , Sclerotinia sclerotiorum , Alternaria alternata , Cytospora chrysosperma, and Rhizoctonia solani ,were confi rmed by dual-culture assays. Furthermore, the crude fermentation products of Th62 also displayed antifungalactivities against these fi ve pathogens. To evaluate the function of Th62 as a biofertilizer, we subsequently applied Th62on cockscomb ( Celosia cristata L), a plant species with both ornamental and medicinal values, by inoculation with Th62conidia at diff erent concentrations, 1 × 10 10 cfu mL −1 , 1 × 10 11 cfu mL −1 , and 1 × 10 12 cfu mL −1 . The benefi cial eff ects ofTh62 were evaluated by measuring the growth and photosynthetic traits of the inoculated cockscomb plants, and the resultsdemonstrated that Th62 signifi cantly improved the photosynthetic effi ciency, photosynthetic capacity, and the adaptabilityto intense light of the inoculated cockscomb plants compared to the controls. Consistently, Th62 inoculation signifi cantlyimproved the growth and fl ower yield of cockscomb. We presented a positive case of isolating and applying native microbialresources on local plantation practices.

      • Image Denoising Algorithm Based on Non Related Dictionary Learning

        In allusion to the partial texture information loss during image deniosing process, an image denoising algorithm based on non related dictionary learning is proposed in this article. In this algorithm, the noise image is firstly divided into mutually overlapped image blocks, and a certain quantity of these image blocks are randomly selected for subsequent dictionary learning; then, non related dictionary learning technology is adopted to obtain the redundant dictionary with relatively strong irrelevance; finally, the sparse encoding algorithm is adopted to obtain the sparse representation coefficient of each image block in the redundant dictionary, and such sparse representation coefficients are used to recover the original image. The experiment result shows: since the redundant dictionary obtained through non related dictionary learning technology can strongly represent the image texture information, PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) of the algorithm proposed in this article is superior to that of the existing advanced algorithm, and the algorithm can well keep the image detail and texture information, thus to improve visual effect.

        Design and Implementation of a Universal System Control Strategy Applicable to VSC-HVDC Systems

        This paper proposes a universal system control strategy for voltage source converter (VSC) based high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. The framework of the designed control strategy consists of five layer structures considering the topology and control characteristics of the VSC-HVDC system. The control commands sent from the topmost layer can be transmitted to the next layer based on the existing communication system. When the commands are sent to each substation, the following transmission of commands between the four lower layers are realized using the internal communication system while ignoring the communication delay. This hierarchical control strategy can be easily applied to any VSC-HVDC system with any topology. Furthermore, an integrated controller for each converter is designed and implemented considering all of the possible operating states. The modular-designed integrated controller makes it quite easy to extend its operating states if necessary, and it is available for any kind of VSC. A detailed model of a VSC-HVDC system containing a DC hub is built in the PSCAD/EMTDC environment. Simulation results based on three operating conditions (the start-up process, the voltage margin control method and the master-slave control method) demonstrate the flexibility and validity of the proposed control strategy.

      • Application of Intelligent Video Monitoring System in Electric Power Construction

        Since the image based intelligent video monitoring system has limited viewing angle, the blind monitoring zone will easily appear when the target is not in the field range of the camera. In order to solve the above problem, an intelligent video monitoring system with auditory function is proposed in this article on the basis of the advantages of sound localization. Firstly, the linear microphone array is acquired and the time delay estimation technology is adopted for sound localization; secondly, the camera is driven to turn to the sound source position to acquire video information; finally, the image detection program is adopted to locate and track the target in a real-time manner, and meanwhile the system feasibility is verified through the simulation experiment. The result shows that the system has good localization and tracking accuracy.

        The preparation, performance and lithiation mechanism of cobalt-doped zinc oxide as a high performance anode material for LIB

        Zn1-xCoxO (0 x 0.15) anode material was prepared by an easy polyacrylamide assisted sol-gel route. The successful replacement of Zinc by Cobalt within Cobalt content x 0.09 was confirmed by structural characterization. The introduction of Cobalt element greatly improved the electro-chemical performances of the matrix Zinc oxide. Without carbon coating, at the 20th cycle, Zn0.91Co0.09O anode still preserved a capacity a little bit more than 1000 mA h g1 and a capacity more than 600 mA h g1 was retained at the end of the 50th cycle. Better rate capability was also witnessed. The SEM, EIS at OCV, CV and in situ XRD were further carried out to elucidate the lithiation mechanism. The role Cobalt doping played can be summarized as follows: the stabilization of the Li2Zn phase, the minimization of charge transfer resistance and the enhanced reversibility of the reduction from metal oxide to metal.

