Background Inflammasomes are key in the initiation of inflammatory responses and serve to defend the organism. However, when the immune system is imbalanced, these complexes contribute to tumor progression. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of non-canonical inflammasomes on glioma malignancy. Methods We performed bioinformatics analysis to confirm the expression of canonical and non-canonical inflammasome-related molecules according to the degree of malignancy through immunohistochemical examination of glioma tissues obtained with patient consent from our institution. Results Bioinformatics analysis confirmed that the expression levels of non-canonical inflammasome- related molecules were significantly higher in tumor tissues than in normal tissues, and they also increased according to malignancy, which adversely affected the survival rate. Furthermore, in gliomas, positive correlations were found between N-form gasdermin-D, a key molecule associated with the non-canonical inflammasome, and other related molecules, including NLRP3, caspase-1, caspase- 4, and caspase-5. These results were verified by immunohistochemical examination of glioma tissues, and the expression levels of these molecules also increased significantly with increasing grade. In addition, the features of pyroptosis were confirmed. Conclusion This study identified the potential of non-canonical inflammasomes as aggressiveness markers for gliomas and presented a perspective for improving glioma treatment.
Comparative study of integral abutment bridge structural analysis methods

<P> The primary goal is to accurately predict long-term integral abutment bridge (IAB) responses under thermal loads by applying available numerical modeling techniques developed on the basis of a long-term monitoring of in-service IABs. Considered methodologies are: (1) free expansion; (2) empirical approximate; (3) two-dimensional (2D) static analysis; (4) 2D time-history; (5) three-dimensional (3D) static analysis; and (6) 3D time-history. Specific IAB responses evaluated for the comparison are: girder axial force and moment, pile shear, moment, and displacement. The results indicate that the substructure responses predicted by all six analyses are reasonably comparable. However, the superstructure responses predicted by a 2D analysis are significantly different than predictions by a 3D analysis. Both 2D and 3D static analysis predictions tended to form boundaries for 2D and 3D time-history analysis. Therefore, this study concludes that a 3D time-history analysis is preferred for long-term, superstructure response predictions; all 2D and 3D static and time-history analyses are acceptable for substructure response predictions. </P>

Recently, actuator systems have been widely used in electronic control systems in automobiles. In eco-friendly automobiles, actuator systems are also being applied to major drive systems. Accordingly, the reducer used in the actuator system is also increasingly demanding for vibration, noise and performance. In this study, vibration factors of a planetary gear reducer in a vehicle drive system were selected and their influence was compared. Among various vibration factors, the possibility of application in the future mass production process was selected as an important point. First, we selected the gear grade. The gear class 1 and class 4 were compared. Second, the weight of the reducer was selected. The weight of the carrier among the reducer parts was made different.
제강슬래그를 모재로 한 중금속 및 비소 오염토양 처리 소재 개발

우리나라 농경지 중에는 전국적으로 분포하고 있는 폐금속 광산의 영향으로 중금속 성분으로 오염된 곳이 많이 존재한다. 오염된 농경지에 대해서는 주로 객/복토방식에 안정화공법(stabilization method)을 병용하여 복원작업을 진행하고 있는데, 이때 적용되고 있는 안정화제로는 중금속 성분으로 오염된 경우에는 석회석, 비소 단독이나 비소와 중금속이 복합 오염된 경우에는 제강슬래그를 사용하고 있다. 특히 철강생산 시 산업부산물로서 발생되는 제강슬래그는 칼슘(Ca) 성분뿐만 아니라 다양한 양이온의 금속성분(Fe, Al, Mn 등)들이 함유되어 있어 비소처리에 효과적인 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 제강슬래그의 경우에는 산업부산물인 관계로 함유된 성분들의 함량이 일정하지 못하고 원료상태의 재료를 단순히 파쇄만 해서 현장에 안정화제로 적용되고 있어 그 처리효율이 일정하게 유지되고 있지 못한 문제점들이 보고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해서 제강슬래그를 모재로 활용하고 그 유효성분들의 최적함량을 조정할 수 있는 공정을 개발하기 위한 기초실험을 수행하였다. 이 실험의 결과는 중금속-비소 복합오염 토양의 복원 시에 적용할 수 있는 무해화 소재(안정화재) 개발에 적용될 수 있으며, 실제 적용 시에는 품질을 일정하게 유지시켜주고 그에 따라 효과도 제고될 것으로 기대된다. 따라서 복원작업의 신뢰성이 확보되어 안전한 농산물 생산에 기여하고 축적된 기술들은 향후 관련분야 사업에서 제품화하는데 경제성을 확보하는데 필수적인 요소기술일 것으로 판단되었다.
