A method for simultaneous measurement of both complex permeability and permittivity is presented using a multilayered conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (MCBCPW) structure to evaluate the possibility of MCBCPW as a sensor for nondestructive electromagnetic measurement. Formulae and methods are developed to extract the electromagnetic parameters of material under test (MUT) placed on the topside of CPW. The measurement results for magnetic powder on MCBCPW sensor showed good agreement with those using coaxial sensors. The method allows both permittivity and permeability to be measured in a single-step measurement without modifying or reshaping the material, making this method particularly attractive for inhomogeneous materials such as biological materials.
Antenna system applicable to microwave non-invasive hyperthermia lipolysis

<P>Presented is an antenna system for microwave non-invasive hyperthermia lipolysis. The antenna system consists of a circular waveguide antenna radiating electromagnetic waves, an AlN (aluminium nitride) radome, and a heat sink. The AlN radome with the heatsink helps to extract heat from the skin so that the skin temperature does not rise during hyperthermia lipolysis. The antenna was designed to be operated with TE<SUB>21</SUB> mode to maintain uniform temperature over a wide area as much as possible in subcutaneous fat. The usability of the proposed system was verified by performing numerical simulation and rat hyperthermia lipolysis experiments.</P>

<P>In this article, we propose a new method to measure the complex relative permittivity (ϵ<SUB>r</SUB> = ϵ<EM><SUB>r</SUB><SUP>′</SUP></EM> − jϵ<EM><SUB>r</SUB><SUP>″</SUP></EM>) and permeability (μ<SUB>r</SUB> = μ<EM><SUB>r</SUB><SUP>′</SUP></EM> − jμ<EM><SUB>r</SUB><SUP>″</SUP></EM>) of liquid- or powder-type materials using a two-port probe which is constructed from coaxial transmission lines. The two-port probe is a simple structure that can be easily fabricated with low cost in comparison with conventional probes which are the type of the cavity and waveguide. And we have adopted the Cole–Cole equation and air-filled coaxial cable for calibrating the proposed probe. To verify the performance of the proposed probe, we measured the properties of materials in the form of liquids and powders and compared the results with those measured by the air-filled coaxial cable, which shows good agreement. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 노인 우울증 환자에서 Aripiprazole과 Bupropion 부가요법의 효과 및 안전성 비교 : 사후분석연구

Objectives:The purpose of this study was to compare aripiprazole versus bupropion augmentation therapy in older adult patients with major depressive disorder unresponsive to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs). Methods:This is a post-hoc analysis of a 6-week, randomized prospective open-label multi-center study in thirty older adult patients with major depressive disorder. Participants were randomized to receive aripiprazole(N=16, 2.5-10mg/day) or bupropion(N=14, 150-300mg/day) for 6 weeks. Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating scale(HAM-D17), Iowa Fatigue Scale, Drug-Induced Extrapyramidal Symptoms Scale, Psychotropic-Related Sexual Dysfunction Questionnaire scores, and Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) were obtained at baseline and after one, two, four, and six weeks. Changes on individual items of HAM-D17 were assessed as well as on composite scales(anxiety, insomnia and drive), and on four core subscales that capture core depression symptoms. Results:There was a significantly greater decrease in MADRS scores in aripiprazole group compared to bupropion group at 4(p<0.05) and 6(p<0.05) weeks. There were significantly higher response rate at week 4(p<0.05) and 6(p<0.05) and remission rate at week 6 in aripiprazole group compared to bupropion group. Individual HAM-D17 items showing significantly greater change with adjunctive aripiprazole than bupropion: insomnia, late(ES=0.81 vs. -0.24, p=0.043), psychomotor retardation(ES=1.30 vs. 0.66, p=0.024), general somatic symptoms(ES=1.24 vs. 0.00, p=0.01). On three composite scales, adjunctive aripiprazole was significantly more effective than bupropion with respect to mean change for drive(p=0.005). Conclusion:Results of this study suggested that aripiprazole augmentation have superior efficacy in treating general and core symptoms of depression in older adult patients. Aripiprazole augmentation is associated with greater improvement in specific symptoms of depression such as psychomotor retardation, general somatic symptoms and drive.

<P>We report V-band fully integrated planar beam-steering Amplitude-Shift-Keying (ASK) transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) system using advanced thin-film technology on a silicon (Si) mother board. BCB-on-Si System-on-Package (SOP) technology allows Rotman lens, patch antennas, and other passive elements to be integrated on a Si substrate together with active circuits. All MMIC chipsets are flip-chipped on a BCB substrate. Tx beam-steering is achieved by a combination of a SP3T switch and a Rotman lens terminated with the embedded resistors. The measured Tx antenna gain is 17.5 dBi and the effective isotropic radiated power is 26 dBm. The Tx module can steer the beam to three different directions of 0<SUP>°</SUP> and ±12<SUP>°</SUP> in the H-plane. A wireless link was successfully demonstrated at a data rate of 2 Gb/s with less than 10<SUP>-5</SUP> bit error rate.</P>

This paper reports on a fabrication of novel substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)-based shielded stripline applicable to the broadband transverse electromagnetic (TEM) single-mode propagation. We suggested a structure for half-SIW and half-shielded stripline, which combined through the benzocyclobutene (BCB) bonding layer. The electrical interconnection between the sidewall of anisotropic wet-etched silicon and patterned BCB layers is measured subsequent to the metalization on the side wall. The proposed SIW-based shielded stripline has great potential in terms of simple fabrication, integration with planar circuits and monolithic system fabricated on a SIW structure.

W-CDMA 단말기에 적용 가능한 balanced 전력증폭기의 load insensitivity 특성을 분석하였다. Balanced 전력증폭기 내부에 있는 두 평형(parallel) 증폭기의 부하 임피던스가 출력 부하 임피던스의 부정합(load impedance mismatch)에 따라 어떻게 변화하는지를 수식적으로 계산하였고, 이를 통해 선형성이 가장 취약한 반사 계수 위상을 조사하였다. 이 위상에서 balanced 전력증폭기는 출력단의 트랜지스터 면적을 적절히 증가시킬 경우 선형성이 개선될 수 있음을 제안하였고, 트랜지스터 면적이 서로 다른 복수개의 1단 balanced 전력증폭기를 설계하여 VSWR=4:1 반사 조건에서의 시뮬레이션을 통해 이를 검증하였다. The load-insensitivity of the balanced power amplifier(PA) for W-CDMA handset applications is analyzed. The load impedances of the two parallel amplifiers in the balanced PA depending on the output load mismatch are mathematically calculated and with the result, the phase of reflection coefficient at which the linear output power is severely degraded is investigated. From the analysis, we proposed that the linearity of the balanced PA at the phase can be improved by properly increasing the transistor size and thus, multiple balanced PA’s with different transistor size are designed and simulated. The simulation result showed that the balanced PA with larger transistor size has improved linear output power under VSWR=4:1.
