        Branching patterns of the aortic arch in the Siberian roe deer ( <i>Capreolus pygargus</i> Pallas, 1771)

        <P>This study examined the branching pattern of the aortic arch (AA) and its major branches in the Siberian roe deer (<I>Capreolus pygargus</I> Pallas, 1771) from South Korea. A total of eight of the nine expected types, based on the branching site and bilateral levels of the costocervical trunk (CCT) and subclavian artery (SB), were observed in the arterial silicone casts of 35 deer (16 males, 19 females). This deer has no typical type. The three most common types were present in 28.6, 25.7 and 20.0% of cases and resulted from different branching patterns of the left CCT and left SB. These results suggest that the Siberian roe deer in the Korean peninsula has various AA branching patterns, which differs from other ruminants.</P>

        The main purpose of the high quality meat production is continously secured the stead meat demand in our own country by the improvement of international competitive due to international competitive due to the production of high value-added meat products. And also, it can be expected that the high quality meat production can increase the income of breeders, which is caused by a meat price advance. However, flesh and meat, which are supplied by farmers, are not finished products but unfinished products. Therefore, it is important that the high quality meat production is absolutely depend on the sanitary treatment in slaughter stages. Also, the value of meat products is easily affected by partitioning and deboning of meat cuts. In circulation of meat products, it can be also affected by treatment condition, packing method and storage temperature management, and by display in a retail shop. Thus, the quality of flesh and meat, which is supplied as final products to consumers from farmers, can be affected by any failure through the whole process as aforementioned details, and this kind of failure has a influence on the rural household income as well as on the merchants' income. To protect the mutual benefit due to the aforementioned characteristics of flesh and meat, it need to be recognised the relationship of complementary cooperation, and th be held each other in check for improving and maintaining the meat quality.

        요소 착물형성에 의한 포화지방산 고함유 팜유 및 우지 유래 바이오디젤의 저온유동성 개선효과 연구

        Biodiesel is non-petroleum based fuel produced from vegetable oils or animal fats through transesterification. The compositions of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids in the feedstocks are important factors for biodiesel quality in terms of low-temperature fluidity and oxidative stability. The goal of this study is to improve the cold flow property of biodiesel from vegetable and animal origin containing highly saturated methyl esters (approx. 50%). In this purpose poly-saturated methyl esters in palm and tallow biodiesel were removed via urea-based fractionation and then the recovered fractions (enriched unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters) were supplemented with cold flow improvers. The highest concentration of unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters (93.8%) was obtained using a urea/fatty acid ratio of 3:1 at the crystallization temperature of 0?C for 17 hours in incubation, with recovery of 71% and the addition of cold flow improver (Flozol^{(R)} 515, 3,000 ppm) to the enriched poly-unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters reduced the CFPP(cold filter plugging point) of palm biodiesel from 12?C to -42?C. In tallow biodiesel both the enrichment of unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters (93.71%) and the addition of cold flow improver (Infineum R408, 3,000ppm) reduced the CFPP from 10?C to -32?C.

      • Alanine, glycine, proline의 급여가 계육의 이화학적 성질에 미치는 영향

        비필수 아미노산 alanine, glycine, proline 등을 첨가한 사료의 급여가 broiler의 이화학적 성질에 미치는 영향을 구명함으로서 아미노산 급여기술의 실용화에 기초 자료를 제시코져 아미노산의 급여수준에 따라 대조구는 아미노산 0%, A구는 alanine 0.5%를, B구는 glycine 0.5%를, C구는 proline 0.5% 를, AB구는 alanine 0.25% 와 glycine 0.25%를, AC구는 alanine 0.25% 와 proline 0.25%를, BC구는 glycine 0.25%와 proline 0.25%를, ABC구는 alanine 0.17%, glycine 0.17%, proline 0.17% 등 8개의 실험구를 배치하여 수행한 실험의 결과는 다음과 같다. 흉심근의 pH는 AB구가 높았으며, 흉심근과 대퇴근의 pH는 저장기간이 경과하는 동안 모든 실험구가 유의적으로 증가하였고, 아미노산의 급여로 인한 pH의 변화는 보이지 않았다. 그러나 대퇴근의 pH가 대체로 높아 저장8일에 7.00을 넘는 처리구가 많았다. 수분함량은 휴심근과 대퇴근에서 AB와 ABC구가 높게 나타났고, 이는 pH의 수준에 의한 영향으로 사료된다. 수용성 염용성 단백질의 추출성은 대조구와 처리구간에 두렷한 차이가 나타나지 않았고, pH의 영향으로 생각되는 차이는 나타났으며, 대체로 저장기간의 경과에 따라서 감소하는 경향이었다. 비필수 아미노산의 급여로 인한 계육의 이화학적 성질의 변화를 규명하기 위해서는 앞으로 계속된 많은 연구가 필요하며, 이에 대한 영향이 완전히 규명되어야 실용화가 가능하고, 육의 이화학적 성질은 육의 가치와 이용성을 정의하는 작업이므로 계육의 가공기술을 발전시키는 기초자료로 이용할 수 있으리라 사료된다. This study was conducted to investigate the physio-chemical properties of chicken which was fed with single or mixed amino acids - alanine, glycine and proline. Raw chicken samples were prepared with one of eight treatments : Control : no amino acids ; A : 0.5% alanine added on basal diet ; B : 0.5% glycine added on basal diet ; C : 0.5% proline added on basal diet ; AB: 0.25% alanine and 0.25% glycine added on basal diet ; AC : 0.25% alanine and 0.25% proline added on basal diet ; BC : 0.25% glycine and 0.25% proline added on basal diet ; ABC : 0.17% alanine, 0.17% glycine and 0.17% proline added on basal diet. The physio-chemical properties were analyzed during the storage periods of 1, 4 and 8 days at 4±1℃. pH of breast was higher in AB treatment among the treatments, and pH of breast and leg were respectively increased in the all treatments as the storage period was passed. There was no significant changes in pH with amino acid supply. However, pH of leg was generally higher, for instance, the most of treatments showed the pH values more than 7.0 on the 8th day of storage. For the water content, breast and leg in AB treatment and ABC treatment showed respectively higher values, and in may caused by the different pH values. There was no significant difference in the extraction of water and salt soluble protein between the treatments and the control, even thought there was slight difference caused by the different pH values. In general, the extraction or water and salt soluble protein was reduced according to the increment of storage period. The effect of non-essential amino acids supply on the changes of physio-chemical characteristics of chicken meats should be carried our in near future, and it may useful for chicken meat processing technology.

