ORBITAL-PHASE-DEPENDENT γ-RAY EMISSIONS FROM THE BLACK WIDOW PULSAR

        Wu, E. M. H.,Takata, J.,Cheng, K. S.,Huang, R. H. H.,Hui, C. Y.,Kong, A. K. H.,Tam, P. H. T.,Wu, J. H. K. IOP Publishing 2012 The Astrophysical journal Vol.761 No.2

We report on evidence for orbital phase dependence of the gamma-ray emission from the PSR B1957+20 black widow system using data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope. We divide an orbital cycle into two regions: one containing the inferior conjunction and the other containing the rest of the orbital cycle. We show that the observed spectra for the different orbital regions are fitted by different functional forms. The spectrum of the orbital region containing the inferior conjunction can be described by a power law with an exponential cutoff (PLE) model, which also gives the best-fit model for the orbital phase without the inferior conjunction, plus an extra component above similar to 2.7 GeV. The emission above 3 GeV in this region is detected with a similar to 7 sigma confidence level. The gamma-ray data above similar to 2.7 GeV are observed to be modulated at the orbital period at the similar to 2.3 sigma level. We anticipate that the PLE component dominant below similar to 2.7 GeV originates from the pulsar magnetosphere. We also show that inverse Compton scattering of the thermal radiation of the companion star off a 'cold' ultrarelativistic pulsar wind can explain the extra component above similar to 2.7 GeV. The black widow pulsar PSR B1957+20 may be a member of a new class of object, in the sense that the system is showing gamma-ray emission with both magnetospheric and pulsar wind origins.

      • SEARCH FOR PULSED γ-RAY EMISSION FROM GLOBULAR CLUSTER M28

        Wu, J. H. K.,Hui, C. Y.,Wu, E. M. H.,Kong, A. K. H.,Huang, R. H. H.,Tam, P. H. T.,Takata, J.,Cheng, K. S. IOP Publishing 2013 ASTROPHYSICAL JOURNAL LETTERS - Vol.765 No.2

Using the data from the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, we have searched for gamma-ray pulsations from the direction of the globular cluster M28 (NGC 6626). We report the discovery of a signal with a frequency consistent with that of the energetic millisecond pulsar (MSP) PSR B1821-24 in M28. A weighted H-test test statistic of 28.8 is attained, which corresponds to a chance probability of similar to 10(-5) (4.3 sigma detection). With a phase-resolved analysis, the pulsed component is found to contribute similar to 25% of the total observed gamma-ray emission from the cluster. However, the unpulsed level provides a constraint for the underlying MSP population and the fundamental plane relations for the scenario of inverse Compton scattering. Follow-up timing observations in radio/X-ray are encouraged to further investigate this periodic signal candidate.

Coupled stochastic gradient identification algorithms for multivariate output-error systems using the auxiliary model

        Wu Huang,Feng Ding,Tasawar Hayat,Ahmed Alsaedi 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.4

This paper considers the gradient based identification problem of a multivariate output-error system. By using the auxiliary model identification idea and the coupling identification concept, an auxiliary model basedstochastic gradient (AM-SG) algorithm and a coupled AM-SG algorithm are presented. The results indicate that theparameter estimation errors converge to zero under the persistent excitation conditions. The simulation examplesconfirm the theoretical results.

Identification of odorant binding protein and chemosensory protein genes in Protegira songi (Lepidoptera Noctuidae) via transcriptome analysis

        Huang Xingrui,Yang Jie,Zou Jie,Wen Xi,Wu Tao,Tian Xiangrong,Luo Jiahao,Niu Yahui,Huang Xinglong 한국응용곤충학회 2024 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.27 No.2

