<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Kaempferol (3,4′,5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone, KAE) is one of the most commonly occurring dietary flavonols. The biological and pharmacological effects of kaempferol depend upon whether it acts as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, or anticancer agent. The present study explored the influence of KAE supplementation on <I>in vitro</I> damage to porcine oocytes and its underlying mechanisms. Different concentrations of KAE (0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1 μM) were added to porcine zygote medium 5 during <I>in vitro</I> culture. The results showed that supplementation with 0.1 μM KAE significantly increased the blastocyst formation rate. Blastocyst formation and quality were significantly increased in the 200 μM H2O2 treatment group following addition of 0.1 μM KAE. KAE prevented the H2O2-induced compromise of mitochondrial membrane potential and reactive oxygen species generation. Furthermore, the extent of autophagy and DNA damage in the blastocysts was attenuated by supplementation with KAE in the H2O2 induced oxidative injury group compared to that observed in controls. These results suggest that KAE has beneficial effects on the development of porcine parthenotes by attenuating oxidative stress and increasing mitochondrial function.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Kaempferol has beneficial effects on the development of porcine early stage embryos. </LI> <LI> Kaempferol prevented the H2O2-induced production of ROS. </LI> <LI> Kaempferol prevented mitochondrial dysfunction induced by H2O2 in porcine embryos. </LI> <LI> Kaempferol prevented H2O2-induced autophagy and DNA damage. </LI> </UL> </P>

This paper presents a useful and simple method to design the passive skimming system for homogeneous permanent magnets based on numerical optimization. To simulate the effects of manufacturing and assembling tolerances, the actual geometrical parameter of the magnet with a derivation is suggested. Then, the optimal design model oi a passive shim system is set up to correct the derivative of field homogeneity. The numbers, sizes and locations of the passive shims are optimized by the steepest descent algorithm combined with design sensitivity analysis. Two implementations show that the proposed method can achieve the required homogeneity of the field with the minimum quantity of ferromagnetics.

Objective: To investigate the effects of miR-106b on malignant characteristics of gastric cancer cells, and explore possible mechanisms. Methods: Expression of miR-106b, p21 and E2F was determined by real-time PCR. Transfection with miR-106b mimics was conducted, and gastric cancer cells with miR-106b overexpression were obtained. Cells transfected with mimic mutants and those without transfection served as negative and blank controls, respectively. Flow cytometry and transwell assays were adopted to detect the effects of miR-106b overexpression on cell cycle, migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells. Results:. The expression of miR- 106b in gastric cancer cells was significantly higher than that in normal gastric mucosa cells. Furthermore, the expression level of miR-106b rose according to the degree of malignacy among the three GC cell strains (MKN- 45 > SGC-7901 > MKN-28). Overexpression of miR-106b shortened the G0/G1 phase and accelerated cell cycle progression, while reducing p21 and E2F5, without any significant effects on the capacity for migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells. Conclusions: miR-106b may promote cell cycling of gastric cancer cells through regulation of p21 and E2F5 target gene expression.

The thermodynamic properties of small metallic superconducting grains are affected by fluctuations in the order parameter and the level statistics, especially in the critical region. Here, the static path approximation was applied to deal with the fluctuations and the thermodynamic contribution of quasiparticles, and random matrix theory was applied to deal with level statistics. The specific heats were calculated numerically in the cases of even and odd number of electrons and different spins.
Chemical Mechanical Planarization of Silicon Wafers at Natural pH for Green Manufacturing
Yong-Guang Wang,Yao Chen,Yong-Wu Zhao 한국정밀공학회 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.
In order to eliminate the disposal issues of toxic chemicals in chemical mechanical planarization, a water-based ultra-polishing experiment with alumina abrasives was investigated for silicon wafer based on Box-behnken theory. It was found that the material removal rate (MRR) was sensitive to pH value, more sensitive to the slurry flow rate, and most sensitive to the oxidizer concentration. Under the optimal conditions of oxidizer concentration (0.44%), slurry flow rate (71.86 mL/min), and natural pH (pH: 7), the highest MRR was derived. Finally, a confuse-understanding of pH on material removal was addressed as well. It was pointed out that the increase in pH leads to the initial decrease in MRR, followed by a rapid increase as pH exceeds 11.

Thermostability is an important property of xylanase because high temperature is required for its applications, such as wood pulp bleaching, baking, and animal feedstuff processing. In this study, XynB from Thermobacillus composti, a moderately thermophilic gram-negative bacterium, was modified via site-directed mutagenesis (based on its 3D structure) to obtain thermostable xylanase, and the properties of this enzyme were analyzed. Results revealed that the half-life of xylanase at 65°C increased from 10 to 50 min after a disulfide bridge was introduced between the α-helix and its adjacent β-sheet at S98 and N145. Further mutation at the side of A153E named XynB-CE in the C-terminal of this α-helix enhanced the half-life of xylanase for 60 min at 65°C. Therefore, the mutant may be utilized for industrial applications.

The sub-microspheres play multiple roles in enhancing dye adsorption and light-scattering toimprove the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In this work, the well-de¯ned TiO 2sub-microspheres with anatase granular-like nanocrystals are prepared in high yield by com-bining hydrolytic process with solvothermal treatment. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) andtransmission electron microscopy (TEM) results indicated that plenty of rhombic nanoparticleswith ? 18 nm diameter having mutual contacts to neighboring nanoparticles were densely self-assembled into sub-microspheres, and abundant mesopores existed in the whole sub-microsphereswith superior light scattering ability. The appropriate pore diameter and relatively high speci¯csurface area of the as-obtained sub-microsphere result in a higher dye adsorption. As expected, byusing the sub-microspheres as a scattering layer, a higher photovoltaic conversion e±ciency of10.15% is obtained for DSSCs.