        Antimicrobial Activities of Novel Mannosyl Lipids Isolated from the Biocontrol Fungus <i>Simplicillium lamellicola</i> BCP against Phytopathogenic Bacteria

        <P>The antagonistic fungus <I>Simplicillium lamellicola</I> BCP has been developed as a microbial biopesticide that effectively controls the development of various plant diseases caused by both pathogenic bacteria and pathogenic fungi. Antibacterial bioassay-directed fractionation was used to isolate mannosyl lipids from <I>S. lamellicola</I> BCP, and the structures of these compounds were elucidated using spectral analysis and chemical degradation. Three novel mannosyl lipids were characterized and identified as halymecins F and G and (3<I>R</I>,5<I>R</I>)-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-mannosyl-3,5-dihydrodecanoic acid. Massoia lactone and (3<I>R</I>, 5<I>R</I>)-3-hydroxydecan-5-olide were also isolated from <I>S. lamellicola</I> BCP. The three novel compounds inhibited the growth of the majority of phytopathogenic bacteria that were tested, and halymecin F displayed the strongest antibacterial activity. <I>Agrobacterium tumefaciens</I> was the most sensitive to the three novel compounds, with IC<SUB>50</SUB> values ranging from 1.58 to 24.8 μg/mL. The ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation broth from the antagonistic fungus effectively reduced the bacterial wilt caused by <I>Ralstonia solanacearum</I> on tomato seedlings.         가공 및 외식식품 중 면류 및 제빵류의 레티놀 및 베타카로틴 함량 조사

        The contents of β-carotene and retinol in processed and restaurant foods, such as Korean noodles, mandus, rice cakes and bread products, were quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV/visible and fluorescence detector, respectively. Samples were collected from different local areas (i.e. Gangwon-do, Gyeonggido, Gyeongsang-do, Seoul, Jeolla-do, and Chungcheong-do). After homogenization, samples were hydrolyzed by direct alkali saponification; thereafter, fat-soluble components were extracted by a mixture of n-hexane/ethylacetate (85:15, v/v), containing 0.01% butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). β-carotene and retinol contents in infant formula used as an in-house material for the analytical quality control. Among 14 Korean noodles, high contents of β-carotene were found in Bibim-Guksu (average 442.43 μg/100 g) and Jjolmyeon (average 301.39 μg/100 g). In 4 Korean mandus, the highest contents of β-carotene was determined in Kimchi-mandu (average 197.64 μg/100 g), resulting in 33.3 RE of the converted vitamin A. Among 12 Korean rice cakes, Maeun-Tteokbokki and Modm-Chaltteok contained relatively high content of β-carotene with 205.11 and 41.33 μg/100 g, respectively, while retinol was detected only in Maeun- Tteokbokki (1.65~10.45 μg/100 g). In addition, among 8 bread products, 77.3 RE of pastry, 51.2 RE of buttercream- bread, and 41.4 RE of morning roll were found as the contents of the converted vitamin A.

        Mechanical stimulation is known to play a vital role on the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to pre-osteoblasts. In this research, we developed a tensile cell stimulator, composed of a DC motordriven actuator and LVDT sensor for measuring linear displacement, to study the effects of tensile stress on osteogenic differentiation of MSCs. First, we demonstrated the reliability of this device by showing the uniform strain field in the silicon substrate. Secondly, we investigated the effects of tensile stretching on osteogenic differentiation. We imposed a pre-set cyclic strain at a fixed frequency on cell monolayer cultured on a flexible silicon substrate while varying its amplitude and duration. 60 min of resting period was allowed between 30 min of cyclic stretching and this cycle is repeated up to 7 days. Under the combined stimulation with osteogenic media and mechanical stretching, the osteogenic markers such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osterix, and osteopontin began to get expressed as early as 4 days of stimulation, which is much shorter than what is typically required for osteogenic media induced differentiation. Moreover, different markers were induced at different magnitudes of the applied strains. Lastly, for the case of ALP, we observed the antagonistic effects of osteogenic media when combined with mechanical stretching.