The larvae of Protegira songi Chen & Zhang are notorious defoliator specifically infesting the medicinal plant Eucommia ulmoides Oliver. In insects, Odorant binding proteins (OBPs) and chemosensory proteins (CSPs) are highly expressed in olfactory organs and play essential roles in perceiving female pheromone and host volatiles by binding and transporting odorant compounds. In this study, 17 OBPs and 16 CSPs were identified from P. songi by transcriptome analysis. Sequence alignment indicated that PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs share no identity with each other in protein sequence. The overall structures of PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs are mainly constructed by α-helix bundles and loops. But the distribution of conserved cysteine residues and arrangement of α-helix are varied between PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs. Putative ligand binding cavities were found in these predicted protein structures. Expression profiles of PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs in adults and larvae were determined by RT-PCR which showed that 16 PsonOBPs and 11 PsonCSPs were expressed in adult antennae or/and larval head. PsonGOBPs, PsonPBPs, PsonOBP5, PsonOBP7, and PsonCSP6 were preferentially expressed in olfactory associ ated tissues. Our results suggest that the PsonOBPs and PsonCSPs that contain ligand cavity and are highly enriched in olfactory tissues may play roles in chemosensory perception of P. songi, and the transcriptome data may facilitate the studies on the olfactory mechanism of P. songi specifically choosing E. ulmoides as host.

The association between acupuncture therapy and the risk of reduced pressure ulcers in dementia patients: a retrospective matched cohort study

        Huang Chia-Yu,Wu Mei-Yao,Huang Ming-Cheng,Yu Teng-Shun,Yen Hung-Rong 한국한의학연구원 2023 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.12 No.3

Background: The pressure ulcer is a complication from dementia. The aim of this study is to study the association between the developing of pressure ulcers and the use of acupuncture therapy in patients with dementia. Methods: We performed a retrospective 1:1 propensity score-matched cohort study to investigate the association between acupuncture therapy and the risk of pressure ulcers in patients with dementia. Results: A total of 8,994 patients were identified, 237 patients in the acupuncture cohort and 362 patients in the no-acupuncture cohort developed pressure ulcers. A reduced cumulative incidence of pressure ulcers was observed in the acupuncture cohort (P < .001). The association between acupuncture and reducing the incidence of pressure ulcers was not affected by sex, age, residence, income, or comorbidities. The variables of etiologies to cause dementia did not change the final result. In the subgroups analyses, the patients without medication for dementia controlling had significant lower rate of pressure ulcers development when they had accepted acupuncture therapy (log-rank test, P <.001). Conclusion: Our results revealed the association between acupuncture therapy and a reduced incidence of pressure ulcer development in patients with dementia. This finding offers important ideas for further research.

Transcriptional Profiling of the Trichoderma reesei Recombinant Strain HJ48 by RNA-Seq

Huang, Jun,Wu, Renzhi,Chen, Dong,Wang, Qingyan,Huang, Ribo The Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnol 2016 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.26 No.7

The ethanol production of Trichoderma reesei was improved by genome shuffling in our previous work. Using RNA-Seq, the transcriptomes of T. reesei wild-type CICC40360 and recombinant strain HJ48 were compared under fermentation conditions. Based on this analysis, we defined a set of T. reesei genes involved in ethanol production. Further expression analysis identified a series of glycolysis enzymes, which are upregulated in the recombinant strain HJ48 under fermentation conditions. The differentially expressed genes were further validated by qPCR. The present study will be helpful for future studies on ethanol fermentation as well as the roles of the involved genes. This research reveals several major differences in metabolic pathways between recombinant strain HJ48 and wild-type CICC40360, which relates to the higher ethanol production on the former, and their further research could promote the development of techniques for increasing ethanol production.

