        Coprecipitation synthesis, structure and photoluminescence properties of Eu<sup>3+</sup>-doped sodium barium borate

        Micro-sized phosphors of Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>-doped NaBaBO<SUB>3</SUB> (0.5-12mol%) were prepared by the modified co-precipitation synthesis. The samples were characterized by scanning electron micrograph (SEM) images and electron dispersive X-ray (EDX). The polycrystalline samples are well developed to the regular plate-like particles with the uniform morphology. The single crystal-phase NaBaBO<SUB>3</SUB> of the Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>-doped sample was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurements and the structure refinement. The optical properties are evaluated by photoluminescence (PL) excitation and emission spectra, and decay curves. The absolute luminescence quantum efficiency (QE) and the activation energy (ΔE) are reported. Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>-doped NaBaBO<SUB>3</SUB> presents a bright red-emitting color under the excitation of near-UV light around 400nm. The maximum absolute QE of NaBaBO<SUB>3</SUB>:Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> is estimated to be 53% at 300K. The phosphor shows an excellent thermal stability on temperature quenching effects. The results were discussed on the relationship between the structure and the luminescence properties.

        Association analyses of East Asian individuals and trans-ancestry analyses with European individuals reveal new loci associated with cholesterol and triglyceride levels

        <P>Large-scale meta-analyses of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified > 175 loci associated with fasting cholesterol levels, including total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides (TG). With differences in linkage disequilibrium (LD) structure and allele frequencies between ancestry groups, studies in additional large samples may detect new associations. We conducted staged GWAS meta-analyses in up to 69,414 East Asian individuals from 24 studies with participants from Japan, the Philippines, Korea, China, Singapore, and Taiwan. These meta-analyses identified (P < 5 x 10(-8)) three novel loci associated with HDL-C near CD163-APOBEC1 (P = 7.4 x 10(-9)), NCOA2 (P = 1.6 x 10(-8)), and NID2-PTGDR (P = 4.2 x 10(-8)), and one novel locus associated with TG near WDR11-FGFR2 (P = 2.7 x 10(-10)). Conditional analyses identified a second signal near CD163-APOBEC1. We then combined results from the East Asian meta-analysis with association results from up to 187,365 European individuals from the Global Lipids Genetics Consortium in a trans-ancestry meta-analysis. This analysis identified (log(10)Bayes Factor a 6.1) eight additional novel lipid loci. Among the twelve total loci identified, the index variants at eight loci have demonstrated at least nominal significance with other metabolic traits in prior studies, and two loci exhibited coincident eQTLs (P < 1 x 10(-5)) in subcutaneous adipose tissue for BPTF and PDGFC. Taken together, these analyses identified multiple novel lipid loci, providing new potential therapeutic targets.</P>

        EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF EGR COOLER REGENERATION AIDED BY OXYGEN-FED NTP AND AIR-FED NTP

        Based on non-thermal plasma (NTP) technology fed by oxygen and air as the gas source respectively, the experimental system of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler regeneration was built to do a study at different regeneration temperatures. By measuring the concentration of main active substance and COx in regeneration process, the influence of temperature on regeneration aided by oxygen-fed NTP and air-fed NTP was investigated. The experimental results indicate that EGR cooler can be regenerated both by air-fed NTP and oxygen-fed NTP at a wide temperature range of 18 oC ~ 300 oC. By comparison of the regeneration with oxygen-fed NTP and air-fed NTP, it can be easily known that the regeneration effect is most remarkable at 150 oC with oxygen-fed NTP and at 120 oC with air-fed NTP. In addition, when the temperature is below 150 oC especially at 120 oC, the regeneration efficiency of air-fed NTP is lower than oxygen-fed NTP, nevertheless, when the temperature is above 150 oC, air-fed NTP has a superiority in regeneration and the higher the temperature is, the more obvious the superiority will be.

        Use of negative capacitance to simulate the electrical characteristics in double-gate ferroelectric field-effect transistors

        The surface potential and drain current of double-gate metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor (MFIS) field-effect transistor were investigated by using the ferroelectric negative capacitance. The derived results demonstrated that the up-converted semiconductor surface potential and low subthreshold swing S = 34 (<60 mV/dec) can be realized with appropriate thicknesses of ferroelectric thin film and insulator layer at room temperature. What’s more, a reduction gate voltage about 260 mV can be reached if the ON-state current is fixed to 600 mA/mm. It is expected that the derived results can offer useful guidelines for the application of low power dissipation in ongoing scaling of FETs.

