Incorporating Performance Degradation in Fault Tolerant Control System Design with Multiple Actuator Failures

Youmin Zhang,Jin Jiang,Didier Theilliol 대한전기학회 2008 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.6 No.3

A fault tolerant control system design technique has been proposed and analyzed for managing performance degradation in the presence of multiple faults in actuators. The method is based on a control structure with a model reference reconfigurable control design in an inner loop and command input adjustment in an outer loop. The reduced dynamic performance requirements in the presence of different actuator faults are accounted for through different performance reduced (degraded) reference models. The degraded steady-state performances are governed by the reduced levels of command input. The reconfigurable controller is designed on-line automatically in an explicit model reference control framework so that the dynamics of the closed-loop system follow that of the performance reduced reference model under each fault condition. The reduced command input level is determined to prevent potential actuator saturation. The proposed method has been evaluated and analyzed using an aircraft example against actuator faults subject to constraints on the magnitude and slew-rate of actuators.

      • MPC-based FTC with FDD against Actuator Faults of UAVs

        Bin Yu,Youmin Zhang,Yaohong Qu 제어로봇시스템학회 2015 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2015 No.10

The increasing development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the requirements of high autonomy and safety levels require that the controller of UAVs should possess fault-tolerant/reconfigurable function to accommodate unpredicted situations such as actuator faults, sensor faults, or aircraft damage. This paper addresses the partial loss of control effectiveness (LOE) of actuators in a quadrotor UAV using model predictive control (MPC) with terminal constraints, which allows to track a reference command even if in the presence of actuator faults. The proposed faulttolerant control system (FTCS) adopts MPC technique to design fault-tolerant controller and state-augmented Kalman filter (SAKF) to achieve fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) function. Simulation results based on a quadrotor UAV demonstrate that the proposed fault-tolerant controller has a good performance in accommodating actuator faults.

      • Active Fault Tolerant Control of an Unmanned Surface Vehicle

        Zhixiang Liu,Youmin Zhang,Chi Yuan 제어로봇시스템학회 2015 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2015 No.10

This paper presents an active fault tolerant control methodology with application to an unmanned surface vehicle (USV). Firstly, an augmented linear quadratic regulator (LQR) scheme is developed to guarantee the desired control performance and stability of USV in the absence of actuator faults. Secondly, an additional control mechanism incorporating a fault estimator and an adaptive fault compensator are synthesized to asymptotically stabilize the closedloop system in the event of actuator faults. Based on a nonlinear USV model, simulation results validated the effectiveness of the proposed control approach in either the absence or presence of actuator faults.

Fault-Tolerant Shortest Connection Topology Design for Formation Control

        Hao Yang,Bin Jiang,Youmin Zhang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2014 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.12 No.1

This paper studies the fault tolerant formation keeping problem of multi-agent systems with consideration of shortest connection topology. This is motivated by the requirement of low communi-cation cost which largely depends on the communication length. Given a formation shape, a connec-tion topology design method and its reconfiguration strategy are proposed in the sense that the whole connection path is shortest despite of communication faults. A control framework that combines the individual formation controller of each agent and connection topology is further presented. The stabil-ity of the whole system process is analyzed by switched system theories. Simulation results of un-manned aerial vehicles (UAVs) show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

The Positive Association between Subclinical Hypothyroidism and Newly-Diagnosed Hypertension Is More Explicit in Female Individuals Younger than 65

        Xichang Wang,Haoyu Wang,Li Yan,Lihui Yang,Yuanming Xue,Jing Yang,Yongli Yao,Xulei Tang,Nanwei Tong,Guixia Wang,Jinan Zhang,Youmin Wang,Jianming Ba,Bing Chen,Jianling Du,Lanjie He,Xiaoyang Lai,Yanbo Li 대한내분비학회 2021 Endocrinology and metabolism Vol.36 No.4

Background: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is the most common thyroid dysfunction, and its relationship with blood pressure(BP) has been controversial. The aim of the study was to analyze the association between SCH and newly-diagnosed hypertension. Methods: Based on data from the Thyroid disease, Iodine nutrition and Diabetes Epidemiology (TIDE) study, 49,433 euthyroid individuals and 7,719 SCH patients aged ≥18 years were enrolled. Patients with a history of hypertension or thyroid disease were excluded. SCH was determined by manufacturer reference range. Overall hypertension and stage 1 and 2 hypertension were diagnosedaccording to the guidelines issued by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association in 2017. Results: The prevalence of overall hypertension (48.7%), including stage 1 (28.9%) and 2 (19.8%) hypertension, increased significantly in SCH patients compared with euthyroid subjects. With elevated serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level, the hypertension prevalence also increased significantly from the euthyroid to different SCH subgroups, which was more profound in femalesor subjects aged <65 years. The age- and sex-specific regression analysis further demonstrated the same trends in the general population and in the 1:1 propensity matched population. Similarly, several BP components (i.e., systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial BP)were positively associated with TSH elevation, and regression analysis also confirmed that all BP components were closely relatedwith SCH in female subjects aged <65 years. Conclusion: The prevalence of hypertension increases for patients with SCH. SCH tends to be associated with hypertension and BPcomponents in females younger than 65 years.