      • Clinical Application of Endoscopic Inguinal Lymph Node Resection after Lipolysis and Liposuction for Vulvar Cancer

        Wu, Qiang,Zhao, Yi-Bing,Sun, Zhi-Hua,Ni, Jing,Wu, Yu-Zhong,Shao, Heng-Hua,Qu, Jun-Wei,Huang, Xin-En Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Aim: To examine lymph nodes obtained after lipolysis and liposuction of subcutaneous fat of the inguinal region of female vulvar cancer patients to explore the feasibility of clinical application. Methods: The field of operation was on the basis of the range of the conventional resection of inguinal lymph nodes. We injected lipolysis liquid fanwise, started liposuction after 15-20 minutes; then the subcutaneous fatty tissue was sucked out clearly by suction tube. We selected the first puncture holes located on 2-3 cm part below anterior superior spine, the others respectively being located 3cm and 6cm below the first for puncturing into the skin, imbedding a trocar to intorduce $CO_2$ gas and the specular body, and excise the lymph nodes by ultrasonic scalpel. The surgical field chamber was set with negative pressure drainage and was pressured with a soft saline bag after surgery. Results: A lacuna emerged from subcutaneous of the inguinal region after lipolysis and liposuction, with a wide fascia easily exposed at the bottom where lymph nodes could be readily excised. The number of lymph nodes of ten patients excised within the inguinal region on each side was 4-18. The excised average number of lymph nodes was 11 when we had mature technology. Conclusion: Most of adipose tissue was removed after lipolysis and liposuction of subcutaneous tissue of inguinal region, so that the included lymph nodes were exposed and easy to excise by endoscope. This surgery avoided the large incision of regular surgery of inguinal region, the results indicating that this approach is feasible and safe for used as an alternative technology.

      • Association of RASSF1A Promoter Methylation with Lung Cancer Risk: a Meta-analysis

Huang, Ying-Ze,Wu, Wei,Wu, Kun,Xu, Xiao-Ning,Tang, Wen-Ru Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

RASSF1A, regarded as a candidate tumor suppressor, is frequently silenced and inactivated by methylation of its promoter region in many human tumors. However, the association between RASSF1A promoter methylation and lung cancer risk remains unclear. To provide a more reliable estimate we conducted a meta-analysis of cohort studies to evaluate the potential role of RASSF1A promoter methylation in lung carcinogenesis. Relevant studies were identified by searches of PubMed, Web of Science, ProQest and Medline databases using the following key words: 'lung cancer or lung neoplasm or lung carcinoma', 'RASSF1A methylation' or 'RASSF1A hypermethylation'. According to the selection standard, 15 articles were identified and analysised by STATA 12.0 software. Combined odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to assess the strength of the association between RASSF1A promoter methylation and lung cancer risk. A chi-square-based Q test and sensitivity analyses were performed to test between-study heterogeneity and the contributions of single studies to the final results, respectively. Funnel plots were carried out to evaluate publication bias. Overall, a significant relationship between RASSF1A promoter methylation and lung cancer risk (OR, 16.12; 95%CI, 11.40-22.81; p<0.001) with no between-study heterogeneity. In subgroup analyses, increased risk of RASSF1A methylation in cases than controls was found for the NSCLC group (OR, 13.66, 95%CI, 9.529-19.57) and in the SCLC group (OR, 314.85, 95%CI, 48.93-2026.2).

Adaptive Priority-Based Downlink Scheduling for WiMAX Networks

Wu, Shih-Jung,Huang, Shih-Yi,Huang, Kuo-Feng The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2012 Journal of communications and networks Vol.14 No.6

Supporting quality of service (QoS) guarantees for diverse multimedia services are the primary concerns for WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) networks. A scheduling scheme that satisfies QoS requirements has become more important for wireless communications. We propose a downlink scheduling scheme called adaptive priority-based downlink scheduling (APDS) for providing QoS guarantees in IEEE 802.16 networks. APDS comprises two major components: Priority assignment and resource allocation. Different service-type connections primarily depend on their QoS requirements to adjust priority assignments and dispatch bandwidth resources dynamically. We consider both starvation avoidance and resource management. Simulation results show that our APDS methodology outperforms the representative scheduling approaches in QoS satisfaction and maintains fairness in starvation prevention.