      • ZnO Nanowire Arrays on 3D Hierachical Graphene Foam: Biomarker Detection of Parkinson’s Disease

        <P>We report that vertically aligned ZnO nanowire arrays (ZnO NWAs) were fabricated on 3D graphene foam (GF) and used to selectively detect uric acid (UA), dopamine (DA), and ascorbic acid (AA) by a differential pulse voltammetry method. The optimized ZnO NWA/GF electrode provided a high surface area and high selectivity with a detection limit of 1 nM for UA and DA. The high selectivity in the oxidation potential was explained by the gap difference between the lowest unoccupied and highest occupied molecular orbitals of a biomolecule for a set of given electrodes. This method was further used to detect UA levels in the serum of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). The UA level was 25% lower in PD patients than in healthy individuals.       • Color filters based on a nanoporous Al-AAO resonator featuring structure tolerant color saturation.

        <P>Reflection type subtractive tri-color filters, enabling metal-thickness tolerant high color saturation, were proposed and demonstrated capitalizing on a nanoporous metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) resonant structure, which comprises a cavity made of self-assembled nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO), sandwiched between an Al film of the same nanoporous configuration and a highly reflective aluminum (Al) substrate. For the proposed filter, the output color was easily determined by controlling the resonance wavelength via the thickness of the porous AAO cavity. In particular, the spectral response was deemed to exhibit a near-zero resonant dip, thereby achieving enhanced color saturation, which was stably maintained irrespective of the thickness of the porous Al film, due to its reduced effective refractive index. In order to manufacture the proposed color filters on a large scale, a porous Al film of hexagonal lattice configuration was integrated with an identically porous self-assembled AAO layer, which has been grown on an Al substrate. For the realized tri-color filters for cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY), having a 15-nm Al film, near-zero reflection dips were observed to be centered at the wavelengths of 436, 500, and 600 nm, respectively. The resulting enhanced color saturation was stably maintained even though the variations were as large as 10 nm in the metal thickness.</P>

        Effect of microstructures on the shrinkage of injection molding product

        Shrinkage of injection molding product is a well-known phenomenon which is determined by many factors such as material property, processing condition, mold design, and product design. This study aims to investigate the effect of microscopic structures on the shrinkage of macroscopic product. Flat specimens with and without microstructures were injection molded and the distribution of in-plane shrinkage was measured using an optical method. In the case without microstructures, anisotropic shrinkage is observed and the shrinkage magnitude increases with the distance from the gate. By applying the microstructures, the shrinkage could be reduced significantly, and the effect is especially noticeable when lower packing pressure was applied in the injection molding process. The numerical simulation result is also presented which suggests the importance of material data and lateral motion modeling for accurate prediction of the shrinkage.

        Gene Expression Profile of Helicobacter pylori in Response to Growth Temperature Variation

        A Helicobacter pylori whole-genome DNA microarray was constructed to study expression profiles of H. pylori in response to a sudden temperature transfer from 37°C to 20°C. The expression level of the genome at each of four time points (15, 30, 60, and 120 min) after temperature downshift was compared with that just before cold treatment. Globally, 10.2% (n=167) of the total predicted H. pylori genes (n=1636) represented on the microarray were significantly differentially expressed (p<0.05) over a 120 min period after shift to low temperature. The expression profiles of the differentially expressed genes were grouped, and their expression patterns were validated by quantitative real-time PCR. Up-regulated genes mainly included genes involved in energy metabolism and substance metabolism, cellular processes, protein fate, ribosomal protein genes, and hypothetical protein genes, which indicate the compensational responses of H. pylori to temperature downshift. Those genes play important roles in adaption to temperature downshift of H. pylori. Down-regulation of DNA metabolism genes and cell envelope genes and cellular processes genes may reflect damaged functions under low temperature, which is unfavorable to bacterial infection and propagation. Overall, this time-course study provides new insights into the primary response of H. pylori to a sudden temperature downshift, which allow the bacteria to survive and adapt to the new host environment.
