Vol.4 No.1

The survey of water quality and saprobiotic phytoplankton distribution was carried out in 4 reservoirs in eastern area of Kangwon Province at September 1991. Temperature, pH, total-N, total-P, chl.a, and standing crop of phytoplankton were measured for water quality examination. Total numbers of phytoplankton identified were 58 spp, consisted of 10 spp Cyanophyta, 1 spp Chrysophyta, 2 spp Dinophyta, 1 spp Crytophyta, and 37 spp Chlorophyta. The dominant species of phytoplankton in each reservoir was different as follows: Microsystis aeruginosa in Jukhean, Peridinium cunningtonii var. contactum in Bukdong, Staurastrum simonyi var. simonyi in Dalbang, and Chlamydomonas umbonata in Chodang. Estimated from the data of water quality and phytoplankton distribution, the reservoirs of Jukheon, Bukdong and Chodang were β-mesosaprobic whereas Dalbang was oligosaprobic.

      • A new Record of Pammene gallicolana Lienig & Zeller (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae, Olethreutinae) from Korea

Vol.2009 No.05

The genus pammene Hübner, [1825] is one of the genera related to Grapholita Treitschke, 1829, belonging to the tribe Grapholitini of the subfamily Olethreutinae (Bae & Park, 1998). The genus is mostly distributed in the Holarctic region, with about 100 species in the world. Danilevsky & Kuznetzov (1968) divided the genus into the two subgenera, Pammene and Eucelis. Komai (1999) discussed the phylogenetic position within the tribe. Since Park (1983) reported one species of the genus for the first time from Korea, they are mainly studied by Byun & Park (1993), Byun et al. (1998) and Bae & Park (1998). Up to date nine species have been reported from the Korea by Bae and park (1998). In this study, Pammene gallicolana Lienig & Zeller, 1846 is report for the first time from Korea. This species resembles with Pammene ignorata superficially, but P. gallicolana is easily distinguished from the latter by following characters: dorsal patch much larger, basal cavity much bigger, and apophysis posterior longer than P. ignorata, respectively. Morphological characters of this species are redescribed with illustrations of genitalia.

      • Diversity of Tortricid Moths (Lepidoptera) in Taiwan, With Historical Review

Vol.2008 No.05

Taxonomic studies of Taiwan moths have been done by only a few Taiwanese and foreign entomologists. The earliest significant collections and studies of Taiwan Lepidoptera began in 1856 with the arrival of Robert Swinhoe (1836-1877) as British Consul in Taiwan. The Japanese Occupation (Sino-Japanese War of 1895-1945) enabled studies by mainly Japanese scientists, and post- 1945 many Japanese and some others scientists visited Taiwan to study and collect moths and butterflies. In 1992, Heppner and Inoue (eds.) reported over 3,900 species in the checklist of "Lepidoptera of Taiwan" for the first time, based on the materials from 62 collecting sites and previous records. Recently, the Lepidoptera series of guide books to Insects in Taiwan was published by Mr. H.Y. Wang. Also the 2nd author has a publication plan of a total of 10 volumes in the series of "Lepidoptera of Taiwan", and a color introduction due out this year. In this study, we identified over 3,000 specimens of the subfamily Olethreutinae belonging to the family Tortricidae, collected at 62 sites in Taiwan from 1982 to 2006 by the 2nd author and some of collection’s of Y.S. Bae and K. T. Park in 1996-1999. We recognize the results of identification that more than 280 Taiwan tortricids, including over 35 newly recorded or new species, are in the Taiwan fauna.

Vol.2010 No.10

This study was conducted to investigate the change of moth communities by the effect of forest fire in Samcheok, Korea. Moths were collected 4 times a year from 2006 to 2009 with UV light traps at 3sites: Unburned area (Site 1), Surface fire area (Site 2), and Crown fire area (Site 3). A total of 3,804 individuals belonging to 727 species from 30 families were captured at the 3 sites. A total of 3,804 individuals belonging to 727 species from 30 families were captured at the 3 sites: 1,727 individuals of 505 species (27 families) at Site 1, 1,193 individuals of 353 species (24 families) at Site 2, 885 individuals of 340 species (25 families). The index of similarity (Index α) was higher between Site 2 and 3 in 2006, while higher between Site 1 and 2 in 2009. Moths were grouped into 16 categories by hosts of the larva stage. Based on our results, we discussed the change of moth communities by the effect of forest fire.

      • Taxonomic Notes of Moths (Lepidoptera) in the North Vietnam

        Yang-Seop Bae,Le Xuan Vi,Kyu-Tek Park,Nguyen Nhu Cuong,Pham Van Nha,Pham Thi Vuong,Jong-Gyun Park 한국응용곤충학회 2009 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2009 No.05

In Vietnam, the moths were reported by some foreign entomologist such as de Joannis (1900), Ronkay (1989), Speidel & Kononenko (1998), Park et al. (2006), and Lien et al. (2008). In 1928 -1929 de Joannis created the original data of moths. His final reports on Lepidoptera were 45 families, 611 species of Noctuidae, and 461 species of Pyralidae. After the Vietnam War in North (1954), many times were collected in North Vietnam by National Institute of Plant Protection (NIPP). But all of them focused on fauna of the agricultural pests. According to the publication of NIPP (1967-1968), 533 species of 37 families of which there were 91 species of Noctuidae in the North Vietnam and some other moths known as the insect pests have been reported. In 1977 there were 77 species of Pyralidae known as the insect pests in the North Vietnam. The purpose of this study is to assess diversity of Lepidoptera order and to clarify the fauna in the Northern part of Vietnam, base on the Korea Vietnam collaborative insect-research project (2004-2006). The collecting have been conducted in four National Parks (Tam Dao, Cuc Phuong, Ba Be, and Bach Ma) Given results of the survey in the North of Vietnam from 2002 to 2006, 816 species of Lepidoptera classified by 4 families; Noctuidae (564 species), Pyraloidae (201 species), Sphingidae (28 species), and Lecithoceridae (23 species). Many of the identified species of macro-moths including Noctuidae, Pyraloidae and Lecithoceridae are known as the very newest one in Vietnam.