        MEACHANISM AND METHOD OF DPF REGENERATION BY OXYGEN RADICAL GENERATED BY NTP TECHNOLOGY

        By using a self-designed non-thermal plasma (NTP) injection system, an experimental study of theregeneration of DPF was conducted at different temperatures, where oxygen as the gas source. The results revealed that PMcan be decomposed to generate CO and CO2 by these active substances O3, O which was generated through the dischargereaction of NTP reactor. With the increasing of test temperature, the mass of C1 (C in CO) shows a overall downward trendwhile the mass of C2 (C in CO2) and C12 (C1 and C2) increase firstly and then decrease. When the test temperature is 80oC, thebackpressure of DPF decreases fastest and the regenerative effect is remarkable. DPF can be regenerated by NTP technologywithout any catalyst at a lower temperature. Compared with the traditional regeneration method, the NTP technology has itssuperiority.

        EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON REGENERATING FOULED EGR COOLER BY NTPI TECHNOLOGY

        In order to investigate the regeneration effect of non-thermal plasma injection (NTPI) technology on fouled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler, NTPI regeneration apparatus and EGR cooler performance test system were built up. Results showed that non-thermal plasma (NTP) could peel off the deposit layer and improve the heat exchange performance effectively. The carbon removal energy efficiency of this NTPI regeneration setup was 22.46 g/kWh and the O3 utilization ratio was 96.50%. To get a deeper understanding of the regeneration effect, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were introduced to investigate the variation of deposit layer’s physical and chemical characteristics before and after regeneration. Results showed that the content of soluble organic fraction (SOF) in deposit specimen decreased obviously, mainly because the carbonyls were effectively removed by NTP. Moreover, soot in deposit specimen was successfully activated by NTP.

      • Applications of conservation integral to indentation with a rigid punch

        When a substrate of the brittle material is indented by a relatively rigid, square-ended punch, a singular stress field and K-dominant region will arise at the near-surface adjacent to the punch corners. The singularity of this stress field is identical with the mode I crack. The stress intensity factor in this case represents the intensification of the stress fields induced by indentation. In present article, a new method to determine the stress intensity factors of the indentation problems is developed based on the conservation law. The physical meanings of the proposed method and some numerical analysis have been investigated.

        Preparation and thermoelectric properties of AgPb18SbTe20−xSex (x = 1, 2, 4) materials

        AgPb18SbTe20xSex (x ¼ 1, 2, 4) bulk materials were prepared by combining hydrothermal synthesis and melting. Thermoelectric properties were measured from room temperature up to 773K. The materials showed n-type conduction and exhibited degenerate semiconductor behavior. The power factors of the materials varied greatly with increase of Se content (x). Partial substitution of Se for Te in AgPb18SbTe20resulted in remarkable reduction of thermal conductivity in the whole temperature range and increase of power factor at lower temperatures; therefore, the dimensionless figure of merit, ZT, was enhanced below 600K. A maximum ZT value of w0.82 is obtained at 523K for the AgPb18SbTe18Se2 sample.

        Effect of night light regimen on growth performance, antioxidant status and health of broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age

        Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of night light regimen on growth performance, antioxidant status and health of Lingnan Yellow broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age. Methods: A completely randomized factorial design involved 2 photoperiods (constant lighting [CL], 24 L:0 D and intermittent lighting [INL], 17 L:3 D:1 L:3 D)×2 light intensities (10 lx and 30 lx). A total of one thousand six hundred and eighty 1-d-old Lingnan Yellow broiler chicks were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 6 replicates (70 birds per replicate). The experiment lasted for 21 d. Results: Photoperiods and light intensities had no effect on average daily gain, feed conversion ratio, and mortality of the broiler chickens (p>0.05). The INL had a significant effect on average daily feed intake (p<0.05) of broiler chickens compared with CL. Photoperiod and light intensity had an interactive effect on melatonin (MT) concentration (p<0.05). At CL, reducing light intensity increased MT concentration; INL birds had higher MT but MT concentration was not affected by light intensity. There was an interactive effect on glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) in serum and total antioxidant capability (T-AOC) in liver between photoperiod and light intensity. With the decrease of light intensity, the activities of GPx and CAT in serum and T-AOC in liver increased in CL group (p<0.05). Broiler chickens reared under INL had better antioxidant status and 10 lx treatments had higher activities of CAT in serum than 30 lx (p<0.05). Different photoperiods and light intensities had no effect on malondialdehyde. There was an interaction between photoperiod and light intensity on serum creatine kinase (CK) concentration (p<0.05). At CL, the elevated light intensity resulted in an increase in CK content; INL birds had lower CK concentration especially in low light intensity group. Besides, INL and low light intensity significantly reduced the concentration of serum corticosterone and heat shock protein 70 (p<0.05). Serum immunoglobulin M contents were increased in broiler chickens reared under the INL compared with CL group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Results above suggest that the night light regimen of INL and 10 lx could be beneficial to the broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age due to the better health status and electricity savings.
