The Effect of Workplace Violence on Depressive Symptoms and the Mediating Role of Psychological Capital in Chinese Township General Practitioners and Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Study

        Chi Tong,Chunying Cui,Yifei Li,Lie Wang 대한신경정신의학회 2019 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.16 No.12

Objective The most existing research has predominantly focused on city rather than township hospitals. This study aimed to explore depressive symptoms and its associated factors among general practitioners and nurses in Chinese township hospitals. Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out in Liaoning, China in 2016. 2,000 general practitioners and nurses in Chinese township hospitals were recruited and 1,736 of them became final subjects (effective response rate: 86.8%). Data on depressive symptoms, workplace violence (WPV), psychological capital (PsyCap), and demographic factors were collected through questionnaires. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to explore the factors related to depressive symptoms. Asymptotic and resampling strategies were applied to examine the potential mediating effect of PsyCap. Results The prevalence of depressive symptoms among the participants was 49.9%. Workplace violence was positively associated with depressive symptoms, whereas psychological capital and its components of hope, optimism and resilience were negatively associated with depressive symptoms. Psychological capital and its components of hope, optimism and resilience all played partial mediating roles between workplace violence and depressive symptoms. Conclusion Nearly half of general practitioners and nurses surveyed suffered from depressive symptoms. Reduction of workplace violence and development of psychological capital can be targeted for interventions to combat depressive symptoms.

Manufacturing Principle and Meshing Limit Line of Toroidal Surface Enveloping Cylindrical Worm Drive with Arc-Toothed Worm

        Xinyue Zhu,Yaping Zhao,Yifei Chi,Gongfa Li,Xinyuan Chen 한국정밀공학회 2022 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.23 No.3

The main purpose of this article is to determine the processing parameters of the worm and establish the theory of the meshing limit line of toroidal surface enveloping cylindrical worm drive with the arc-toothed worm. Based on this condition that the instantaneous contact line is a planar curve during grinding the worm blank, it can be deduced that its torsion is equal to zero, then the formulae which determine the installing position of the grinding wheel are acquired. Following this, the equations of the tooth surfaces and the meshing limit function are all obtained. According to the geometric construction and elimination method, the meshing limit points are determined by iteratively solving the corresponding nonlinear equation in its solution domain. In addition, the result of the numerical case demonstrates that the worm helicoid is divided into two parts by the meshing limit line, which makes the working length of the worm cannot reach half of its total thread length. And by adjusting the design parameters of the worm pair and the processing parameters of the worm, the meshing limit line cannot be eliminated and its position on the surfaces of the worm and the worm gear has no notable change.

Xanthoceraside Induces Apoptosis in Melanoma Cells Through the Activation of Caspases and the Suppression of the IGF-1R/Raf/MEK/ERK Signaling Pathway

        Qing Jiao,Libo Zou,Peng Liu,Qian Xu,Yifei Zhang,Ying Yu,Lu Zou,Tianyan Chi,Xuefei Ji 한국식품영양과학회 2014 Journal of medicinal food Vol.17 No.10

Xanthoceraside, a saponin extracted from the husks of Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge, suppresses inflammation and oxidative stress. However, the antitumor properties of xanthoceraside as well as its mechanism of action remain unclear. Therefore, we proposed to investigate its potential anticancer property. In this study, the viability of cells was measured by the MTT assay. Cell cycle and mitochondrial membrane potential were measured by flow cytometry, and the expressions of procaspase-9, procaspase-3, Cyto.c, Apaf-1, Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, Bad, p53, and IGF-1R/Raf/MEK/ERK were tested by Western blotting. Xanthoceraside significantly inhibited the proliferation of human melanoma A375.S2 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner but did not impair the viability of normal cells (peripheral blood mononuclear cells). Further analysis revealed that xanthoceraside induced apoptosis by activating caspase-3 and caspase-9 in a time-dependent manner through the mitochondrial pathway but did not activate caspase-8 in the cells. In addition, xanthoceraside inhibited the expression of the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), which is an important prosurvival, antiapoptotic signaling growth factor receptor that is frequently overexpressed in cancer cells and used as a therapeutic target for multiple cancers. Interestingly, xanthoceraside also decreased the expression of Raf, p-MEK, and p-ERK, the downstream effectors of IGF-1R. Taken together, these findings indicate that xanthoceraside induces apoptosis through a mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathway, which is induced by the downregulation of IGF-1R/Raf/MEK/ERK cascades in A375.S2 cells.
